Like the end of a slo-mo music montage on the beach, “Baywatch” reboot has found a home: Fox has closed on a script+penalty deal for a new version of the long-running surf-sand-and-saviors series from Fremantle.
Fox and Fremantle have tapped Lara Olsen (“Spinning Out”) to serve as showrunner for the new “Baywatch,” which was originally created by Michael Berk, Douglas Schwartz and Gregory J. Bonann. Starring David Hasselhoff, “Baywatch” originally ran from 1989 to 1999 and then was retooled as “Baywatch: Hawaii” from 1999 to 2001.
Olsen, Berk, Bonann and Schwartz will serve as exec producers on the one-hour drama, which comes from both Fremantle and Fox Entertainment. Here’s the new logline: “Daring ocean rescues, pristine beaches, and iconic red bathing suits are back, along with a whole new generation of Baywatch lifeguards, who navigate complicated, messy personal lives in this action-packed reboot that demonstrates there’s the family you’re born...

Ah, the 1990s. Perhaps the peak of the moviegoing experience. Theaters consistently showed classics such as the special effects marvel "Jurassic Park," "The Shawshank Redemption," "Terminator 2: Judgment Day," "Pulp Fiction," "Fargo," and "Titanic." The decade also featured an abundance of outstanding horror films like "The Sixth Sense," "Scream," "Misery," and "Interview with the Vampire," all boasting big-name stars and top-tier directors.
However, playing at the opposite end of the cineplex were thrillers you may have never heard about or skipped simply due to bad reviews or scathing word of mouth. Some of Hollywood's top talent attached themselves to such projects, thwarted by ornery critics or moviegoers seeking higher-end entertainment. That's a shame.
While there are undoubtedly plenty of terrible horror films from the 90s, the decade was also ripe with lower-tier entries that have aged surprisingly well. Many don't reset the bar established by esteemed pictures like "The Silence of the Lambs,...

Death is the ultimate leveler. It comes for everyone in the end, no matter your station in life. Never is that more unsettlingly apparent than in 1988’s The Blob, directed by Chuck Russell from a script he co-wrote with Frank Darabont. The creature feature lets loose a gelatinous pink blob of goo upon the small town of Arborville, California, where it wreaks havoc with its insatiable appetite. It doesn’t care about archetypical hero or villain roles; its sole aim is to devour.
The eponymous Blob acts as a giant slithering stomach, dissolving its food for digestion with extreme acidity. That means that not only is the body count high for this ever-growing creature, but the deaths are deliciously mean-spirited and unforgettable thanks to gruesome special makeup effects from Tony Gardner and an incredible team of artists. Russell and Darabont reinforce the SFX showcase with unpredictability and meticulous characterization to...

A remake of the 1958 sci-fi horror classic, the ’88 version of The Blob was directed by Chuck Russell from a screenplay he wrote with Frank Darabont. The Tales from the Crypt TV series was coming to an end in 1996 with the last season airing from April–July. After seven successful years, the Crypt Keeper was saying goodbye to TV and hello to Hollywood. Things got off to a good start in 1995 with Demon Knight, the first of a proposed Tales from the Crypt trilogy.
This was soon followed by Bordello of Blood. The film centres on a private investigator who, after looking into a missing person’s case, discovers that the local funeral parlour is also a brothel populated with vampire prostitutes. The Pi teams up with the missing person’s sister and a charismatic reverend to take on the vampires and their beautiful and deadly leader, Lilith.
The film was released in theatres 25 years ago on 16th August, 1996. However, the film had a difficult and turbulent production that meant it didn’t quite have the same bite as its predecessor.

Stating what happened to Erika Eleniak isn’t too hard, but going over the course of her career one might be reminded that at one time she was actually pretty popular and there are reasons why. She had a part in E.T. the Extraterrestrial since she was the girl in class that Elliott kissed during the movie, and eventually, she went on to star in The Blob six years later. She also starred in Under Siege with Steven Seagal and was also in Playboy at one time. As you can guess she was also in Baywatch and she did star in

Gregory Bonann was a lifeguard at Will Rogers State Beach in 1977 when he helped two children who were caught in a riptide. That rescue would ultimately change his life – and the face of television, setting the stage for the eventual “Baywatch” juggernaut.
Now, with the new feature adaptation of “Baywatch” in theaters this weekend, it’s time to revisit the unusual story of how the lifeguard show made it on the air – ultimately producing 242 episodes before ending its run in 2001.
It all started because it turns out Bonnan had saved the children of Stu Erwin, an executive at Mtm – the independent production company behind series like “The Mary Tyler Moore Show” and “The Bob Newhart Show,” and run by legendary exec Grant Tinker.
While visiting Mtm’s offices in Studio City, Bonann pitched Erwin on a drama about lifeguards. The company passed, but Bonann took the opportunity to learn all about the TV biz.

