With The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live ending its six-episode run on AMC and concluding Rick and Michonne’s story, the wider Walking Dead universe is calling.
Deadline reports that The Walking Dead: Dead City has added a Sons of Anarchy alum to its already-impressive Season 2 cast.
Kim Coates has landed a “heavily recurring role” for the zombie spin-off’s second season, but sadly, no details have been revealed about who he’ll be playing.
The spin-offs that have taken place following the conclusion of the mothership have notoriously kept details about who new actors will be playing under wraps.

Just when it seemed like Maggie (Lauren Cohan) and Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) were done with one another, The Walking Dead: Dead City Season 1 Episode 6 left fans with more questions than answers.
Yes, Maggie got her wish and had her son back, but Negan was left at the mercy of the Croat (Zeljko Ivanek) and, by extension, The Dama (Lisa Emery), who wants him to lead New York.
The shocking final scene found Maggie revealing to Hershel (Logan Kim) she was ready to finish this thing with Negan, but there are plenty of directions for this storyline to go next.
Maggie knows The Dama cut off one of Hershel's limbs, so she knows there's more to the villains in New York than she first thought.
Negan's predicament is also sketchy because, on the one hand, he can stay there to keep Maggie and Hershel safe.
On the other, he could escape,...

This article contains spoilers for The Walking Dead: Dead City season 1 finale.
My mom always taught me that the only thing that happens when you assume is that you make an “ass” out of “u” and “me.” Well sorry, mother, but I assumed AMC’s Maggie and Negan spinoff The Walking Dead: Dead City would be a one-season experience.
The Walking Dead franchise has been around for quite awhile now. First premiering in 2010, the flagship series ran for an impressive 11 seasons and gave way to Fear the Walking Dead (which will wrap up its eighth and final season later this year), The Walking Dead: World Beyond (which ran for two seasons), and many other spinoffs to come including The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon and the Rick and Michonne story The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live.

This The Walking Dead: Dead City review contains spoilers.
The Walking Dead: Dead City Episode 6
The first season of The Walking Dead: Dead City has spent a great deal of time developing some kind of bond between Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) and Maggie (Lauren Cohan). It’s entirely one-sided, as this episode shows, with Negan doing everything he can to try and help Maggie get past the lingering trauma of Glenn’s death at his hand. Maggie couldn’t let it go in season 11 of The Walking Dead, and she cannot let it go now, even though Hershel (Logan Kim) is a teenager and she’s moved on from Hilltop and Alexandria. Hershel long ago let the urge to kill Negan go. Negan long ago atoned for the sins of his past (to most people he’s offended). However, Maggie can’t let it go.
Maggie isn’t Maggie Greene anymore.

Picking up right where the previous episode of “The Walking Dead: Dead City” left off, Maggie and co. dig deeper through the Methane-filled sewers of New York City while Negan and Marshall Perlie Armstrong (Gaius Charles) venture off on their own journey through the city. Ginny (Mahina Napoleon) is now also along for the ride after intervening during the attack on Madison Square Garden.
Napoleon’s character continues to not say a word, choosing only to communicate through judgmental glances. Meanwhile, the Croat (Željko Ivanek) takes a rage-fueled trip to an abandoned theater where he reports the recent skirmish to a mysterious woman called the Dama (Lisa Emery) who seems to be his superior.
The Methane in the sewers causes Maggie to aggressively hallucinate, once again replaying the visual of Glenn (Steven Yeun) getting his head bashed in by Negan. The shocking flashback was very effective in the series pilot,...

AMC continues to mine “The Walking Dead” to death. It has been nearly 13 years since the original series first aired, and yet none of its three spin-offs — soon to be four, plus an additional two in the works — have recaptured the magic of those early Rick Grimes-led seasons. After “The Last of Us” revived the prestige zombie genre with impressive quality and creativity earlier this year, AMC’s insistence on franchising continues to dilute the zombie drama du jour.
The latest spin-off, created and written by “The Walking Dead” producing veteran Eli Jorné, is not likely to convert any new fans. For viewers still slugging through the eighth season of “Fear the Walking Dead,” there are enough horror thrills in the six-episode season of “The Walking Dead: Dead City” to keep you watching and even raise an eyebrow, particularly if you’re already invested in the rich dynamic between...

Ruth Langmore tragically bites the dust in “Ozark’s” fourth and final season, but the woman who plays her, Julia Garner, is still going strong at the Emmys. The actor doubled her nominations tally this July, racking up two bids, including one for “Ozark” for Best Drama Supporting Actress. This is the third time in a row she is shortlisted for the Netflix series, for which she parlayed both of her previous two citations into victories (2019-2020). Should she now continue her winning streak, she will not only score an unprecedented hat trick but also enter record territory in her category.
First off, she would be the first performer under the current popular vote system — which has been in place since 2016 — to win more than two Emmys for one show. What’s more, a third victory would tie her with Ellen Corby — who triumphed thrice for “The Waltons” in 1973, 1975 and...

