Disney may have nudged Nelson Peltz farther from its board as giant BlackRock is said to be backing the company’s slate of directors. The firm is Disney’s second-largest shareholder at about 4.2%.
The news, first reported in the Wall Street Journal, followed T. Rowe Price, an 0.5% owner, coming out in support of CEO Bob Iger and Disney as shareholders head into the last day of voting ahead of the annual meeting set for Wednesday at 10 am Pt/1 pm Et. The board has over the past three months been the focus of the most expensive proxy fight on record pitting directors and CEO Bob Iger against Peltz, the billionaire activist investor who has pounded Disney on strategy, stock price and, mainly, poor succession planning.
The deadline for voting is 11:59 tonight. The WSJ said that over half of all shares had been voted so far, so things could still change.

London, Aug 13 (Ians) An international team, led by British researchers, has developed a simple blood test which may be able to rapidly diagnose, detect and distinguish between 18 infectious or inflammatory diseases — including group B Streptococcus (Gbs), respiratory syncytial virus (Rsv), and tuberculosis.
Using a single sample of blood, the test could enable clinicians to diagnose the cause of fever based on the distinctive pattern of genes being “switched on or off” by the body in response to specific illnesses.
While current tests for some of the conditions can take several hours, days or even weeks, a test-based on this approach would be capable of providing a result in under 60 minutes.
Researchers from Imperial College London explained that a diagnostic test based on patients’ gene expression could drastically improve the diagnosis of childhood diseases, reduce delayed and missed diagnoses, and have a significant impact on health care, especially in developing regions.

Sunday’s SAG Awards ceremony will be a streaming event for the first time on the Netflix YouTube channel. One of the highlights each year is the special In Memoriam segment. It’s been a particularly rough year with over 100 deaths of prominent actors and actresses who were likely members of SAG/AFTRA. Show producers typically are able to include approximately 40-50 people in a tribute.
Among that group will certainly be Oscar winners Louise Fletcher, William Hurt and Irene Cara, plus nominees Angela Lansbury (a SAG life achievement recipient) and Melinda Dillon. Emmy champs Mary Alice, Kirstie Alley, Leslie Jordan, Ray Liotta, Stuart Margolin, Robert Morse and Barbara Walters.

What kind of twisted experience must director Noah Harald have endured to inspire the anti-heroine of Lila Carter? As the Starlet, Lila takes the remorseless, manipulative, sleep-with-anyone-who-gets-me-to-the-next-rung starlet cliché to a whole new plateau, all with winking Southern affectations. It took me a while to figure out the facial resemblance, but Ellie Gerber’s Lila has some Britney in her with the smile and spunk of a (young) Mary Lou Retton. Add a whole heap of Melrose Place, and you’ll begin to get a sense of this belle-on-wheels. In the beginning of this Filmaka web series, Lila says goodbye to daddy and leaves Sweetwater, Texas with her boyfriend with the fully self-aware conceit of conquering Hollywood, and conquer she does. During her first night in California, Lila ditches her hometown sweetheart like excess baggage and sexes her way in to a velvet-roped club, where she meets, and then services,...
