Kung Fu Panda 4 opened big with one of DreamWorks' best box office weekends, second only to the first film in the franchise. Timing played a key role in Kung Fu Panda 4's success, attracting audiences who were nostalgic for the original movies. Despite international release dates still pending, Kung Fu Panda 4 is on track to be a profitable hit, exceeding its budget.
It has been eight years since Po, Master Shifu, and the Furious Five graced cinemas, which made the release of Kung Fu Panda 4 a big deal. Kung Fu Panda has been one of DreamWorks Animation's biggest brands, and thanks to a stream of television shows, it has remained in the public eye in some shape or form. Many were wondering how the film would fare at the box office, particularly since the marketing for the movie kicked in so late and only released one trailer.

Cranston's diverse acting range shines in both comedy and drama, from his iconic roles in Breaking Bad to Malcolm in the Middle. His recent cameo in It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia shows his ability to seamlessly transition between comedic and dramatic characters. Although Walter White defined his career, Cranston's portrayal in Malcolm in the Middle exceeds his appearances in Breaking Bad.
Bryan Cranston is one of the 21st century's biggest names in television, due in no small part to his role as Walter White in Breaking Bad, and his recent reunion with former co-star Aaron Paul confirmed Cranston's status in an interesting way. Despite Breaking Bad being a drama through and through, the show's leading man came from an established comedy background. Since Breaking Bad ended in 2013, Cranston has found his way back to his comedic roots while also finding time to remain in more serious roles.

Kung Fu Panda 4 barely beats Dune: Part Two to retain the top spot at the domestic box office over the weekend. Mark Wahlberg's Arthur the King debuts at No. 3, while fellow newcomers One Life and The American Society of Magical Negroes both land Top 10 spots. Director Jang Jae-hyun’s supernatural horror film, Exhuma, boasts this weekend's highest per-theater average.
Kung Fu Panda 4 just squeaks by Dune: Part Two en route to winning the weekend box office. After a very slow January and February to kick off 2024, things are heating up in March. And according to the estimates, Jack Black’s return as Master Po Ping will repeat as the No. 1 movie in domestic theaters for the second weekend in a row. But it was an extremely close race.

Walter White delivers some of the most memorable quotes in Breaking, showing the duality of the character. Walt's increasing power allows him to become more ruthless, intimidating even the most dangerous criminals. Many Walter White quotes highlight his journey to being a more powerful drug lord while also showing his downfall where he realizes what it cost him.
The best Walter White quotes from Breaking Bad remind fans of the show why Walter (Bryan Cranston) was one of the most compelling protagonists on television for years, with longtime viewers never knowing whether to root for him or despise him. His slow and scary descent from a timid high school chemistry teacher to a drug lord that no one dare cross was riveting through every episode of the series. For the first time in nearly a decade, Kung Fu Panda is back on screen with the fourth installment of the series. Breaking Bad star Bryan Cranston is also back to reprise his role in the franchise as Po’s biological father, Li.
Cranston is one of the most versatile actors around, and his genius extends to voice acting as well. In addition to impressing the audience with his charisma on screen, he has also breathed life into characters through his voice alone.
Li is just one of the many characters that Cranston has voiced in his career. And yet, this role could not possibly be any farther from his Emmy Award-winning turn as Walter White in the AMC crime drama Breaking Bad. Unsurprisingly, between the two characters, Cranston certainly had a lot more fun as Po’s father.

Invincible Season 2 has managed to test the patience of its audience by splitting the eight episodes into two parts. According to fans, it was a greedy move from Amazon Prime Video to stretch out the success of the series, but it has clearly backfired. Exclusive: Karolina Wydra (Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D.) has landed a lead role opposite Rhea Seehorn in the upcoming Apple TV+ series from Breaking Bad creator and Better Call Saul co-creator Vince Gilligan, Deadline has learned. The untitled project, described as a blended, grounded genre drama, has a two-season straight-to-series order.
Per usual, Gilligan is keeping all information about the show under lock and key, so Apple TV+ and producing studio Sony Pictures Television declined comment.
Believed to be a departure from the world of drugs and crime he explored in Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul, the new series has been jokingly nicknamed “Breaking Good.”
“After 15 years, I figured it was time to take a break from writing antiheroes… and who’s more heroic than the brilliant Rhea Seehorn?” Gilligan said at the time of the series’ announcement.

