- Brother of Simon Fuller.

- Born Bristol, England, the eldest of three brothers. Father was an RAF pilot who became a primary school headmaster after the war.
- Brought up in Famagusta, Cyprus during the 1950's when the British Army was fighting the EOKA terrorists. The family had a narrow escape when the house was blown in by a terrorist bomb thrown into the front garden. Luckily the only serious casualties were the goldfish in the pond who were treated for shock and awe.
- Attended Lewes Grammar School in Sussex then to Reading University where he gained a BA in English.
- Grandfather was Charlie Bell, a music hall comedian who worked with Fred Karno and Charlie Chaplin.
- Met Matt Groening when he was just starting out on the Tracey Ullman Show, in which The Simpsons first appeared as a 30 second short.
- Worked for a while on Brighton beach renting out deckchairs. Also did a stint as a telephone operator.
