Timothée Chalamet had a dream run at the box office, with his last two films Wonka and Dune: Part Two earning huge numbers globally. The actor has become one of the biggest stars in Hollywood right now and has a slate of high-profile projects in the pipeline. His next project is the James Mangold-directed Bob Dylan biopic, A Complete Unknown.
Chalamet has reportedly decided to use his own singing voice in the biopic instead of lip-syncing to Dylan’s songs. The actor had also flexed his vocal cords in last year’s musical comedy Wonka. A statement from director Paul King about Chalamet’s singing talents might be the reason why Mangold was sure of the Call Me By Your Name star playing Bob Dylan.

The clip sees Barbaro and Chalamet surrounding a microphone while strumming their guitars before he starts playing the harmonica. Director James Mangold previously revealed that Chalamet would do his own singing in the Dylan-approved film.

If Criterion24/7 hasn’t completely colonized your attention every time you open the Channel––this is to say: if you’re stronger than me––their May lineup may be of interest. First and foremost I’m happy to see a Michael Roemer triple-feature: his superlative Nothing But a Man, arriving in a Criterion Edition, and the recently rediscovered The Plot Against Harry and Vengeance is Mine, three distinct features that suggest a long-lost voice of American movies. Meanwhile, Nobuhiko Obayashi’s Antiwar Trilogy four by Sara Driver, and a wide collection from Ayoka Chenzira fill out the auteurist sets.
Series-wise, a highlight of 1999 goes beyond the well-established canon with films like Trick and Bye Bye Africa, while of course including Sofia Coppola, Michael Mann, Scorsese, and Claire Denis. The upcoming Star Wars: The Acolyte is all set to take us back to the days of the High Republic. The Disney+ show, set 100 years before the events of the Prequel Trilogy, was expected to excite the fans to explore an uncharted territory in the franchise so far. Sadly, the fans don’t seem so eager for it, especially after the release of the latest looks from the show.
Star Wars: The Acolyte
The Star Wars fandom is famous for being one of the most divided and brutal fanbases. It can be seen in the response to the Sequel Trilogy, which started strong but ended on an unsatisfying note with Rise of the Skywalker. Although some shows like The Mandalorian and Andor were praised, it looks like the fans are again disappointed with the upcoming The Acolyte series.

Ever since it was first reported that Hugh Jackman would reprise his iconic Wolverine role in the upcoming Deadpool 3 movie, fans have been giddy with anticipation. But what has really caused a stir in the fandom is the possibility of the actor donning Wolverine’s iconic costume once again.
Yes, Jackman, 55, will eventually put on his yellow and blue X-Men outfit in the upcoming Shawn Levyflick-helmed flick, having made his screen debut as Logan in X-Men (2000). But for many years, the actor’s gritty portrayal of Wolverine in films, including James Mangold’s Logan (2017), served as the character’s gold standard.

Andor was such an unexpected, soaring success that we're surprised more of the team behind the series hasn't been snapped up quickly to work on other projects at Lucasfilm. Well, now one of them has – Beau Willimon, who was a core part of Tony Gilroy's writing team (he scripted the superb mini-arc set in the Narkina 5 prison complex), is now aboard to co-write big screen effort Star Wars: Dawn Of The Jedi with director James Mangold.
Mangold – who previously directed Indiana Jones And The Dial Of Destiny for Lucasfilm – has been working on the script but also turning his attention to production on his Bob Dylan biodrama A Complete Unknown. Superhero movies were nearing their maximalist peak in 2017 — "Avengers: Infinity War" was a year away, while the DC Extended Universe was self-destructively racing toward "Justice League" without a roadmap or significant audience buy-in — when James Mangold quietly, confidently subverted the genre with "Logan." There had been attempts at revisionist superhero films before, but they were mostly based on/influenced by explicitly revisionist graphic novels (e.g. Zack Snyder's "Watchmen" and Christopher Nolan's Batman trilogy). Josh Trank's "Chronicle" was probably the boldest of the bunch, but that was a top-to-bottom original.
Mangold's "Logan" was different. It used Hugh Jackman, the man who'd been playing Wolverine for 17 years, to tell an X-Men tale that branched out from the film franchise's narrative to depict a Logan in physical decline. Nothing lasts forever — not even, apparently, Wolverine's mutant healing process. He is in unremitting pain, and each altercation plunges him deeper into agony.