Robert Kirkman is Desperate to Hire Bryan Cranston for Invincible and Only 1 Role is Perfect for Him
Bryan Cranston is one of the most distinguished actors in Hollywood at present. He has brought to life iconic roles such as Walter White in Breaking Bad and Hal in Malcolm in the Middle, among others. With every role, Cranston has always pushed the envelope of his skills on screen, and in the process, he has set the benchmark for versatility.
In addition to being a wonderful actor with a magnetic screen presence, Cranston has also lent his voice to different characters. During the early days of his career, the Drive actor took to dubbing various cartoons and even anime, interestingly.
With a wealth of experience and talent behind him, Cranston is one of the most sought-after voice actors in the industry. The creator of the show Invincible, Robert Kirkman, has been desperately trying to woo the actor to join his cast, and there is one role that is absolutely perfect for him.

Some TV shows manage to maintain quality across all seasons, balancing audience expectations and studio requests. Breaking Bad, Ted Lasso, and Friends are examples of shows that consistently delivered strong seasons without quality dips. Ozark and The Sopranos tell gripping stories with strong character arcs in fewer seasons and ending strong.
For most TV shows that last more than a couple of seasons, there are usually some seasons that fail to live up to the rest, but there are some shows where every season was great. TV shows have an enormous challenge: trying to balance what audiences want, a great story, any studio requests, and fitting everything in on time and under budget. With the most successful and popular shows, usually, the turnaround that is expected can be pretty tight, putting the creatives into a tough spot to get the show made, and sometimes the quality lags.

The Dragon Warrior returned to the big screen this year, as Kung Fu Panda 4 brought audiences back to the Valley of Peace to follow martial arts master and fanboy Po (Jack Black) as he takes the next steps in his kung fu journey. Using all the experience he's acquired, Po must rise above his station as Dragon Warrior, learn to lead others and fight enemies new and old to protect his home. Filmmaker Mike Mitchell saw ‘Kung Fu Panda 4’ as an opportunity to direct a story that deviates from its predecessors while maintaining the essence of the beloved franchise. Having been involved in Po’s journey since the beginning, Mitchell viewed this installment as a chance to helm the director’s chair and tell a fresh tale.
Reflecting on his vision for the film, Mitchell aimed to reconnect with the charm that captivated audiences in the original film while raising the bar for thrills and spectacle. He sought to remind viewers of what made the first ‘Kung Fu Panda’ great while infusing the story with new levels of action and excitement.
To achieve this, Mitchell and his team explored innovative camera techniques, drawing inspiration from live-action films to bring dynamic energy to the animated world. They aimed to create a larger-than-life experience with grander scale, more humour, and exhilarating action sequences.

Actors often reprise iconic roles in unexpected places, like commercials, music videos, and TV shows. The appearance of familiar characters in new contexts can surprise and delight audiences, creating memorable moments. Some actors enjoy revisiting beloved characters for the joy of playing the role again and connecting with fans.
When an actor's performance in a role becomes so iconic that they're known for playing that character, they usually get asked to reprise the role in new and different places outside the original material. It can be shocking to turn on the TV one day and see an actor reviving a character thought long gone for a seemingly random project. However, the more niche and unexpected the circumstances are, the more fun an actor can have with the role outside the confines of a major movie or TV show.
For some, it might be monetary, but for others, they simply enjoy...

Jack Black’s Po is back after nearly a decade, and he’s already receiving a hero’s welcome from audiences.
Kung Fu Panda 4 opened to a stellar $58.3 million domestically, well ahead of expectations and a near-series best in a win for the family marketplace, as well as for DreamWorks Animation and parent company Universal (the studio behind Sunday’s Academy Awards frontrunner Oppenheimer). The only other Kung Fu Panda installment to open higher was the first one in 2008 with $62 million, not adjusted for inflation.
Along with Black, returning members of the Kung Fu Panda 4 voice cast include Dustin Hoffman as Kung Fu master Shifu, James Hong as Po’s adoptive father, Bryan Cranston as Po’s birth father Li and Ian McShane as Shifu’s former student and arch-nemesis.
Series newcomers include Viola Davis as a tiny lizard and shapeshifting sorceress and Awakawfina as a quick-witted thief...