Other alum including Jason Simmons, 47, and Angelica Bridge, 46, also joined the fun. The Og group even got to meet newcomers Zac Efron and Kelly Rohrbach who star in the upcoming film. We already know that Dwayne Johnson and Zac Efron are set to star in a big-screen version of Baywatch, the iconic television show that immortalized David Hasselhof and an army of good-looking lifeguards wearing well-fitting swimsuits while running in slow motion on a California beach. But who will snare the female lead for the movie, to be directed by Seth Gordon (Horrible Bosses)? The original TV show featured women in prominent roles, including Pamela Anderson, Erika Eleniak, Yasmine Bleeth, and Alexandra Paul. Since Efron was added this past August, several names have already been floated: Kelly Brook, Kate Upton, and Charlotte McKinney. The plot is said to revolve around a by-the-book lifeguard (Johnson) who is teamed with a "rule-flouting hothead" (Efron) to save...

Next Tuesday, Scream Factory will offer horror fans several new options for Halloween movie marathons when The Larry Fessenden Collection and the Tales From the Crypt films Demon Knight and Bordello of Blood come out on respective Blu-rays. Ahead of their impending release date, we have clips and trailers from all three Blu-rays to give you a look at what's to come.
Demon Knight (Collector's Edition Blu-ray): "A mysterious drifter known as Brayker (William Sadler, Iron Man 3) possesses the last of seven ancient keys that hold the power to stop the forces of darkness and protect all humanity from ultimate evil. But the human race is safe only so long as Brayker can evade the demonic Collector (Billy Zane, Titanic) who has gathered the other six keys.
In his obsessive quest for the key, the Collector rallies an army of ghastly cadavers against Brayker and the inhabitants of a run-down hotel.

The cat (crypt keeper?) was let out of the bag (coffin?) earlier today over a leak on the internet that caught us by surprise and hence the out-of-the-blue announce today. Originally, we had planned to reveal these two highly-requested titles sometime next week. smile emoticon We hope...

In 1988 off-duty cop John McClane took on international thief and terrorist Hans Gruber and his cold hearted gang at the fictional Nakatomi Plaza (actually the Fox Plaza in Los Angeles). With their own version of dirty dancing Bruce Willis and Alan Rickman gave an entirely new definition to the term, ‘mano-a-mano’ and audiences loved it. The formula of one guy on his own against overwhelming odds spawned four sequels and while none have been as good as the first, box office receipts for each of these still show an impressive profit. In a town where nothing breeds imitation faster than success, Hollywood took notice of this “trend” and began churning out as many “rip-offs” as they could reasonably do with out anyone calling foul.
And while none of these action movie rip offs have the charm factor of Bruce Willis and no one says, “Yippee kai yay, mother******,” they have...

Once upon a time (read: the '80s), movie fans could count on the fact that at some point, someone in the movie would randomly drop trou or rip off their shirt for no apparent reason whatsoever. And frankly, it was great. After all, why worry about things like plot or character development when you can have some good old-fashioned gratuitous nudity instead?
Nowadays, of course, such moments are rare, usually happening only for comic relief or in grade-z, video on demand dreck. Thanks to Internet porn, there's kind of no reason for movies to bother, right?
Once in a while, though, there's still a shining light — or shining headlights, if you will — such as Rosario Dawson's turn in the new Danny Boyle thriller "Trance," which already has people buzzing and whipping out their iPhones to grab a quick screenshot. So with that in mind, we...

Yippee ki yay meal farmers! Welcome to the latest instalment of the Film Junk Premium Podcast! This time around we're digging into one of the most beloved action franchises in cinema history; the Die Hard series. While we mostly agree the first three films are pretty solid -- if not classic -- we still manage to find lots to disagree on. Some highlights include a discussion about the logistics of calling an airplane from a landline, John McClane's penchant for eyeliner, and Hans Gruber's amazing Eurotrash tie. Meanwhile, things get a little tense as Sean attempts to defend Len Wiseman's widely despised entry in the series. Is McClane just old and grumpy or has Bruce Willis lost the spirit of the original character? How do you get 2 gallons of water into a 3 gallon jug? Holly Gennero...hot or not? As a bonus, we also talk about the Die Hard...

There are many things that make Steven Spielberg's 'E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial' -- thirty years old this year -- a magical masterpiece: a sensitive script, fantastic special effects (it's often easy to forget the title star is a mechanical puppet), John Williams' uplifting score. But one of the most over-looked aspects is the cast.
Eschewing big name stars and established child actors, Spielberg discovered a raft of talent, young and old, that do much to make 'E.T.' such an emotional experience. Here are their 'E.T.' stories and what happened next....
E.T. is 30 years old - hard to believe, but true
Henry Thomas (Elliott Taylor)
That was then: "I used to think 'If I mess this up, what's going to happen?'" recalls Henry Thomas about his days as the lead in 'E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial'. "'Are they going fire me? I'm nine years old.

