There have been a lot of tough cancelations this month for the 2024-25 television seasons. Networks canceled beloved shows with big ratings, including shockers like Blue Bloods. Other shows were canceled with smaller viewer numbers, but in what were still favorites.
One of the shows that ABC has canceled falls into the latter category. Some fans argue it is causing an even bigger lack of diversity in an already generic TV schedule.
ABC Cancels Popular Latino-Led Sitcom
In a disappointing move, ABC canceled one of its most popular sitcoms. The network has announced that they canceled Not Dead Yet after two seasons on the air. This is an interesting move since the sitcom was the most-watched comedy on ABC in four years. However, the numbers dropped in Season 2 and ABC pulled the plug.

ABC’s Not Dead Yet is no longer living up to its title.
The network has canceled the comedy, which stars Gina Rodriguez, after two seasons. Not Dead Yet drew the smallest audience of ABC’s three half-hour comedies this season, averaging about 3.2 million viewers in Nielsen’s seven-day ratings (which don’t include streaming).
The cancellation leaves ABC with just two comedies on its 2024-25 schedule for the moment — Abbott Elementary, which is going into its fourth season, and The Conners, which is ending with its seventh. The network also has a pair of comedy pilots starring Tim Allen (Shifting Gears) and Ty Burrell (Forgive & Forget) but likely won’t make decisions on either one until after next week’s upfronts.
Created by David Windsor and Casey Johnson, Not Dead Yet stars Rodriguez as Nell Serrano, who takes a job as an obituary writer after her life falls apart.

After two seasons, ABC has canceled the Gina Rodriguez-led and executive-produced comedy series Not Dead Yet.
Written by Casey Johnson and David Windsor, Not Dead Yet centers on newly single and feeling-old Nell Serrano (Rodriguez), a self-described disaster who works to restart the life and career she left behind 10 years ago. A once-successful journalist, Nell put her career on hold to help her fiancé get his restaurant off the ground. Following their breakup, she takes the only job she can get – writing obituaries – which at first seems like a step backward but ultimately might be exactly what she needs to move forward.
Hannah Simone, Lauren Ash, Rick Glassman, Joshua Banday, Angela E. Gibbs, Jesse Garcia and Brad Garrett also star.

ABC has set Chelsea Handler and Marla Gibbs to guest star in Episode 7 of “Not Dead Yet” Season 2.
“Not Dead Yet” stars Gina Rodriguez as Nell, a journalist who takes a job writing obituaries at the SoCal Independent and soon gains the ability to see and speak to ghosts. The episode featuring Handler and Gibbs, which airs in late March, sees Lexi (Lauren Ash) and Duncan (Brad Garrett) spend a weird version of quality time at the newspaper’s softball game.
Handler will play Sharon Darynson, the owner of the rival news station to the SoCal Independent and the long-time nemesis to Duncan Rhoades (Brad Garrett). While everyone else runs in fear of Duncan, Sharon refuses to be intimidated by him.
Gibbs — the mother of Angela E. Gibbs, who stars in “Not Dead Yet” as Cricket — will play Cricket’s mother, Nana Sugar, who becomes one of Nell’s (Gina Rodriguez) obituary subjects.

Not Dead Yet is back! The ABC workplace comedy about an obituary writer named Nell (Jane the Virgin‘s Gina Rodriguez) who can see the people she’s writing obituaries about begins its second season on February 7 with a visit from the wealthy owner and publisher of the SoCal Independent newspaper Duncan Rhodes (Brad Garrett), who is also Lexi’s (Lauren Ash) father. Already struggling to keep her cool while also trying to impress her difficult-to-please father (and keep the newspaper running), Lexi is not happy to find Rhodes spending the day with Nell, who is also being haunted by a real estate broker who has recently died and dealing with some financial problems. Office hijinks (and a potential new romance!) ensue, with plenty of laughs for viewers. To learn more about what’s in store for the group this season, TV Insider chatted with Josh Banday, who plays Dennis,...

“Things are just a little bit complicated,” Nell (Gina Rodriguez) says in the promo for Not Dead Yet Season 2, which TV Insider is exclusively revealing. That’s a bit of an understatement, given that the ABC comedy, returning on Wednesday, February 7, follows her broke and (now once again) single self-described disaster who writes obituaries at her local newspaper alongside her best friend (Hannah Simone‘s Sam) and her nemesis boss (Lauren Ash‘s Lexi). After taking that job, she realized that she can see the dead people she’s writing about, and they offer her life advice — whether she wants it or not. The promo, which you can watch above, offers a look at Brad Garrett‘s new series regular character, Duncan Rhodes, Lexi’s father and the owner and publisher of the SoCal Independent newspaper (and other successful businesses). He’s described as a total master of the universe...

There are 98 reasons to spectacularly commemorate a 98th birthday. That goes double if the near-centenarian — who blows out the candles December 13 — happens to be an icon who has provided entertainment for generations. “Dick Van Dyke is the last living legend, so it’s the perfect time to honor him,” says Dick Van Dyke 98 Years of Magic‘s executive producer Craig Plestis. “He’s completely pumped about it!” For the two-hour special, recorded in early December, the man himself takes the stage at Television City studios in Los Angeles. “He has so much energy, so much life,” Plestis says. “He wants to do more than we have planned for him!” Here’s a preview. Television series don't always end on their own terms. Some of the greatest shows in the medium's history have been canceled due to low ratings before they could finish telling their overarching story or just as they were hitting their stride creatively. Some of the most egregious examples of series getting the axe before their time include "My So-Called Life," "Arrested Development," "Frank's Place," "Sports Night," "I'll Fly Away," "Deadwood," and "Mindhunters." It's possible no one has had a more brutal small-screen run than Judd Apatow, who, before he became a hit-making film producer, watched helplessly as three superb, critically acclaimed comedies — "The Ben Stiller Show," "Freaks and Geeks" and "Undeclared" — failed to earn a second season.
Sometimes, fan enthusiasm results in these works getting revived in some incarnation or another, and, unfortunately, the results are often unsightly. But at least there's a reason for going back. The same isn't...