It’s been nearly three months since an animated wide release hit theaters, the last being Illumination’s “Migration” over the holidays. That’s a little bit frightening, but with some expert timing “Kung Fu Panda 4” has arrived, benefitting from a lack of competition for family audiences to score some strong numbers in its debut.
Universal’s animated action comedy film kicked off to $19.4 million from 4,035 theaters across its opening day and preview screenings. That’s the strongest opening day for the series since the 2008 original nabbed $20 million on its first day, on its way to a $60.2 million total across the three-day frame. This new fourth entry won’t reach those heights, projecting an opening of $55 million, but it’ll come in ahead of the figures earned by the 2010 sequel ($47.6 million) and 2016 threequel ($41.2 million).

Kung Fu Panda and its sequels have a lot of heart and feature a talented cast that plays off each other well, contributing to the franchise's longevity. Kung Fu Panda was culturally accurate and well-received in China, serving as an example of cultural appreciation done right. While all the entries in the Kung Fu Panda trilogy are solid, the first movie remains the best in terms of quality, originality, and heart.
The Kung Fu Panda franchise has been going strong since 2008, but there's definitely a best and worst movie in DreamWorks' trilogy. Director Mike Mitchell discusses finding the "perfect story" to tell in Kung Fu Panda 4. Bringing back Tai Lung as the villain was a deliberate choice to challenge Jack Black's Po and elevate the franchise. Ian McShane returns as Tai Lung, adding depth to the character and showcasing the strength of the Kung Fu Panda series.
Finding the “perfect story” to tell for the Dragon Warrior’s big-screen return was of the utmost importance for Kung Fu Panda 4 director Mike Mitchell. Mitchell served as an executive producer on Kung Fu Panda 3, but this time around he sits in the director’s chair, and he was the one tasked with helming Po’s (Jack Black) return. However, it couldn’t just be any old tale being told in the fourth movie. Mitchell said in an interview with ComicBook.com:

You can’t keep the Dragon Warrior down; Kung Fu Panda 4 is off to a promising start at the box office as it has grossed $3.8 million in Thursday night previews. Not bad, Po. Not bad at all.
The box office projections for Kung Fu Panda 4 are shaping up to be the second-best opening weekend of the entire franchise with $52 million. That would help it take the number one spot from Dune: Part Two, which is expected to take in $41 million. The Thursday night preview number is also the best opening for a Dreamworks Animation title since How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World, which opened to a $3 million preview take. Speaking of Dune: Part Two, the acclaimed sequel will finish the week with a domestic take of $111 million, putting it over the first movie’s entire domestic run of $108.8 million.

A new chapter in the “Kung Fu Panda” saga has been unleashed upon movie patrons. This film is accurately called Kung Fu Panda 4 and comes eight years after 2016’s Kung Fu Panda 3. This adventure, however, seems to be less a solid entry in the series and more of an example of the law of diminishing returns as it enjoys its best moments harkening back to earlier films in the series.
Po (Jack Black) faces his most difficult challenge yet as he is told he must retire from fighting as the Dragon Warrior and focus on more spiritual endeavors. For Po, however, this is problematic for two reasons: 1) first, he does not feel qualified to ascend to any sort of spiritual leadership and instead prefers to stick to “kicking butt” and, 2) he must find and train an apprentice to replace himself as the new Dragon Warrior to protect the Valley of Peace.

The affable, karate-chopping, dumpling-loving panda Po is back for his next big challenge – to find and train his replacement – in DreamWorks Animation’s Kung Fu Panda 4, the latest addition to its animated film franchise. As the film opens, Po (voiced by Jack Black) is in the middle of taking down a new big baddie from the sea and saving some residents of the Valley of Peace. After triumphantly capturing the giant sea creature, Po is once again cheered and applauded.
Returning home to help his two dads, Ping (voiced by James Hong) and Li (voiced by Bryan Cranston), with their restaurant, Po hears about a new threat to the valley. A sorceress called The Chameleon (voiced by Viola Davis), because she’s a small lizard that can shapeshift into any creature, is determined to wreak havoc on the town.

