The Tyler Corporation has finally figured out how to engineer a prehistoric raptor genetically, but they didn’t stop there… they also made it invisible. Unfortunately for them, he’s a really smart invisible raptor. After easily breaking out of its enclosure, it’s now up to washed-up amusement park palaeontologist Dr Grant Walker and hapless loner Security Guard Denny Danielson to stop the predator before it wreaks havoc on the entire community of Spielburgh County. With the help of local celebrity chicken farmer Henrietta McCluckskey and Grant’s old flame Amber, they uncover the truth behind the mysterious apex predator.

It takes an incredible amount of intelligence to get a film as gleefully stupid as The Invisible Raptor to work. Yes, it’s Jurassic Park on one hundredth of the budget, with a giant empty space where the dinosaurs should be; hilarity is more than likely to ensue, running off just that pitch alone. But despite what much of the low-budget genre market would have you believe, one good joke does not make a film. Something which thankfully, director Mike Hermosa and writers Mike Capes and Johnny Wickham well and truly take to heart here, doubling down on absolutely everything around their bloodthirsty – and yes, totally invisible – mega beastie.
A chuckle-worthy, Sean Astin-starring cold open definitely sets the tone; outrageous gore, parody-level Spielberg gags, surprisingly decent production design. But it’s when Capes himself appears on the scene as dashing, fedora-sporting lead Dr. Grant Walker, that we start to...

After an exhausting day, sometimes the antidote is turning on Ti West's "X," so we can bask in Maxine's unshakable and b**** courage -- channeling any of that power and strength for ourselves. Other times, we crave a kinder touch and assurances that we're precious too: This is what the goddess Melba May (Park Overall) provides viewers in Darren Stein's directorial feature debut, 1997's "Sparkler." Ok, she's not actually a goddess in the film, but she might as well be! If you've never heard of the low-budget comedy road trip film from the creative mind of "Jawbreaker," it's because it was virtually impossible to find until it hit streaming this month.
Not only does it cast Freddie Prinze Jr. against type as an antagonist heel (which we love to see), but it also stars Jamie Kennedy ("Scream"), Steven Petrarca, and horror legend Veronica Cartwright. What opens up as...

"Let's party!" Strand Releasing has debuted a 2K re-release trailer for a 90s indie dramedy titled Sparkler, made by filmmaker Darren Stein just before he would go on to direct Jawbreaker. It debuted at the 1997 Hamptons Film Festival, only getting a video release later in 1999, but not many people have heard of this. Melba is a Californian trailer-park girl who is said to look for three kings by a phone psychic, and when she meets three guys – Trent, Brad and Joel traveling to Las Vegas, she decides they are those kings and joins them on a trip. In Vegas she meets up with her old high school pal Dottie. The film stars Park Overall as Melba, with Freddie Prinze Jr., Jamie Kennedy, Steven Petrarca, Veronica Cartwright, Grace Zabriskie, Octavia Spencer, Frances Bay, Glenn Shadix, and Sandy Martin. This does not seem as fun as the other 90s classic Vegas comedy Swingers,...

Pixar, after the moving and original film, Soul, is back to a more “traditional” film with their newest movie, Luca, that is now available on Disney+ in the States and in theaters overseas. Luca, like Soul, is included with your monthly fee for Disney+ (who did Pixar make angry at the House of Mouse?) and is a fun and enjoyable family film that harks back to the magic of Pixar’s older films.
The Plot:
Luca’s main plot revolves around the friendship between two teenage sea monsters, that magically turn human once they arrive on land, in a small Italian Rivera town in 1963. Luca Paguro (Jacob Tremblay) is a sea monster living with his over-protective but loving parents, voiced by comedians Maya Rudolph and Jim Gaffigan,...

So, travel venues are finally opening up just in time to escape those sweltering Summer temps. Someplace with a beach sounds ideal, though you may want to get some sand between your toes virtually while waiting for the world to get a tad more stable. Last week Israel was our getaway in Sublet. This weekend we’re headed to sunny Italy for a “va-cay” put together by some incredible travel agents (yup there are some left) out of Emeryville, CA. Yes, those titanic talents at Pixar are whisking us away to the Italian Riviera for a magical adventure. But how does it stack up against their excursions to Ireland (Brave), France (Ratatouille), and Mexico (Coco)? Well, to find out you’ll be introduced to a young lad. To borrow from the Nat King Cole classic “Nature Boy” (rather than the obvious Suzanne Vega ode to a second-floor dweller), “There was a boy.

