Sam Wilson faces a formidable new threat in his solo movie against mind-controlled super soldiers and a powerful telepathic villain. Without the Super Soldier Serum, Wilson is at a disadvantage against enemies like Isaiah Bradley and The Leader in Captain America: Brave New World. The confirmed cast for the movie, including Tim Blake Nelson, hints at high stakes and a compelling storyline for the new Captain America.
As Captain America: Brave New World approaches, there is a lot more reason to be concerned for Steve Rogers' Captain America replacement in the MCU. Captain America: Brave New World will be Sam Wilson's first solo movie and the first time that he appears on the big screen under the titular mantle once held by Wilson's friend, Steve Rogers. Captain America: Brave New World promises to explore the stories of new and canonical characters, including Isaiah Bradley, in the MCU. The absence of Bucky Barnes allows Sam Wilson to shine as he takes up the mantle of Captain America and reassembles the Avengers. Isaiah Bradley's tragic backstory and potential transformation into a formidable threat adds depth and complexity to the upcoming Captain America movie.

Marvel Studios, led by Kevin Feige, has been relatively quiet lately. But at CinemaCon 2024, they made a big splash by revealing several minutes of brand-new footage from one of their upcoming big-budget films. Not content to just tease the audience with Deadpool & Wolverine clips, Feige introduced Anthony Mackie to CinemaCon attendees to offer a sneak peek at Captain America: Brave New World.
Subsequently, Mackie, 45, took the stage to unveil the first look at the forthcoming movie directed by Julius Onah. Feige claimed the movie would be more “grounded” than the miniseries The Falcon and the Winter Soldier (2021).

The next Captain America movie is in the works with The Falcon and the Winter Soldier's Anthony Mackie taking on the mantle of the titular superhero. The film, Captain America: Brave New World, is still far off from its release, but new images have revealed a first official look at two of the movie's lead stars.
First published by Entertainment Weekly, there are two images that were shared publicly after the first footage was screened for attendees at CinemaCon. One image features a close look at Mackie at Sam Wilson, seemingly on guard as he brandishes the shield previously bestowed to him by the previous Captain America, Steve Rogers (Chris Evans). Another photo showcases Mackie's Sam Wilson facing off with Harrison Ford's Thaddeus "Thunderbolt" Ross. Ford takes over the role from the late William Hurt, who last appeared as the character in 2021's Black Widow. The images can be viewed below.

New-ish Cap, same old shield.
Anthony Mackie’s Sam Wilson steps into his own as the star-spangled Avenger in the first look at “Captain America: Brave New World” that Disney shared during its CinemaCon presentation on Thursday. It sees the newly-minted Captain America saving Harrison Ford’s Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross, the president of the United States, from a group of brain-washed assassins. The action-packed scene finds Wilson engaged in hand-to-hand combat, while dodging bullets as he desperately tries to rescue the leader of the free world from a daring attack on the White House.
The first look at the Marvel movie also showed Wilson getting an offer from Ross that he might not be able to refuse. “I want Captain America to help me rebuild the Avengers,” the President tells the patriotic superhero.
The sequel picks up after the events of the Disney+ streaming series, “The Falcon and the Winter Soldier.

Marvel Studios has been quiet for a little while, but Kevin Feige and company made a splash at CinemaCon 2024 by showing off several minutes of footage from one of their next big movies.
One of the most astonishing things about the 15-year-long cultural phenomenon of the Marvel Cinematic Universe is that they managed to get a mass audience to care about limp characters like Thor and Captain America. As a comics reader in the 1990s, I recall that those who read Thor and Captain America books were snickered at; the X-Men, Batman, Spider-Man, and the then-rising Image Comics characters were considered way cooler. Thanks to the MCU, however, Captain America (previously played by Chris Evans) was now hip, and his movie "Captain America: The Winter Soldier" is often vaunted -- rather debatably -- as one of the best films in the long-running series.

Kevin Feige and Anthony Mackie traveled to Las Vegas to introduce Captain America: Brave New World, the Marvel Studios movie that puts the actor in the starring role.
Feige called back to Captain America: The Winter Soldier as something fans still talk about, because it was a relatively grounded action thriller. He said Cap 4 would follow that tradition and showed a new clip.
Mackie has played hero Sam Wilson since 2014’s The Winter Soldier and appeared in multiple Marvel movies before headlining his own series, the Disney+ show Falcon and the Winter Soldier, which bowed in 2021. Only a few things are certain in life: death, taxes, and that the MCU will continue to press on. 2023 was a rough year for the franchise juggernaut with two of their three films underperforming. In need of a desperate reset, Marvel Studios has pushed the majority of their films back to allow more time to bring back the standard of consistently good films they were once known for. This is a much-needed shift in focus back to quality over quantity now that Disney isn't mandating them to push out as much content as possible, and could mark a whole new era for the universe.
With the MCU knee-deep in Phase 5, there are still many more huge movies coming soon that'll no doubt shake things up for the franchise. New characters are set to finally make their MCU debut, while familiar ones return and take center stage. While the slate of projects changes so often,...