“Everybody Loves Raymond” will not be getting a reboot, according to Ray Romano.
On “Real Time With Bill Maher,” Romano addressed the possibility of a reboot, saying, “As far as a reboot, well, it’s now out of the question because unfortunately the parents are gone: Peter Boyle and Doris Roberts.”
Boyle and Roberts portrayed Romano’s parents Frank and Marie Barone on the sitcom. Roberts died in 2016, while Boyle died in 2006, shortly after the show ended.
“They’re never as good,” Romano said of reboots. “We want to leave with our legacy with what it is.”
The news of no revival is a departure from other shows like “Night Court,” “Frasier” and “Roseanne,” which have all gotten their respective reboots in recent years.
Created by Philip Rosenthal, TV sitcom series “Everybody Loves Raymond” aired from 1996 to 2005. Romano starred as the Italian American Raymond “Ray” Barone, a Newsday sportswriter who lives with his wife,...

Two years ago, “Succession” earned all of its first three Best TV Drama Actor SAG Award nominations at once and thus made history as the first series to take up that many slots in one of said category’s annual lineups. Unfortunately, Brian Cox, Kieran Culkin, and Jeremy Strong all ended up losing that contest to Lee Jung-jae (“Squid Game”), but each now has a final chance at redemption. In fact, Gold Derby’s SAG Awards odds indicate that the concluded HBO program is on the verge of racking up an unprecedented four individual male bids in 2024, with a five-slot sweep also well within the realm of possibility.
More than three-quarters of our SAG Awards predictors are backing Culkin in this year’s drama actor race, while his on-screen sister, Sarah Snook, has even more support in the corresponding female category. Our current male top five further includes Strong as...

Brad Garrett is not happy that his name was being used to promote a comedy show starring The Real Housewives of New Jersey personality Joe Gorga.

Gorga’s representatives revealed that the Bravo star just found out about the scam today and “is very disappointed as he was looking forward to performing” in Vegas.
The rep for the reality star assures that “everyone who purchased tickets will be receiving their money back” and “Joe will not be doing a show in Las Vegas.”

The release delays just keep coming: a week and some change after news broke that "Deadpool 3" will likely not make its original release date, Disney has officially announced that several other major 2024 titles will be shifted to later dates. Among them are the extraterrestrial Pixar flick "Elio" and Disney's latest live-action effort, "Snow White." Meanwhile, the Jonathan Majors-led Sundance thriller "Magazine Dreams" has been removed from the release schedule entirely -- two days after the actor was told he'll have to stand trial for domestic abuse charges. Walt Disney Studios has removed “Magazine Dreams,” a dark drama starring Jonathan Majors, off of the release calendar. The film, which Disney’s subsidiary Searchlight Pictures purchased out of Sundance, was slated to premiere on Dec. 8. However, Majors has become embroiled in legal issues involving assault and aggravated harassment allegations stemming from a domestic dispute with his former girlfriend, Grace Jabbari. The actor has pleaded not guilty to the criminal charges.
The studio also delayed the debut of its live-action version of “Snow White” by nearly a year. It will now open on March 21, 2025. “Snow White,” which stars Rachel Zegler as the beautiful princess who has a bad experience with an apple and Gal Gadot as the evil queen, was originally slated to debut on March 22, 2024.

To talk about Peter Cullen's voice acting career is to take a trip through the last five decades of mainstream U.S. animation. The man has lent his voice to so many noteworthy cartoon series that it boggles the mind, including "Scooby-Doo and Scrappy-Doo," "The Smurfs," "Spider-Man and His Amazing Friends," "Voltron: Defender of the Universe," "Alvin and the Chipmunks," "Muppet Babies," "Chip 'n Dale Rescue Rangers," and "Invincible." But one cannot even begin to do justice to his body of work without touching on the iconic character that he's voiced across multiple animated shows and feature films for nearly 40 years now. Truly, at this point, Cullen is all but synonymous with his onscreen counterpart: Eeyore.
After debuting as the Autobots' intrepid leader in "The Transformers" in 1984, Cullen took over voicing the most relatable resident of the Hundred Acre Wood from the late Ralph Wright (who voiced...

Industry insider Daniel Richtman is firing up the old rumor mill this Monday by saying Disney is looking for Elvis filmmaker Baz Luhrmann to helm its live-action adaptation of Tangled. While there has yet to be an official word from Disney about Luhrmann boarding the project, rumblings about a live-action adaptation of Tangled have circulated for weeks. In addition to Luhrmann potentially eyeing the director’s chair, Richtman says Florence Pugh is up to play the lead with sentient locks.
It’s worth noting that even though Richtman’s prediction track record is impressive, industry vet Jeff Sneider says Richtman’s been ill-informed about details related to Disney‘s live-action version of Tangled. While I could see Luhrmann directing, I find it hard to believe Pugh would star as Rapunzel. What do you think?
In Disney’s 2010 animated masterpiece, the magically long-haired Rapunzel spends her entire life in a tower.
