Spoilers for "Strange Darling" follow.
Jt Mollner's "Strange Darling" lives up to its title as dolled-up sleaze (the make-up being 35mm film). Half-erotic thriller and half slasher, it's a 21st century "Texas Chain Saw Massacre" structured like "Pulp Fiction." The film plays with you by taking a cut-and-dry premise and experimenting with how far it can twist. The result, which never breaks, is one of 2024's best horror films. (Read /Film's "Strange Darling" review here.)
What will keep you especially glued to the screen is Willa Fitzgerald's performance as "The Lady," a bleeding and terrified woman seemingly in need of help. Fitzgerald (who has been acting since 2008) has earned fans for her parts in the MTV "Scream" series and "Reacher" season 1 as Roscoe Conklin. She was also in Mike Flanagan's "The Fall of the House of the Usher," where she played the young Madeline Usher. Even in that series' huge ensemble,...

When you think about adrenaline-pumping movies, action, and adventure films are the first that come to mind.
But there is no doubt you can get an adrenaline rush from thrillers, horror, and even some high-stakes drama films as well.

When your heart beats faster out of fear because the monster is just behind the door, when you cheer with excitement after an epic fight scene, or when you sit on the edge of your seat waiting to see if the heroes can really outrun the bad guy, it makes for a thrilling movie experience.
Here are some of what I think are the best adrenaline-pumping movies and franchises of all time.

The long-gestating reboot of the popular sci-fi franchise Battlestar Galactica, from Sam Esmail’s Esmail Corp., is no longer set up at Peacock.
First announced as being in development at the NBCUniversal streamer in 2019, the new incarnation of Battlestar Galactica never got to a green light but remained in development, including a writer change within the past year as The Sinner creator Derek Simonds came on board as writer, executive producer and showrunner.
That version of the project from Simonds will now be shopped to other platforms by its studio, Peacock’s NBCUniversal sibling UCP.
A new take on the classic IP, the latest incarnation is executive produced by Simonds as well as Esmail Corp’s Sam Esmail and Chad Hamilton. UCP, a division of Universal Studio Group, is the studio.
Battlestar Galactica has been a passion project for Mr. Robot creator Esmail who is a big fan of the original.

“Battlestar Galactica” will not chronicle its next chapter on Peacock. A planned reboot for the classic sci-fi hit is no longer in development at the streamer, an insider close to the decision-making told TheWrap.
The project had been in development since 2019, helmed by Sam Esmail (“Mr. Robot”). It was never officially picked up to series at Peacock, and though no plot details were revealed, the show was set to be set in the same timeline as the popular 2003 series.
The news comes months after “The Sinner” EP Derek Simonds was tapped to be writer, executive producer and showrunner. The reboot will now be shopped around to other outlets by its production company, UCP, with whom Esmail has an overall deal. The project was in development with UCP, Esmail Corp and Chad Hamilton.
“Battlestar Galactica” was first introduced in the ’70s as a single-season show starring Richard Hatch, Dirk Benedict and Lorne Greene.

What would Battlestar Galactica look like if it were launched today?
That was the question posted to Ronald D. Moore, the uber-producer who returned to his native habitat on Thursday — San Diego Comic-Con — to discuss his life’s work with former muse Mary McDonnell.
McDonnell, who played President Laura Roslin on the sci-fi series, wondered if Moore’s 2004 reimagining of the 1978 Battlestar Galactica series would look and sound any different today given the state of politics and our culture.
“I mean, the story itself would probably be different because I wrote it at a specific moment in our lives and in our history,” said Moore. “I was approached to do the project just a months after the 9/11 attacks. When Mike Flanagan first spoke to Carla Gugino about his latest Netflix production, The Fall of the House of Usher, he didn’t yet know what it would be beyond something inspired by the work of Edgar Allan Poe. “It was going to be something around a family and elements of Succession,” recalls Gugino. Having worked with Flanagan on several horror projects (Gerald’s Game, The Haunting of Hill House, The Haunting of Bly Manor and Midnight Mass), Gugino was confident that the writer-director would find the perfect thematic material for our present moment. “It’s extremely appropriate, destroying yourself by not opening yourself up to actually seeing your effect on the world,” says the actress of the Sackler family-inspired narrative, which turns the Ushers of Poe’s 1840 short story into an elite clan who earned their riches from the opioid crisis. “His humanistic take on the genre,” Gugino says of Flanagan,...