Apparently Lifetime is planning a new made-for-tv movie about the life of Playmate and model Anna Nicole Smith and TMZ has obtained the call sheet for the various roles and descriptions.
In figuring out our dream casting, Zap2it is treating this movie like the serious cinematic masterpiece it is bound to be -- when in reality, the cast will probably consist of Erika Eleniak and Eric Roberts in old-age makeup. But we say shoot for the stars, Lifetime.
Anna Nicole Smith: A pretty, but plain girl growing up in small town Texas who transformed herself though sheer willpower into a model and Playmate. Might we suggest Lindsay Lohan. Sure, she's no Oscar-winner, but it's just too perfect, right?
Howard K. Stern: A "lawyer-guy-friend-weirdo" whose law firm is going under, so he devotes his entire focus to representing Anna Nicole. We like Michael Imperioli for this one, mostly...

Jenny McCarthy is 39 and fine! The sexy mother of one's Playboy cover debuted this morning -- showing her in the buff almost 20 years after her first appearance in the magazine. This is Jenny's fourth pictorial for the mag: she first appeared in it back in 1993 and was named Playmate of the Year in 1994 (left). While it may be a racy spread for a mom, Jenny says she's "really proud of it.""The pictures are really gorgeous and classy. They could be out of W magazine," she tells People. They're really elegant. It's probably a lot more sophisticated than a lot of the stuff you'd see of people with their clothes on." There's no denying McCarthy looks great on the cover -- but how have some of the other Playboy models from the '90s held up over time? Thirty is a tricky birthday for anyone - your twenties are in the rear-view mirror, and your forties start to sneak up (can you tell this writer is getting closer to the magic 3-0?...). But it's also the point at which you can reach a certain respectability, start to push towards (whisper it) adulthood, and make it clear that you're here to stay. All of which is a long-winded and possibly over-sharing way of saying that thirty years ago today, on June 11, 1982, "E.T: The Extra Terrestrial" was released in theaters.
Despite Steven Spielberg's track record, it wasn't necessarily expected to be a major blockbuster -- one major studio had already turned it down. But a major blockbuster is exactly what it turned out to be -- it was the biggest of all time, in fact, holding the worldwide position until "Jurassic Park" in 1993, and the domestic crown until...

Donna Douglas, who played Elly May Clampett on "The Beverly Hillbillies," has settled her lawsuit over a Barbie doll that uses Elly May's name and likeness. The actress sued CBS and toymaker Mattel back in May, claiming the company was "engaging in the unauthorized use of [her] name, likeness, image and attributes" as Elly May for the doll, which was released a year ago.
The lawsuit sought at least $75,000. It has been settled out of court, but details of the amount of the settle are being kept confidential, reports the AP.
The comedy, about the black gold-findin' Clampett family that moved to Beverly Hills, ran on CBS for nine seasons, with Douglas playing Elly May in all seasons. She claimed CBS and Mattel needed her approval for the doll, but the network and toymaker claimed they didn't need her approval because CBS holds the exclusive rights to the character.

Peter Tolan has turned in a new Baywatch script to Paramount Apparently, Rescue Me creator Tolan has a new draft of the Baywatch script, but, according to ComingSoon.net (via JoBlo and Matthew Aaron Show), his version hasn't got anything to do with the famed David Hasselhoff starrer. We also learnt that roles were written for both Hasselhof and Pamela Anderson, but that they aren't playing the same characters they did in the series. Baywatch ran from 1989-2001 and included Jeremy Jackson, Michael Newman, Chris Fiore, Alexandra Paul, Daivd Chokachi, Gregory Alan Williams, Yasmin Bleeth, Erika Eleniak, Nicole Eggert among many others. First the "Happy Days" cast, now Elly May Clampett. We fully expect next to hear about a Dobie Gillis lawsuit.
Donna Douglas, who played Elly may Clampett on the 1960s television sitcom "The Beverly Hillbillies," is suing Mattell over the "Elly May Barbie" that was released back in December. She claims the company is "engaging in the unauthorized use of [her] name, likeness, image and attributes" as Elly May, reports CNN.
The suit alleges a photo of Douglas in character is used on the packaging and the promotional blurbs mention the TV show. A spokesman for Mattel says they "licensed the rights to 'Beverly Hilbillies' for this product through the appropriate channels."
Douglas is seeking damages of $75,000 and is demanding a jury trial. The lawsuit also alleges Douglas continues to make appearances in connection with the Elly May character.

This year Riedel finally took the leap into becoming a feature film director himself, and after a great festival run his film Target Practice hits DVD this week. This past weekend at the Hilton Universal City, hundreds of stars gathered to meet and greet fans, and reunite with old friends at the HollywoodXpo. For Trekkies the highlight of the event was the Star Trek: Of Gods and Men Internet series cast reunion. Personally, we preferred a few other star spottings—The Brady Bunch's Susan Olsen, Bewitched's Erin Murphy, Happy Days' Erin Moran, and Lost in Space's June Lockhart and Mark Goddard.
We asked some of the celebrities why they come to these kinds of events. Replies ranged from selfless charitable giving to a deep respect for their fans to a simple need to earn some cash.
We asked Susan Olsen, who played Cindy (the youngest one in curls) on The Brady Bunch, why she likes to do these kind of shows and she joked, "I actually don't. I really don't like these things.
