In 2004, Degrassi: The Next Generation aired what would become their most controversial episode with “Accidents Will Happen,” which premiered in Canada in two parts on January 26 and February 9, 2004. However, the episode would not see the light of day on Degrassi’s U.S. network, The N, for another two years. This sparked outrage among Degrassi fans and confusion among the show’s stars, who couldn’t understand why, out of every sensitive topic Degrassi had touched upon, the storyline in “Accidents Will Happen” was too much for America to handle.

“Degrassi” fans have a reason to celebrate: a three-part documentary series is in the works about the iconic Canadian teen soap.
Featuring behind-the-scenes footages and interviews, the docu-series promises to “dive into ‘Degrassi’ lore and the teenage experience with its creators, cast, crew and fans, as well as generations of filmmakers influenced by the franchise’s 40-year legacy.” It is set to be produced by family entertainment producer WildBrain (which owns the “Degrassi” franchise) with fellow Canadian production company Peacock Alley.
Originally created by Linda Schuyler and Kit Hood in 1979, “Degrassi” has been a touchstone for teens and young adults for over four decades, reflecting their experiences of adolescence and tackling hard-hitting storylines such as teen pregnancy, racism, AIDS and child abuse.
The show launched the careers of a number of well-known names including recording artist Drake, Raymond Ablack (“Ginny & Georgia”), Nina Dobrev (“Vampire Diaries”), Shenae Grimes (“90210”) and...

While teen dramas talking about serious subject matters is more common these days than they used to be, back when Degrassi: The Next Generation (2001-2015) — just one of several series in the franchise — was on, that wasn’t the case. And when TV Insider recently spoke with Jake Epstein (who starred as Craig Manning across Seasons 2-8) about his latest Hallmark movie, The Wedding Contract, we had to have him look back at his time on the show. “At the time, you never know what kind of impact something you’re in is going to have. And when I was doing Degrassi, I mean, it felt really special and authentic. I loved the character that I was playing,” he shared. “It’s only really been in years after that I’ve really realized that a lot of those stories meant a lot to a lot of people who are maybe...

What happens after the leads fall in love? That’s what Hallmark’s newest movie, The Wedding Contract (premiering June 17) asks. In the film, starring Becca Tobin and Jake Epstein, Rebecca and Adam are a recently engaged Jewish couple who must contend with their different values and beliefs. She’s all about home and family, while he’s focused on his work and not as connected to or familiar with Jewish tradition as she is. And his work becomes a problem when it interferes with their wedding planning — and might be the reason for a possible move to LA. Epstein introduces the new love story. What drew you to the script and to the character of Adam? Jake Epstein: Most Hallmark movies are about a courtship, right? Very few movies answer the question, what happens afterwards? And I think what initially drew me to this movie is that the point that this movie starts,...

A TV show introducing some fresh faces is nothing new. Casting turnover is one of the ways that the medium is able to stay fresh, year after year. Still, there are normal casting tweaks and then there is what The Umbrella Academy is set to do in season 3.
Fans of the series will recall that, at the end of season 2, the Hargreeves children’s time-meddling came back to bite them once again – this time in a particularly spectacular fashion. When Luther, Diego, Allison, and company arrived back to the “present” from their journey in 1963 Dallas, they discovered that a whole new team crime-fighting team was occupying The Umbrella Academy mansion.
Their former father Reginald Hargreeves announced this new team as the Sparrow Academy, and it featured five human silhouettes, one ominous looking cube, and the resurrection of the Umbrellas’ own dearly-departed brother Ben. Suffice it to say, the Sparrow Academy...

Netflix’s comic book adaptation “The Umbrella Academy” returns for a third season while marking a notable milestone for transgender representation onscreen.

In Season 3 of “The Umbrella Academy,” the gifted Hargreeves siblings have found a new foe in the rival Sparrow Academy, which took their place during a time traveling mission to save the world. Netflix dropped the official trailer Thursday, giving fans a look at the insanity to come, including countless fight sequences, mysterious powers and a kugelblitz — a black hole formed from radiation that threatens to swallow the entire universe.
“When we jumped here, we created a time paradox. Our little paradox brought forth a kugelblitz,” Aidan Gallagher’s Number Five says in the trailer.
“What the hell is a kugelblitz?,” Elliot Page’s Viktor Hargeeves asks. “Essentially, we’re screwed,” Number Five responds.
This season, fans will also see changes in Page’s character, who was re-named Viktor from Vanya after Page came out as transgender in 2020. In March, Page announced that his character will also come out as trans on the new season.

“The Umbrella Academy” returns for Season 3 this summer, and they’ve got a whole new time paradox to contend with — and a whole new “family.” Netflix debuted the first Season 3 trailer on Thursday, finally revealing the long-awaited Sparrow Academy in action after their arrival was teased in the Season 2 finale.
Picking up where that left off, Season 3 finds the Umbrella Academy returned from preventing an apocalypse in the past only to discover they completely changed the present — in fact, the Umbrella Academy doesn’t exist anymore, and in their place, they find the Sparrow Academy: an alternate version assembled when Reginald Hargreeves (Colm Feore) adopted an (almost) entirely different lineup of seven children to start his superhero team.
As series creator and showrunner Steve Blackman explained to EW, “the Umbrellas are a family that didn’t know how to be superheroes. The Sparrows are superheroes who never knew how to be a family…...

Netflix has released first look images for “The Umbrella Academy” Season 3, offering a glimpse at the new timeline (and fight for the future) awaiting the oddball heroes in the new season.
After shutting down a 1963 apocalypse in Season 2, the Hargreeves, aka the Umbrella Academy, return home to the present day for a quick breather and short-lived relief over saving the timeline. But it doesn’t take long to realize they’ve changed the timeline more than they expected, and along with the realization that things are not completely Ok, comes the Sparrow Academy: a chilly, clever and fashionable group that clashes with the Umbrellas as soon as they enter the story. An unknown violent force causes damage (possibly thanks to them), bringing the Umbrellas to enlist Dad’s new family to help them correct something they may have caused while trying to fix the Universe’s timeline.