“He sent me all the episodes and I sat here for two days and said ‘this has got to be some of the most brilliant writing I’ve ever participated in,’” declares two-time Oscar and Emmy nominee Mary McDonnell about when she first read Mike Flanagan‘s scripts for his latest horror series “The Fall of the House of Usher.” For our recent webchat she adds, “for me, it was this confluence of elements that allowed us to believe every single second of this story, no matter where it went, and no matter what rules it broke, or even what rules it adheres to in terms of horror. I believed it!” Watch our exclusive video interview above.

“Here I am playing this ethereal non-human being in ‘Usher,’ and my biggest task was to saddle her with a humanity,” declares Carla Gugino about portraying a mysterious angel of death in Mike Flanagan‘s latest horror limited series “The Fall of the House of Usher.” For our recent webchat she adds, “It was cool to juxtapose between this raven perched on a branch watching humanity and all of their foibles, and also because I was able to play these seven different incarnations of this character, each one of those incarnations really needed to be fully human.” Watch our exclusive video interview above.

For young siblings Roderick (Zach Gilford) and Madeline Usher (Willa Fitzgerald), what they thought was a toast to success was also a toast to their own demise.
Mike Flanagan’s The Fall of the House of Usher combines Edgar Allan Poe’s most famous poems and short stories into a haunting exploration of privilege and greed. After spending decades building a successful pharmaceutical company, Roderick (Bruce Greenwood) and Madeline (Mary McDonnell) are now forced to confront the skeletons in their closet, as each of their heirs die in brutal and mysterious ways. For the 15th anniversary of the "Battlestar Galactica" finale, I spoke with several of the show's writers and actors for an inside look at how it reached that conclusion. One of them was David Eick, the series' co-creator (with Ronald D. Moore). I asked the man who resurrected "Galactica" out of its campy 1970s roots why attempts to keep the franchise going faltered.
You see, "Battlestar" hadn't even been finished a year when a prequel spin-off debuted: "Caprica," an ensemble drama set more than 50 years before the series on the eponymous planet (one of the 12 colonies razed by the robotic Cylons at the outset of "Battlestar Galactica"). The series debuted in January 2010 and wrapped that November after a single, 19-episode first season -- its planned multi-year run aborted by low ratings.
Next, Eick and co. pivoted with "Battlestar Galactica: Blood and Chrome," a second prequel (but after "Caprica") set during the first human/Cylon war.

It could be fifth time lucky for Annette Bening as she heads to this year’s Oscars with yet another nomination – this time for Best Actress for her role in Nyad.
Bening has on four previous occasions left the ceremony empty-handed, but she remembers fondly her first Oscars in 1991, when she was nominated for Best Supporting Actress for The Grifters.
The actress told The Times of London that all the women in her category – Whoopi Goldberg, Diane Ladd, Mary McDonnell and Lorraine Bracco – got together prior to the presentation and cut a deal.
Bening recounted:
“We got together in a little huddle and we said, ‘All right, let’s all have dinner next week and whoever wins pays.’ And so Whoopi Goldberg won [for Ghost] and she sent us each a flower arrangement and a card that said, ‘Meet at such and such a restaurant next week at a certain time.

Like many of Taylor Sheridan’s shows, the cast of his flagship creation Yellowstone is a major part of its draw. The cast is an intriguing mix of absolute icons, seasoned veterans, character actors, international artists and, at the time, up-and-comers. While their notoriety has certainly evolved to the point where they are inseparable from Yellowstone, this amazing group of performers has an equally amazing body of work behind them.
While these may not be the roles the cast are known for, or even remembered for, there are several stops along the way to the fictional Montana that are worth mentioning. With Yellowstone currently on hiatus, now is the perfect time to revisit these films and shows, and see how well rounded the cast truly is.

Sunday’s Critics Choice Awards pretty much stuck to the same script as last week’s Golden Globes, with Netflix’s Beef, Hulu’s The Bear and HBO’s Succession emerging as the big TV winners.
Both Beef and The Bear won four trophies apiece, including Best Limited Series and Best Comedy Series, respectively. Succession, meanwhile, snagged three awards, including Best Drama Series.