“It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia”‘s 13th season is getting topical with episodes that take on the Time’s Up movement against sexual harassment, as well as the broader Women’s March for female rights and gay pride.

Don’t look to today’s It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia tweets — with new key art and a teaser promo — for answers on whether Glenn Howerton’s Dennis will be on the show when it returns September 5 for Season 13 on Fxx.
But there are clues on this Friday the 13th. Sorta.
In the new key art, Sunny‘s Charlie Day, Rob McElhenney, Danny DeVito and Kaitlin Olson are pictured, in slasher-flick style, running terrified from a secluded cabin. In the background, on the cabin porch, is an ax-wielding, hockeymask-wearing maniac. Could the Jason Voorhees wannabe be the gang’s Dennis?
Very possibly, given Dennis’ well-established sociopathic tendencies and serial killer fantasies. But more to the point, does his background placement signal a reduction in Howerton’s presence on the comedy? The actor’s NBC sitcom A.P. Bio was renewed in May for a second season.

"We're all family here, no matter how small." Disney has dropped a stunning first teaser trailer for the live-action Dumbo movie, about the elephant that can fly. Did you forget they were making this? Well, surprise! Here it is! Dumbo is directed by iconic filmmaker Tim Burton, who has been working with Disney ever since Alice in Wonderland and most recently made Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children. This new Disney Dumbo adventure features an exciting ensemble cast: Danny DeVito, Eva Green, Colin Farrell, Nico Parker, Finley Hobbins, Alan Arkin, Joseph Gatt, Sandy Martin, with Michael Keaton as the evil entrepreneur villain. Clearly the elephant is all CGI, but the rest of this looks quite good - though it reminds me of the circus scenes from Burton's Big Fish more than anything else. This first teaser is really wonderful, you might be surprised by how moving this is. Looking forward to seeing more from this.

Rob McElhenney, Glenn Howerton, and Charlie Day have never been afraid to get a little meta with “It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia.” From “The Gang Recycles Their Trash” (in which plot points from previous episodes were repurposed) to “The Gang Misses the Boat” (a Season 10 episode where the people of Paddy’s Pub decide they’ve drifted too far from their roots), episodes crop up where the “It’s Always Sunny” gang is doing more than comment on society: They’re talking about themselves.
What could come across as unappealingly egocentric is instead charmingly apt considering “Sunny” is all about selfish assholes, and the topic of this week’s episode channels such narcissistic villainy toward a new purpose: highlighting the difference between half-hour comedies and manipulative sitcoms. Similar to the brilliant deconstruction of classic sitcom structuring in “The Gang Tries Desperately to Win an Award” (the lighting! the romantic pairings!

Sundance Institute today announced the films and music acts that will headline the Sundance Next Fest summer festival August 7-10 in Los Angeles. Next Fest, headquartered at the Theatre at Ace Hotel Downtown Los Angeles, celebrates the intersection of film and music and the renegade spirit of independent artists. Tickets ($15-25) go on sale to Sundance Institute members today and all others tomorrow at sundance.org/next
In addition to a 10th Anniversary screening of "Napoleon Dynamite" with Cinespia at the Hollywood Forever Cemetery as the festival’s kickoff event on August 7, Next Fest will present the Los Angeles premieres of six films that first screened at the 2014 Sundance Film Festival in Park City, Utah, and offer unfettered creativity and fresh perspectives. The program features a zombie love story, an Iranian-set vampire movie, a modern tale of buried treasure, a thriller about a mysterious soldier, and films that explore the perils of artistic ambition amongst gang life in Watts and the literary world of New York respectively.
Each film screens once at the Theatre at Ace Hotel August 8-10 and will be paired with either a special music act that shares a complementary artistic sensibility or conversations that bring together filmmakers with those who inspired them. The Sundance Film Festival programming staff selected the films and music acts for Next Fest.
The festival is an extension of the popular Next <=> section at the Sundance Film Festival, which showcases stylistically adventurous and bold films, and builds on the Institute’s Next Weekend event, hosted in 2013.
John Cooper , Director of the Sundance Film Festival, said, “Next Fest is a continuation of our efforts to connect film-loving audiences with the next generation of independent filmmakers. The unique convergence of film and music enhances the experience of each and offers fresh insight into the talent and vision of these outstanding independent artists.”
Trevor Groth , Director of Programming for the Sundance Film Festival, said, “In the heart of one of the most creative cities in the world, Next Fest will launch a new wave of film and music talent into the artistic atmosphere. The Theatre at Ace Hotel, with its roots in cinematic trailblazing, will serve as the ideal hub for this cultural adventure.”
Sundance Institute members have access to a host of benefits related to Next Fest, including the ability to purchase tickets today, before they go on sale to the general public tomorrow. At the August 7 screening with Cinespia at the Hollywood Forever Cemetery, members will enjoy a reserved seating section and receive an exclusive tote bag, screenprinted live at the event by Hit + Run. Members are also invited to a special party during Next Fest and are eligible to win a prize package including a three-night stay at the Ace Hotel plus airfare. For more information visit Here

