David Moscow began his Hollywood career in the late 80s as an actor. The Bronx, New York native started performing as a child and has appeared in dozens of screen and theater productions over the years. The American actor debuted onscreen at age 12 in 1986, playing Eugene in the “Date of Future Past” episode of Sherry Coben’s Kate & Allie. Director Penny Marshall's "Big" was, in many ways, the film that made Tom Hanks. Released in 1988, Marshall's hit comedy centers on Josh (David Moscow), a 12-year old boy whose wish to be "big" results in him falling asleep one night only to wake up a 30-something adult (Hanks). Thanks to his child-like outlook, Josh is quickly able to snag a high-profile job at a lucrative toy company. He even begins a romance with his co-worker Susan (Elizabeth Perkins), who finds his sincerity and innocence a welcome balm after years of dating self-absorbed, insecure men.
Yes, Josh and Susan's relationship is kind of weird and creepy when you ignore the magical realist conceit, but Marshall was well-aware of that and took care to handle their love story as sensitively as possible. "Big" is equally thoughtful in the way it shows Josh struggling to adjust to the harsh realities of adult...

If you can remember sitting in a movie theater watching Tom Hanks as a grown-up child, we’ve got some news for you: You’re Big! That’s a nice way of saying you’re all grown up now, too — because it’s been 30 years since the release of director Penny Marshall’s fantasy-comedy classic Big, and to mark the occasion the movie is returning to theaters this July.
Thirty years ago this summer, 12-year-old Josh Baskin uttered a secret wish to a carnival fortune-teller machine and made movie history as he grew up overnight, turning director Penny Marshall’s Big into a box-office smash and one of the defining films of the 1980s.
To celebrate the 30th anniversary of Big, Fathom Events, Turner Classic Movies (TCM) and Twentieth Century Fox are bringing its magic back to movie theaters throughout the U.S. as part of the yearlong TCM Big Screen Classics series.

Having seen ‘Big‘ so often, that the magic of it has worn thin on me, I notice on my latest viewing something I hadn’t thought of before, in that now that Josh has returned to being a normal 13-year old, what will happen to him. Is he a normal 13-year old anymore, after spending six weeks as an adult working in the corporate market, having sex with women, earning a paycheck, going on dates, exactly how will his life change after this experience? It’s probably not much of a point that people will observe watching the film,...

There are plenty of fairy tales told about small town girls who cross paths with a famous actor or rock star and fall in love and the two live happily ever after. This is not one of those stories. Desolation is a nightmare, about a girl falling for a movie star and relocating with him to a very haunted Hollywood, and Et has the first trailer.
Katie (Dominik García-Lorido) ignores all the red flags when actor Jay Cutter (Pitch Perfect's Brock Kelly) boasts about the high-profile homicides that happened in his building and soon finds herself seeing dead people, ghostly children and, naturally, a seriously sinister priest. "Are you sick?" he asks. "Have you been having any nightmares? Have you been diagnosed with mental illness? Hallucinations? Loss of appetite? Voices? Paranoia?"

When David Moscow made his 'Big'-screen debut in 1988, it was huge. Penny Marshall had plucked this precocious, 11-year-old kid from the Bronx to play the younger version of Tom Hanks' character, Josh Baskin. And in that same season, another kid won for Best Young Actor in a Drama Christian Bale for 'Empire of the Sun.'...

David Moscow has a new wish for Zoltar -- but this time, he wants money! The now-40-year-old actor, who stole our hearts in 1988 as Josh Baskin in "Big," recreated some of his more memorable scenes to raise funds for his Kickstarter campaign. Sporting his iconic red and white letterman jacket, the former child star tries his luck with Zoltar yet again. "I wish I had money to finish my movie," he tells the machine. "If only life was like a movie, I would have the money for post-production already." Later in the clip, David describes the premise of his new movie -- a thriller called "Desolation." The film is about a small town girl, Katie, who follows a "heartthrob" actor to Hollywood only to have things take a sinister turn. "One of the reasons I loved the script is because it reminded me of the psychological thrillers in the...

Big remains one of our favourite Tom Hanks childhood movies (perhaps losing out to Turner and Hooch, boy did that make us blub, we barely held it together) so we're slightly unnerved by reports that a TV series based on the film has been commissioned.
Kevin Biegel and Mike Royce are now said to have received a script plus penalty commitment from broadcaster Fox for the half-hour comedy series, which will explore what it means to be both an adult and child in today's world.
The 1988 Oscar-nominated movie, written by Gary Ross and Anne Spielberg, sees a boy's simple wish to be big come true as a 13-year-old is transformed into a 30-year-old overnight.
We take a nostalgic look at the cast of the huge hit - including Tom Hanks and John Heard - and what came next below:

The second audition of David Moscow's career involved Penny Marshall, Robert De Niro, and a script about a 12-year-old Jersey boy who wishes "to be big." Though De Niro passed on the role made iconic by Tom Hanks, "Big" became the most recognized film on Moscow's career resume. "Personally and professionally, it was a complete change," Moscow said in a recent interview marking the classic comedy's 25th anniversary. "At that period of time I was 12, and my mom would be scolding me for being bad on the street, and then suddenly people would come up to me and be like, 'Hey, can I have your autograph?' ... It was a wild time, it was a wild way to be introduced into the business." Moscow has since turned his focus from acting. He produced indie horror comedy "Hellbenders" ("'Ghostbusters meets 'The Hangover'"), which premiered during Tiff 2012's Midnight Madness screening series,...