Guillermo del Toro's "Pacific Rim" remains one of the very best live-action films inspired by anime that wasn't actually based on anime (though it eventually became one). The 2013 movie is essentially about giant robots fighting kaiju. Its influences are many, from kaiju movies like "Godzilla" and the work of Ray Harryhausen, but also clearly tokusatsu like del Toro's beloved "Ultraman" and even mecha anime like "Gunbuster," "Getter Robo," and "Mazinger Z."
"Pacific Rim," arguably more so than "The Matrix," feels like the biggest American movie inspired by anime, a movie made by someone who loves the medium, at a time when anime was starting to enter the mainstream. But if you asked Guillermo del Toro that question shortly before the release of the film, it seems he would have been a nervous wreck.

After years of exile on planet Disney+, Lucasfilm’s plan to marshal “Star Wars” back to the big screen is about to take off. Just a few hours after “The Mandalorian & Grogu” landed a summer 2026 release date from Disney, another “Star Wars” film from director James Mangold is starting to take shape. THR reports that Beau Willimon is set to co-write the script for James Mangold’s Star Wars: Dawn of the Jedi.
Willimon is a playwright and screenwriter best known for developing House of Cards for Netflix, but he also has some Star Wars experience as he worked on the first season of Andor, writing three episodes of the critically acclaimed series. He will co-write the script for Dawn of the Jedi (which is just a working title) alongside Mangold, who will also direct.

One of several "Star Wars" movies currently in development at Lucasfilm just took a major step forward. Writer Beau Willimon is now set to co-write director James Mangold's upcoming adventure in a galaxy far, far away. Willimon will pen the script alongside Mangold for what is tentatively titled "Dawn of the Jedi", which was first announced last year during Star Wars Celebration.
The news comes to us from The Hollywood Reporter. Willimon is perhaps best known for creating Netflix's "House of Cards." However, "Star Wars" fans will know him best as one of the writers of "Andor," the much-acclaimed Disney+ series about Cassian Andor. Most notably, he penned the episode "One Way Out," which is widely considered to be one of the best episodes of television in the history of the franchise. Willimon was nominated for an Emmy for his work on the episode. Now, he's getting the chance to tackle a movie.

Beau Willimon (Andor) has been tapped to co-write Star Wars: Dawn of the Jedi (working title) alongside the film’s director James Mangold, Deadline can confirm.
First announced at last year’s Star Wars Celebration in London, the project will take place 25,000 years before any Star Wars story we’ve seen before, honing in on the origins of the Force. A release date for the film has not yet been set. Next on the docket for distribution, as far as Star Wars films go, is The Mandalorian & Grogu, which earlier today was dated for May 22, 2026.
Emmy-nominated for his writing on Disney+’s Star Wars series Andor, starring Diego Luna, Willimon is best known for creating Netflix’s acclaimed political drama House of Cards, which ran for six seasons. More recently creating Hulu’s sci-fi drama series The First, he earned an Oscar nomination for his co-writing of the political thriller The Ides of March,...

“House of Cards” creator Beau Willimon will co-write the script for “Star Wars: Dawn of the Jedi.”
He’ll pen the Lucasfilm project alongside James Mangold, who will also direct the film. It will trace the origins of the Force and will be set 25,000 years before any other “Star Wars” project previously seen.
“It’s a chance to tell the entire story of its own, the birth of the force,” Mangold told Variety in 2023 when the film was announced. “When I first talked to Kathy Kennedy about it, I just said, ‘I just see this opening to make kind of a ‘Ben-Hur’ or ‘The 10 Commandments’ about the birth of the force.’ The force has become a kind of religious legend that spans through all these movies. But where did it come from? How is it found? Who found it? Who was the first Jedi? And that’s what I’m writing right now.

While 2023 was a great year for original releases, that is not true for several major franchises, including the fifth installment in Harrison Ford’s Indiana Jones series. As a child who grew up wandering in and out of pubs waiting for my mother to finish her shift, I would have frequent encounters with the eccentric locals who, more often than not, chose to spend their time regaling customers with the same old stories, most of which were either embellished to the nth degree or completely fabricated. It’s these types of characters that lie at the heart of Sean Lyons’ tall tale comedy Smoking Dolphins, a pub-set short which takes these archetypes and finds the similarities they share with double-dealing politicians. Lyons has had great success with Smoking Dolphins on the festival circuit and we’re excited to now be presenting the online premiere for audiences worldwide. It’s clever, funny and really well-constructed, an element of the film we discuss with Lyon in our in-depth interview below where he also reveals the advice on blocking he received from James Mangold.