While this year’s Best Comedy Supporting Actress Emmy Awards lineup could correspond to last year’s exactly, the drama one is guaranteed to be completely different. The 2021 winner Gillian Anderson and her “The Crown” costars Helena Bonham Carter and Emerald Fennell have all exited the series (which did not air new episodes during the current eligibility window). Aunjanue Ellis’s “Lovecraft Country” concluded in 2020, and “The Handmaid’s Tale,” for which Madeline Brewer, Ann Dowd, Yvonne Strahovski, and Samira Wiley were all nominated last year, also did not return in time to contend at this year’s Emmys. Scroll down to see our 2022 Emmy predictions for Supporting Actress (Drama Series).

If Julia Garner (“Ozark”) ends up winning a third Emmy this year in the Best Drama Supporting Actress category after her victories in 2019 and ’20, she would be tied with Ellen Corby (“The Waltons”), who won thrice in 1973, ’75 and ’76. Together, Garner and Corby would then share the second place position in the category, behind only Nancy Marchand (“Lou Grant”), who claimed a leading four trophies in 1978, ’80, ’81 and ’82.
Currently there are eight women who have two wins apiece in this Emmy race: Kristy McNichol (“Family”), Bonnie Bartlett (“St. Elsewhere”), Allison Janney (“The West Wing”), Tyne Daly (“Christy” and “Judging Amy”), Blythe Danner (“Huff”), Anna Gunn (“Breaking Bad”), Maggie Smith (“Downton Abbey”) and Garner. A couple of notes here: Janney later won two more trophies for “The West Wing” as a lead actress, and Smith claimed a prior statuette for “Downton Abbey” when it was classified as a limited series.

There is no doubt that the fourth and final season of “Ozark” was going to be the show’s most ambitious undertaking yet. For composers Danny Bensi and Saunder Jurriaans, who received their career-first Emmy nominations for the Netflix drama’s third season in 2020, this meant they would have the chance to go bigger with their score — or so they thought. “I remember us saying, ‘It’s the fourth and final season — I wonder if we can push [the score] to get a little bigger than usual,'” recounts Bensi in a new webchat with Gold Derby (watch our exclusive video interview above). “I remember the answer coming back to us [being] like, ‘No, stay in the same world and add some new things, but really stay in the same world. We don’t need to depart from what we’ve been.'”

From the very inception, music was indispensable to setting the tone on “Ozark” and making its crime-ridden world and morally complex characters come alive. So, for music supervisor Gabe Hilfer, there was absolutely an impetus to add a musical exclamation point as he and showrunner Chris Mundy were working on the Netflix drama’s fourth and final season. “It was a big focus,” exclaims Hilfer in a new webchat with Gold Derby. “[The show]’s not a musical, we don’t use hundreds of songs… but when we do, they’re very specific, deliberate and intentional, and they’re talked about and discussed behind the scenes.” Watch our exclusive video interview above.

Before the fourth and final season of “Ozark,” Amanda Marsalis had directed only two episodes of the Netflix series, the Season 2 closer (“The Gold Coast”) and fifth episode of Season 3 (“It Came From Michoacán”). So, you can imagine that learning she would helm four episodes of the drama’s 14-episode farewell installment — whose two parts debuted on January 21 and April 29, respectively — elicited quite the response from the director. “Shock, gratitude, excitement and nausea,” she enumerates while describing her initial reaction to the news in a new exclusive video interview with Gold Derby (watch above).
Of the show’s last season, Marsalis directed Episodes 8 (“The Cousin of Death”), 9 (“”Pick a God and Pray”), 12 (“Trouble the Water”) and 13 (“Mud”). Out of these, Episode 8 particularly stands out as it not only is the opener of Part 2 but also breaks with the show’s usual style and structure.

It's hard to believe it, but Ozark has wrapped its run.
After four seasons of a pressure cooker-like environment, the Netflix juggernaut wrapped its run late last month.
Naturally, there are questions about whether the franchise could continue with a spinoff.
“It’s definitely something that people have talked about a bunch,” showrunner Chris Munday shared in an interview with TV Line.
“There’s nothing definitive. We’re lucky that people seem to really like the show so there’s obviously going to be some interest there.”
The shocking finale said goodbye to fan-favorite Ruth (Julia Garner), who was killed off.
Given the interest in that character, there had been rumblings pre-finale that Garner could reprise the role in a new series.
“There are still ways to stay inside the show and revisit things,” Mundy said.
“I’m sure people probably would’ve been happier if Ruth was out there.