Gosh! To celebrate the 10th anniversary of Napoleon Dynamite (and promote the film's new "10 Sweet Years" Blu-Ray), Fox Searchlight reunited the cast for a special screening of their absurdist sleeper comedy on Monday, June 9th. Jon Heder, who played the socially awkward title character, was in attendance – along with a hideous bronze statue of the iconic nerd, decked out in moonboots and his classic "Vote For Pedro" T-shirt. Fox Searchlight shared pictures of the terrifying statue on their Facebook, and the results are nearly as memorable as Napoleon's liger drawing.

Step aside, toddlers. It's the grown-ups' turn to wear the tiara, now.
In the trailer for "Ass Backwards," Casey Wilson and June Diane Raphael play aged-up former pageant girls Kate and Chloe, women who fancy themselves Carrie Bradshaw-style New York go-getters but are, in reality, egg donors who are being judged hard by Alicia Silverstone (hi, Alicia! Loved you in "Clueless"!).
When an invitation to return to the pageant they competed in as little girls comes, the two have a chance to reclaim their former glory. Er, glory may not be the greatest word for it, as Silverstone's character points out; they came in dead last even as kids. Always something to be said for second chances!
EW.com premiered the poster, featuring Wilson and Raphael in their full glitzed-out glory, yesterday, along with comments from the stars.

The movie may be a cult favorite but the Napoleon Dynamite TV show wasn't popular enough for Fox. They've cancelled the animated series after one season.
Napoleon Dynamite follows the continuing mis-adventures of "America's most awesomely awkward teenager" and his quirky family and friends in rural Idaho. The voice cast includes Aaron Ruell, Diedrich Bader, Efran Ramirez, Jon Gries, Jon Heder, Sandy Martin, and Tina Majorino.
The series debuted on January 15th with a very healthy 4.4 rating in the 18-49 demographic with 8.31 million viewers. It benefited greatly from a lead-in from The Simpsons and an NFL game before that.
The second episode dropped like a rock by 25% in the all-important demo. The next two weeks fell a whopping 36% and then another 14% after that -- to a 1.8 in the demo with 3.81 million viewers. Had...

Mac (Gary Sinise) comes into his usual coffeeshop for breakfast and comments on the woman's new boyfriend. He orders what we think is the usual, oatmeal, raisins and maple syrup. A woman talks to Mac, he's an oatmeal person. The waitress, Amy (Emily Harrison) accidentally drops a plate of bacon on the floor and a man holds a gun behind a newspaper. Another man pulls a gun and is shot, so is Amy. Mac helps her. Mac: "Save it for your new boyfriend, Amy, you're gonna tell him about how you survived all this. "Flack: (Eddie Cahill) "I'm never gonna get a better eye witness account than this." Mac recalls there were three shots fired, first ricocheted off the metal chair, which Danny (Carmine Giovinazzo) finds went through the pastry tray and into the wall. The second hit Amy and the third hit the man. There are prints on the phone.

It's been nearly eight years since Napoleon Dynamite hit the big-screen. The characters were somewhat cartoonish but were fans of the live-action cult classic really looking for an animated TV series sequel?
Napoleon Dynamite follows the adventures of an awkward teenager (Jon Heder) and his family and friends in a small-town in rural Idaho. The original castmembers reprising their roles from the film include Heder, Aaron Ruell, Efren Ramirez, Tina Majorino, Sandy Martin, Jon Gries and Diedrich Bader.
Is this new TV series worth your time? Here's what the critics are saying:
La Times: "It appears to be aimed squarely at a tween and early teen audience, making it a rare bird among 'grown-up' animated shows. South Park, Family Guy and even The Simpsons have forced parents, already burdened by the dilemmas of social media, to agonize over when their kids...