Now, it's been turned into a Broadway musical that has earned eight Tony Award nominations, including Best Musical, winning Best Choreography and Best Original Score.

E! News reports that Washington, 36, and Asomugha, 31, wed on June 24 in Blaine County, Idaho. The couple has reportedly been dating since summer 2012. This is Washington's first marriage. She previously was engaged to actor David Moscow, but broke off the engagement in 2007.
Not long after she quietly married Asomugha, Washington tweeted that she would be going radio silent for a few weeks so she could go on "vacay" -- likely to celebrate her honeymoon. "Ok. Logging off! See u in a few weeks! So excited 4 all u UK #Gladiators about 2 experience Season 2! Spread the word! July 4th @More4Tweets," she posted.

The star of Django Unchained and Ray, Kerry Washington wasn't even going to audition for a new TV series set in the White House. Now she's the bad-ass spin doctor at the heart of America's favourite new drama. Prepare to become addicted

Tomorrow is the 25th anniversary of Big, the movie that boosted Tom Hanks from being just a funny leading man to an Oscar-worthy movie star. It’s also the comedy that put filmmaker Gary Ross on the map as he too earned an Academy Award nomination for this, his first feature script (co-written by Steven Spielberg’s sister, Anne). Directed by Penny Marshall, it was a word of mouth kind of hit, having opened in second place behind Crocodile Dundee II in its second week then going on to become the fourth highest grossing movie of 1988. For those of us around the same age as Josh Haskins (David Moscow/Hanks) at the time, it was a thought-provoking What If? situation even if most of us found a lot of the scenarios and behavior to be well-below the character’s maturity level. The tricky thing about Big in terms of highlighting its best moments is that it’s...

In creating fantasy worlds on the big screen directors have often sought out strange and bizarre inventions to tell their stories. Technology has played a vital role in communicating the future visions of many a filmmaker and thousands of invented oddities are piled high in the collective movie storeroom. To mark the release of Total Recall on Blu-ray and DVD on the 26th of December we wanted to plunder that storeroom.
Movie tech can be something as merry as a flying car or it could be a mind-altering machine such as Colin Farrell has himself plugged into in the image above or, taken a little further, a mind-wiping device granting their user that elusive spotless mind.
While you can’t buy any of these particular gadgets this Christmas we thought it harmless to list six of the best (and worst) pieces of movie tech filmmakers have promised us over the years.

When we watch films about romance, we’re always sure we know how it’s going to go; after triumphing over adversity, the guy will ride off into the sunset with the girl of his dreams, the credits will roll, and everyone will be happy. But occasionally, filmmakers dare to challenge this convention, arriving at a somewhat more realistic conclusion, and one which in flouting the prescribed climax, can be uncommonly affecting and thoughtful.
Here are 9 great films that dared to challenge our preconceptions of romance in films, and are much more memorable as a result.
9. Big (1988)
Big is a film so loaded with charm that it could have coasted quite easily on its novel premise, of a young boy, Josh Baskin (David Moscow) who goes to a wishing machine at a carnival and wishes to be grown-up. He awakens as a 30-year-old version of himself (Tom Hanks), albeit still...

Why do we like the things we like? Sure, this may be a almost hilariously simplistic and loaded question, but one that can be fascinating to consider depending on the topic. Think of the major touchstones of nostalgia for most people born in the 1980s. Some are comic strips, such as Calvin and Hobbes; some are TV shows, such as Saved by the Bell; and some are movies, such as The Goonies. For many people, this the pop culture of their childhoods. This is their childhoods as a whole. As I’ve mentioned before, I don’t really wade into nostalgic waters that often.
I realize, of course, that saying I don’t get too nostalgic for my childhood, or for a time that never fully existed in...

Thousands of women and girls around the country are simultaneously squealing at the news that "Newsies" is coming to Broadway, reports the AP. The show will begin a limited run in March 2012.
Frankly, we're a little surprised the popular 1992 Disney movie musical starring Christian Bale and David Moscow hadn't been made into a musical before now.
The movie tells the tale of the real-life child newspaper sellers in 1899 New York City who go on strike. Alan Menken and Jack Feldman, who did the music and lyrics for the movie, have teamed up for the Broadway version as well, alongside new story writer Harvey Fierstein.
According to the AP, the new version will keep all the old favorites - "King of New York," "The World Will Know," "Carrying the Banner" and "Seize the Day" - but will also add a young female reporter to the storyline.

#29. Hellbenders - J.T Petty This one might be a little of a stretch, but perhaps a decade since J.T. Up the budget a little more, insert 3D technology and add thesps Clancy Brown, Dan Fogler and Clifton Collins Jr. to a genre-twisting nouveau horror film and Hellbenders might be the hot pick-up title in the Park City at Midnight section. A look at what's new on DVD today:
"Meskada" (2010)
Directed by Josh Sternfeld
Released by Anchor Bay Entertainment
When this thriller premiered at Tribeca this past spring, Alison Willmore wrote, "the second film from writer/director Josh Sternfeld ("Winter Solstice") has ambitions reaching beyond being a straightforward police procedural," though critics, including her, were mixed about the end result. Nick Stahl and Rachel Nichols star as small-town sleuths who investigate a botched home invasion case that claims the life of a young child in an affluent community and enflames class divisions when the main suspects are from the poorer community nearby. Grace Gummer, Meryl Streep's second daughter to go into the family profession, makes her film debut.