There are a lot of evil people on Ozark. The Navarro cartel was filled with your stereotypical drug villains. Morally corrupt federal agent Roy Petty (Jason Butler Harner) served as a hateable antagonist in the first couple of seasons. Darlene Snell (Lisa Emery) was the type of old hag you love to despise. Helen Pierce (Janet McTeer) showed the result of what the Byrdes would eventually become. But no person in the show was more frequently loathsome than Wendy Byrde (Laura Linney).
Wendy made decisions for four seasons that put her family and others in grave danger, even giving the go-ahead to the cartel to murder her own brother at the end of the third season. She was always ready to sacrifice anybody and everybody in the name of “getting out” and “saving her family”. Sounds a bit familiar, right? Wendy seemed...

Warning: Spoilers ahead for all seasons of “Ozark”
Leading up to the January premiere of “Ozark” Season 4 Part 1, showrunner Chris Mundy explained the decision to split the final season in half: a typical 10-episode season wouldn’t be enough to wrap up the story, but airing more than 10 at once would risk overwhelming the audience. The solution, he told TheWrap, was to make two 7-episode seasons that felt complete, “even though it’s all on one continuum.”
Minutes into Season 4 Part 1, it’s clear why this bifurcation was necessary. Every second of screen time is stuffed to the gills with plot; blink and you might miss a character death, new alliance, or so-crazy-it-just-might-work Marty Byrde scheme.
The penultimate chapter of the blue-tinted money laundering drama began with a glimpse into an uncertain – and potentially deadly – future for the Byrdes, and ended similarly for Ruth (Julia Garner).

Netflix has released the official trailer for “Ozark” Season 4 Part 2, but if you’re fearful of spoilers you may want to hold off on watching — this one seems to potentially show a bit too much footage.
The fourth and final season of the Emmy-winning series was split in half, with the first batch of episodes dropping in January and leaving viewers on a whopper of a cliffhanger: Julia Garner’s Ruth Langmore, distraught by the murder of her cousin Wyatt, appeared to be on her way to murder new cartel boss Javier (Alfonso Herrera).
In the full trailer for Part 2, we see where that road leads. There are also rising tensions between Jason Bateman’s Marty Byrde and Laura Linney’s Wendy Byrde. “You’re so desperate to be the good guy,” Wendy tells Marty, while the two are clearly at the breaking point in their money laundering empire.

Spoiler alert: This piece contains spoilers for Part 1 of Season 4 of “Ozark,” currently streaming on Netflix.
As “Ozark” barrels toward its bloody conclusion, the drama series introduced a new and terrifying antagonist for Marty and Wendy Byrde (Jason Bateman and Laura Linney), the money-laundering couple at the center of the show’s criminality and carnage. They make work for Omar Navarro, the coldly calculating leader of the Mexican cartel that has made them rich, but also in constant danger of losing their lives. But it’s Omar’s nephew Javier “Javi” Elizondro who may pose their greatest threat.
A business school graduate, who thinks nothing of personally dispatching civilians, enemies or even unlucky local sheriffs, Javier is ruthlessly ambitious and in a hurry to climb to the top of the cartel ladder. Portraying the Byrdes’ nemesis fell to Alfonso Herrera, a Mexican actor who previously appeared on Netflix’s “Sense8” and Fox’s “The Exorcist.

‘Ozark’ Review: Season 4, Part 1 Questions If There’s Enough Good Left to Bury the Bad (No Spoilers)
When “Ozark” started telling its story (back in July 2017), the rough question surrounding the Byrde family was, “How in God’s name are they still alive?” Fans very well may have asked themselves that question a dozen times over the first 10 episodes, as showrunner Chris Mundy’s propulsive crime thriller kept setting up impervious obstacles, and the ever-resourceful Marty (Jason Bateman) and Wendy (Laura Linney) kept finding creative ways around them. But in the following seasons, as their collective foot eased off the accelerator, Netflix’s Emmy-winning original series began positing subjective queries oft-heard in other antihero tales, like “Are the Byrdes beyond redemption?” and “What’s left of this marriage — of this family, these lives — to save?”
After dwelling on these quandaries for nearly five years — amid sporadic bursts of momentum — we’ve arrived: the final season. Playing out over a super-sized 14 episodes and split into two parts, “Ozark...