James Mangold's 2017 film "Logan" remains one of the best of all superhero movies, exploring the final days of a superpowered vigilante with sadness and a sense of futility. It seems that being a costumed crimefighter for multiple decades forces a superhero to live by a code of violence. What happens to a person if they've devoted their lives to fighting and fighting and fighting? It seems that it might hollow out a person's soul. It makes sense that superheroes die tragically.
"Logan" is set in 2029, a time when superpowered mutants have stopped being born. The final generation of mutants is aging out, and of the original X-Men, only Logan (Hugh Jackman) and Professor X (Patrick Stewart) remain in contact. Logan is losing his ability to heal quickly and it's only a matter of time before he sustains an injury that kills him. The Professor is now quite elderly, and...

When Hugh Jackman bid farewell to his iconic role as Wolverine in the 2017 flick Logan, fans were struck by a bittersweet feeling. The movie proved to be an appropriate goodbye to the much-loved character, revealing a more vulnerable and emotional side to the clawed mutant. However, what many fans might not know is that The Wolverine couldn’t have taken place if Fox had adhered to their original plan to have Darren Aronofsky helm the 2013 flick.
The Wolverine, a sequel to X-Men: The Last Stand (2006), was originally slated to be directed by Aronofsky, who is best known for his dark and intense movies like Black Swan and Requiem for a Dream. But, as fate would have it, the director eventually dropped out of the project in order to allow James Mangold to step in and take the reins.

It’s no secret that Lucasfilm, in recent years, hasn’t had an exceptional batting average regarding films announced and projects made. The list of “Star Wars” films and series announced in recent years that haven’t come to pass is too long to list but includes an unrealized new trilogy from Rian Johnson, a movie from Taika Waiti that may or may not get made, “Rangers Of The Republic,” a still-unmade “Lando” series, Patty Jenkins’ “Rogue Squadron” (which may have some life in it still) and an unproduced trilogy by the creators of “Game Of Thrones.”

Marvel boss Kevin Feige pitched the idea to the Oppenheimer actor after getting inspired by another Marvel film. Feige was impressed by how Hugh Jackman’s character arc ended in Logan.

Logan gave a fitting conclusion to Jackman’s Wolverine. At the end of the film, he sacrifices his life for his biological daughter, Laura, and other young mutants. The film became the best-reviewed film in the X-Men franchise.

With cameras rolling on James Gunn’s Superman, the director took to social media to share a special moment and show off a pretty cool gift from people tied directly to the legacy of the character.
James Gunn posted a photo of himself with the grandsons of Jerry Siegel – the famed co-creator (along with Joe Shuster) of Superman – who gifted him an edition of Action Comics #1, where the Man of Steel was first introduced. “A gift from Jerry Siegel’s grandsons Michael and James Larson – a reprint of the first issue of Action Comics signed by Jerry. It’s been great having Mike and Jim around keeping Jerry’s spirit alive in the birth of the Dcu! Here we all were on the day of the cast read through.” That’s a nice gesture from the fellas and shows that there is faith within the family for the project and future of DC.

Robert Downey Jr.’s ultimate sacrifice in Avengers: Endgame is one of the most important scenes in the entirety of the MCU. We have never truly felt the weight of death in this cinematic universe before the end of Tony Stark. According to Kevin Feige, Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine’s iconic and emotional end in 2017’s Logan convinced the makers to chalk out something similar for Iron Man.
Tony Stark’s sacrifice in Avengers: Endgame
Although Scarlett Johansson’s Black Widow faced her end even before Tony Stark, 2021’s Black Widow proved to be her swansong in the superhero universe. Many people may argue over the nature of her return in Black Widow but it can’t be denied that Robert Downey Jr.’s final snapping scene with the iconic “I Am Iron Man” dialogue still hit hard.

Marking his first feature in five years, Election and Drug War director Johnnie To has quietly embarked on his next project. Although no official details have been announced regarding the title or plot, HK01 (via Frank Yan) spotted To filming a scene with Hong Kong pop star Anson Lo, who plays a driver in the film. There’ll surely be more to come, but it’s exciting to see one of our great directors back at work.
Darren Aronofsky has found his next film and star. Following The Whale, he’ll direct Austin Butler in Caught Stealing, Deadline reports, a sports crime drama scripted by Charlie Huston based on his own book. The Sony Pictures project is described as an “adrenaline-soaked roller coaster ride” and will follow Butler as Hank Thompson, “a burned-out former baseball player, as he’s unwittingly plunged into a wild fight for survival in the downtown criminal underworld of ‘90s NYC.
