These creations were consciously designed to emulate Marvel Comics' innovative character-based storytelling style for superheroes, which Drake had warned DC's management would make the small rival publisher a major force in the business. Unfortunately for DC, the management scoffed at Drake's warning and was subsequently forced to play catch-up to Marvel in later years.