The first half of Ozark Season 4 drops on Netflix this Friday.
While Ozark has always been over the top and somewhat crazy in its storytelling, the writers managed to imbue Ozark Seasons 1-3 with an emotional throughline that allowed us to connect with the Byrdes even as they got deeper involved with the criminals whose money they launder.
The fourth season, though, loses some of that emotional levity, and it's no longer easy to connect with Marty (Jason Bateman) and Wendy (Laura Linney) in the same way.
The closest they seem to ordinary people is when it comes to Jonah (Skylar Gaertner) as a teenage money-laundering wunderkind.
Even the emotional gut-punch the family suffered when Wendy allowed her brother to be killed has less meaning in this new season. It stands as a sticking point as Wendy wavers between lashing out about his death and trying to use his "disappearance" to her advantage.

Warning: contains major spoilers for Ozark season 3.
Wendy Byrde may sound like the name of a cutesy cartoon character, but don’t let that fool you. Inside Laura Linney’s Ozark character beats the heart of an ambitious schemer with a taste for chaos. In seasons one and two, Marty’s wife Wendy was a reluctant passenger on the Byrde family journey into money laundering for a Mexican drug cartel, but in season three, she took the wheel.
It was always in her. The arrival of Wendy’s troubled younger brother Ben (Tom Pelphrey) in season three opened a window into her past. Wendy Davis had been a tough, wayward teen from a poor background who got her kicks breaking into empty houses and messing with rich people’s things. On a return trip to Chicago in the season three opener, she broke into the Byrdes’ former home and pulled her old tricks.

Not quite two years will have passed between the release of “Ozark” Season 3 on Netflix and the upcoming premiere of Season 4 on January 21 — but for fans, that’s a very long time to wait to find out what is next for Marty (Jason Bateman) and Wendy Byrde (Laura Linney).
Now at least fans have some clues. Netflix released a trailer January 6 for the first seven episodes of Season 4. (The second seven episodes will stream at a later date.) Here, Marty and Wendy seem poised to be free of their obligation to drug kingpin Omar Novarro — if they can just fulfill a few more small demands. Watch the trailer in the video below, which also teases a tense standoff with the FBI, more Julia Garner intensity, and Linney serving cool ruthlessness.

Netflix has debuted a trailer for Part 1 of the fourth and final season of “Ozark,” which premieres on Jan. 21.
The series stars Jason Bateman and Laura Linney as Marty and Wendy Byrde, who get entangled with the local criminals of the Ozarks in Missouri after moving there to continue their money laundering scheme. Season 4 will follow the couple after the killing of Helen Pierce (Janet McTeer), an attorney for the Navarro drug cartel. Omar Navarro (Felix Solis) brings Marty and Wendy further into the operation while they try to escape the Ozarks, but their past continues to haunt them.
“The Navarro cartel has been made aware that you intend to start producing heroin again,” Marty says to Darlene Snell (Lisa Emery) in the trailer. “They have instructed us to warn you their response is gonna be quick, and it’s gonna be brutal.”
“We’re just the messengers here,” adds Wendy.

The members of the Byrde family make their bloody return in newly dropped images and teaser for the Netflix drama’s fourth and final season.
“Human beings make decisions, they commit acts and that makes things happen. It creates a snowball effect – cause other people to make decisions,” reflects Jason Bateman’s Tk says in the teaser, which traces back through the seasons’ dramatic moments. “The cycle continues and the snowball keeps rolling.”
“No ending is reached by accident,” the teaser then reads.
The tension and drama that fills the brief clip can also be felt in the season’s first look images which sees Marty (Bateman) and Wendy (Laura Linney) covered in blood, Ruth (Julia Garner) sharing a tender moment with Wyatt (Charlie Tahan) and more.

The final season of “Ozark” will premiere Jan. 21, 2022 on Netflix with its first seven episodes. The second seven-episode half of the season will then follow later in the year.
“Ozark” follows the Byrde family’s criminal enterprise in the Ozarks. As patriarch Marty Byrde (Jason Bateman) put it in the series premiere back in 2017, “Money is, at its essence, that measure of a man’s choices.” That quote is laid over the beginning of a teaser for the final season, implying it will come back to haunt him in the show’s final run.

The Byrdes have blood on their hands again in the first glimpse of the fourth and final season of “Ozark” offered Saturday by Netflix as part of its Tudum global promotional event.
The 90-second clip released by Netflix shows the couple at the heart of the series — Wendy and Marty Byrde, played by Laura Linney and Jason Bateman — washing themselves up in a bathroom sink. Both have blood and some kind of grit on their hands, hair and upper body. They appear to be back in Mexico working with the drug cartel family that has been integral to the series in recent seasons.
Netflix did not disclose a premiere date but said the season would air next year.
If anything can top the explosive “bitch wolf” showdown between Emmy winner Julia Garner and showstopper Linney, it could be this final season. Last we saw ‘Ruth Langmore (Garner) had left the...