Fans of the 2004 movie "Napoleon Dynamite" are a select, fiercely loyal set. They are also somewhat of a niche audience, which might make it a tough proposition as a crossover animation hit in the best possible scenario. Sadly, Sunday's (Jan. 15) series premiere of "Napoleon Dynamite" on Fox is not the best possible scenario.
Don't get us wrong. We wanted this show to be a success because we liked the movie and everyone attached to it -- most of whom are along for the animated ride, too. Jon Heder (Napoleon) is here, along with Jon Gries (Uncle Rico), Aaron Ruell (Kip), Efren Ramirez (Pedro) and the incomparable Diedrich Bader (Rex). Not to mention Tina Majorino (Deb) and Sandy Martin (Grandma).
Part of the unexpected genius of the movie was the deadpan delivery from the actors -- much of the humor was visual. Sadly, it doesn't translate to animation -- at least not this animation.

Rest easy, Booth and Brennan fans. Bones creator Hart Hanson told reporters at the TCA press tour today that he is “very confident” that there will be an 8th season of the fan favorite Fox series. “Putting Booth and Brennan together, raising a child, we feel reinvigorated the series,” added Hanson, who feels there are an “infinite” number of murder stories available for Booth and Brennan to investigate.
Hanson was actually speaking to the TCA press about his Bones spin-off, The Finder – albeit via Skype, due a motorcycle accident on Tuesday that left him with a broken ankle. (At one point,...

Napoleon Dynamite was without a doubt the sleeper hit of 2004, and a new animated series based on the original film is coming soon. The cast from the film - Jon Heder, Aaron Ruell, Efren Ramirez, Tina Majorino, Sandy Martin, Jon Gries and Diedrich Bader - will return to voice their characters in the series, and many new characters will be added along the way. Official synopsis: Based on the hit film, Napoleon Dynamite is an animated series that follows the continuing adventures of America's most awesome awkward teenager and his quirky family and friends as they struggle to navigate small-town life in rural Idaho. Embedded below are the trailer and a few clips that were released at Comic-Con this year....

[1] A few months ago we showed you the first trailer [2] for Napoleon Dynamite: The Animated Series, which offered a brief glimpse at the new show. At this year's Comic-Con, Fox brought out several clips to give the audience a better taste of what to expect. Based on 2004's sleeper hit indie, the new show will see all of the main cast from the movie -- Jon Heder, Aaron Ruell, Efren Ramirez, Tina Majorino, Sandy Martin, Jon Gries, and Diedrich Bader -- revisiting the now-animated town of Preston, Idaho to lend their voices to their cartoon counterparts. Jared Hess and Jerusha Hess, who created the film, are executive producing along with Mike Scully (The Simpsons). Watch the clips after the jump. And here's the trailer: [Clips via Geek Tyrant [3]] I'm of two minds about this show. On the one hand, as Germain pointed out [4], the characters from the original Napoleon Dynamite were "pretty much animated already,...

Comic-Con is over, and though we all couldn't make it, we can all get plenty of tastes of the excitement. Fox was out in full force at the event, and several shows were there chatting up fans, including some newcomers to the fall schedule.
Glee didn't quite have the A-List in attendance, and Terra Nova took over with the trailer of all solar-powered zaniness, but overall, fans appear to have had a great time no matter what show they were most interested in.
Fringe was a hit, with all the stars showing up, and much talk about Joshua Jackson, and shows like Allen Gregory and Napoleon Dynamite had the right names to be instant hits at the Con, even if the potential for the shows is still up in the air.
At any rate, I have a round-up for you of clips and images, just to give you a taste of what went on,...

"Napoleon Dynamite's" adaptation from cult movie classic to animated TV series has pretty much everything going for it -- a "Simpsons" writer at the helm, a stellar regular cast and a built-in fan base. And, at a Thursday (July 21) Comic-Con press conference, writer Mike Scully dished about four guest stars scheduled to appear in the show's first six-episode season.
"We've got Amy Poehler, Sam Rockwell, Jemaine Clement and Jennifer Coolidge," said Scully at a Comic-Con press conference promoting the upcoming Fox show.
The show already managed to sign all the principal actors from the movie -- from lead Jon Heder (Napoleon) to Jon Gries (Uncle Rico and "Lost's" Roger Linus) to Tina Majorino (Deb) and Efren Ramirez (Pedro). Even Sandy Martin (Grandma) -- like Majorino, a a "Big Love" alum -- and the multi-talented Diedrich Bader (Rex).