Jack Black and Kyle Gass took over the Kung Fu Panda 4 premiere to film an impromptu music video for Tenacious D’s cover of — wait for it — Britney Spears’ classic, “…Baby One More Time.”
In the clip, Black and Gass strut around the red carpet, doing dance moves and jump-kicking while belting along to the D’s hard rock take on the 1998 pop smash. Black also ropes in a bunch of his Kung Fu Panda 4 castmates, dancing with Awkwafina, karate-chopping Bryan Cranston, and taking a punch from Ke Huy Quan.

Review: Kung Fu Panda 4 is pretty standard fare for a new movie in a franchise that’s gone inactive. Watching Kung Fu Panda 4, I couldn’t help but think of Cars 3 or Mission: Impossible Ghost Protocol, which were both “passing the torch” sequels that didn’t really work out that way. Cars 3 all but ended the franchise; while Ghost Protocol was so badass, people fell in love with Tom Cruise all over again, making the notion of him passing on his franchise to a would-be-successor (in that case Jeremy Renner) ludicrous. All that is to say Kung Fu Panda 4 does the usual thing for a long-awaited sequel, with the movie designed...

Stars of TV shows often step in to direct episodes, showcasing their talent and understanding of the show's dynamics. Talented actors-turned-directors like Bryan Cranston, Neil Patrick Harris, and Hugh Laurie excel at capturing emotional moments on screen. Directing requires a different set of skills, but experienced actors like Julie Bowen and Ellen Pompeo successfully wear both hats in TV shows.
Actors on TV are incredibly talented artists capable of creating a visceral character, but some actors take their talents further, opting to get behind the camera as well and try their hand at directing. It takes a huge team to put together most shows, with multiple writers, cast, crew, and countless other creatives in place just to get some footage recorded, then editors, musicians, and many more step in to enhance the project. And for the most part, these different skills each require a great deal of experience to deliver.

Since we’re nearly into Spring Break season for students, the studios are gearing up to release some sequels (usually a Summer staple). I suppose you could consider last weekend’s Dune: Part Two a sequel, though it’s really the conclusion of the original story. Ah, but this weekend’s big studio release is the latest entry in a “tentpole”, a franchise that’s now a teenager (sweet sixteen). Plus it’s an “all-ages” series with a”PG” rating that parents are always searching for (he’s been Mia at the multiplex for eight years now). It’s not from the “Mouse House”, but rather their biggest animation rival for a time. And this was the character they created that truly worked for me (I’m not a fan of the look of the big green ogre’s exploits). Watch out, and hold on to your snacks, as Master Po is back,...

Kung Fu Panda 4‘s limited premiere took place at The Grove in Los Angeles on March 3, where the cast and crew of the film made an appearance to promote the film. The two directors of the film, Mike Mitchell and Stephanie Ma-Stine, exuded confidence in their new film. Ma-Stine even went on to suggest that Po’s story will not end with the fourth film, hinting at the possibility of Kung Fu Panda 5. Fans have one valid condition before they root for the fifth film in the franchise.

Kung Fu Panda 4 is almost here, and early reviews show the animated sequel might become the lowest-rated installment in the entire franchise. With a 74% score on Rotten Tomatoes as of this writing, the movie is still considered fresh. The number could also still go up once it premieres worldwide.

As the fourth film aims to revitalize the franchise, it may also face quite a lot of challenges this time. Kung Fu Panda 3 was released in 2016, and with such a long time in between, there’s no surprise if the hype has already died down.

The animated sequel Kung Fu Panda 4 debuts with a new record at Rotten Tomatoes.
Ahead of its wide release in theaters, Kung Fu Panda 4 has debuted with an initial score of 76% with its early reviews. While this is a fresh rating, it sets the new low for the franchise, following the higher scores set by Kung Fu Panda (87%), Kung Fu Panda 2 (81%), and Kung Fu Panda 3 (87%). The good news is the film is just five percentage points away from matching Kung Fu Panda 2. If more of the reviews that are soon to come in are largely positive, it's possible that Kung Fu Panda 4 could climb out of its unfortunate spot of being the lowest-rated film on the review aggregator website.