The Sparrows will make their highly anticipated debut on The Umbrella Academy Season 3.
Netflix on Tuesday unveiled a batch of photos for the forthcoming season, premiering June 22 on the streamer.
The new photos showcase returning stars, including Tom Hopper as Luther, David Castañeda as Diego, Emmy Raver-Lampman as Allison, Robert Sheehan as Klaus, Aidan Gallagher as Five, and Elliot Page as Viktor.
As previously reported, however, the new season takes place in a reality where our heroes are unknowns.
In the new timeline, Reginald Hargreeves has created another family of super-powered beings, and we should probably expect a lot of drama.
The students of the Sparrow Academy are played by Justin Cornwell (Jingle Jangle: A Christmas Journey), Britne Oldford (Hunters), Jake Epstein (Suits), Genesis Rodriguez (Big Hero 6), and Cazzie David.

The third season of “The Umbrella Academy” will premiere on June 22, showrunner Steve Blackman announced at SXSW on Sunday. Netflix also dropped first-look images of the cast and a Season 3 teaser, which shows the Umbrella Academy face-to-face with their new counterparts, the Sparrow Academy.
After going back in time to 1963 and saving the world at the end of Season 2, the new season will pick up where the Hargreeves siblings left off. In an altered timeline, Reginald created the Sparrow Academy, a stylish and smart group of superheroes that mirrors the Umbrella Academy. After a violent confrontation, the two groups must learn to team up and defeat a new entity that threatens to destroy everything. The logline from Netflix asks, “Will they find a way back to their pre-apocalyptic lives? Or is this new world about to reveal more than just a hiccup in the timeline?”

"The Umbrella Academy"'s third season is slowly coming together, and there are a handful of new faces coming along for the ride. On Jan. 11, 2021, Netflix unveiled the six actors - and one existential-dread-inducing psykronium cube - who make up the new Sparrow Academy. While Justin H. Min will be playing a new version of Ben, there are some well-known actors playing his gifted brothers and sisters, including Justin Cornwell from "Jingle Jangle: A Christmas Journey" and Jake Epstein from "Degrassi." On March 1, Netflix announced that Javon Walton, aka Ashtray from "Euphoria," has also joined the cast.
The Netflix series' second season, which premiered in July 2020, ends on quite a cliffhanger, with the Umbrella Academy traveling back to the future to find that they have completely altered the present. Netflix is giving viewers some more insight into The Umbrella Academy Season 3.
As part of the streamer's GeekedWeek event, it unveiled the episode titles for all ten episodes.
The episode titles, in show order, are “Meet the Family,” “World’s Biggest Ball of Twine,” “Pocket Full of Lightning,” “Kugelblitz,” “Kindest Cut,” “Marigold,” “Auf Wiedersehen,” “Wedding at the End of the World,” “Six Bells,” and “Oblivion.”
Netflix's GeekedWeek event finds the streamer zeroing in on some of the biggest genre content on movies and TV.
Production on the third season is already underway, but there's no telling when it might premiere on Netflix.
The streamer is expected to have a wealth of shows in the second half of 2021 due to many of its shows being delayed due to the pandemic.
In all likelihood, The Umbrella Academy Season 3 will not be on the air until 2022, and there will be some big changes.

30 year old Cassandra’s mother has just passed away suddenly. With the funeral two days away, she has to cope with helping to make the arrangements, and is insisting that she, as the writer in the family, be the one to give the eulogy.
The framework of the story of Mouthpiece is, sadly, commonplace. Almost all of us will have to deal with the death of a parent at some time and the process, while unique to each of us, is also one that will be, to a degree, universal. The way that Mouthpiece presents this story is what marks it out from many other films that have looked at how their characters process death. The central conceit here is that Cassandra is played by two actresses (Amy Nostbakken as ‘Tall Cassandra’ and Norah Sadava as ‘Short Cassandra). It’s not always quite this simple, but generally speaking Tall Cassandra...

Jake Epstein has been in the entertainment industry for so long that there are a lot of people who probably feel like they’ve watched him grow up. How many crime-fighting superhero families can the world of The Umbrella Academy accommodate? Well, guess we’ll find out soon.
For those of you who don’t recall, the conclusion of The Umbrella Academy season 2 introduced a second Umbrella-style superhero team: The Sparrow Academy. After saving the world in 1960s Dallas, the Hargreeves’ children returned home to their Umbrella Academy mansion only to find that it was occupied by a different “Academy”, this one calling themselves The Sparrows. What’s more is that one of their own, the dearly departed Ben Hargreeves (Justin H. Min) was both alive and a Sparrow member.
At the time, this was a helpful lesson that time travel has its consequences. Now, however, it’s clearer than ever that The Sparrow Academy is here to stay and will remain a big part of the already-announced Umbrella Academy season 3. Netflix today announced the casting of all seven Sparrow Academy members.

Justin H. Min, who plays Ben, will now be playing Sparrow #2 going forward, and Netflix has said the following about the character:
This is not the sweet Ben we know and love. This Ben is a Machiavellian tactician, wrapped up in a pretty boy body with a rumbling inner-squid.
Vicious, pragmatic, and hyper-vigilant— Ben is determined to gain his status as the leader at all costs.

Justin Cornwell will play Marcus, Sparrow #1.
A charming, chiseled, colossus. Honest, virtuous, and demanding, Marcus keeps the family together. Graceful but lethal, calculated but compassionate, he is as smart as he is strong.