Now, Mackie is taking on the mantle of Captain America in the upcoming theatrical tentpole “Captain America: Brave New World.”
While promoting his latest series “Twisted Metal” in the United Kingdom, Mackie compared the project to his experience making Marvel movies and told Radio Times there was a lot more storytelling freedom to be had outside of the MCU.
“I would say the Marvel thing is completely different, just because it’s such a space of controlled entertainment. Like, there’s only so much you can do,” Mackie observed. “There’s only so much creativity you can bring to the table, because Stan Lee gave us so much content.

Dennis Villeneuve’s Dune: Part Two is the hottest movie currently being shown in cinemas around the world. The sequel to the critically acclaimed, award-winning adaptation of Frank Herbert’s beloved sci-fi saga became a major hit, with both fans and critics agreeing that Villeneuve has made yet another masterpiece. The movie is just short of three hours long, but even with such a long runtime, many scenes had to be cut from the final version of the movie.
It has been known that popular fantasy and comic book actor Tim Blake Nelson was supposed to play a part in the movie, but as those who have seen the movie will know, Nelson was not in the final cut, which actually means that his scenes were ultimately cut from the movie. This has been confirmed by the actor himself.

Anthony Mackie has confirmed that Captain America 4 will not feature Sebastian Stan as Bucky Barnes. Bucky's absence in Captain America 4 makes his role in Thunderbolts more crucial as the latter needs to prove Bucky is a character that works outside the Captain America franchise. Thunderbolts is a good enough reason to have Bucky be absent from Captain America 4, with the continuation of Sam's story also meaning a new supporting cast for Cap makes sense.

Captain America: Brave New World star Anthony Mackie recently opened up about the creative challenges that come with starring in a Marvel Cinematic Universe project.
Speaking with RadioTimes.com, the actor, who portrays Sam Wilson/Falcon/Captain America in the MCU, explained how his Peacock series, Twisted Metal, offers more creative freedom than any Marvel project he has been part of in the past. "I would say the Marvel thing is completely different, just because it's such a space of controlled entertainment. Like, there's only so much you can do," Mackie said. The mantle of Captain America has been passed to Anthony Mackie’s Falcon, marking a new chapter in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). After inheriting the shield from Chris Evans’ Steve Rogers, Wilson’s journey as Captain America began in the 2021 series “Falcon and the Winter Soldier.”

There, he worked alongside some talented stars like Sebastian Stan (Bucky Barnes) and Daniel Brühl (Baron Zemo). As Marvel has forayed from the TV to the movies and will focus more on Captain America, there are fewer chances of these two actors making a bigger impact in the future. Thus, their absence will be felt, not only by fans but by Mackie as well.

The Falcon and the Winter Soldier found Sam Wilson (Anthony Mackie) teaming up with Bucky Barnes (Sebastian Stan) for a global adventure that tested their abilities and patience. The Disney+ series concluded with Wilson finally taking on the mantle of Captain America, setting the stage for Captain America: Brave New World. However, Mackie told RadioTimes that he’s a little disappointed that we won’t be getting season 2 of The Falcon and the Winter Soldier.
“The Falcon and [the] Winter Soldier, I really enjoyed doing that show,” Mackie said. “I was actually excited to do a second season, just so me and Sebastian [Stan] can get paid to hang out. Because it’s like me, him and Daniel Brühl. It’s kind of like the perfect storm of happiness… Anything I can do to hang out with Daniel, a dancing Daniel Brühl, makes me very happy.“

Captain America: Brave New World is going to be released on February 14, 2025, as things stand now as one of the first movies of the MCU’s Phase Five. The movie will star Anthony Mackie as the new Captain America, taking over from Steve Rogers, who was played by Chris Evans in the earlier movies. Now, while Mackie will be joined by some old and some new faces, it seems that MCU veterans Sebastian Stan and Daniel Brühl won’t be returning as Bucky Barnes and Baron Zemo, respectively. The news comes from a recent interview Mackie gave to RadioTimes.

Asleep in My Palm is a quiet but commanding, funny, and heartbreaking indie film that may have flown under your radar when it was released March 1st, but now that it's available on digital platforms and on demand, you have a chance to rectify that. Tim Blake Nelson is phenomenal as a protective father living with his teenage daughter in a storage unit, hustling for money however he can; we see him up all night in the cold, stealing bicycles and transporting them one at a time to the pick-up location. It's a fascinating portrait of someone living off the grid, perhaps an unreliable narrator, and what it's like to be a parent in a hostile world.
Nelson's son, Henry Nelson, actually wrote and directed the film in his feature directorial debut. However, it was never intended to have his illustrious father in it; Asleep in My Palm began much smaller than that,...

Based on Frank Herbert’s acclaimed novel, Denis Villeneuve’s Dune films have raked in commercial profits besides enamoring the viewers with a deft adaptation of a colossal source material. Previous efforts in getting the novel(s) brought to the big screen had rendered the premise largely unfilmable.
It’d be wrong to affirm, though, that all attempts to ‘film’ the saga fell short, as in 2000 and 2003, two three-part miniseries on the Sci-Fi Channel saw the triumphant adaptation of Herbert’s first three novels—a feat nothing short of remarkable.
Children of Dune (2003)
At the core of the second series, Frank Herbert’s Children of Dune, was a young, pre-breakout James McAvoy, who played Paul’s son Leto II Atreides. Ahead of Villeneuve’s first Dune film, reflecting on his experience as a part of the on-screen Dune ethos, McAvoy gushed about the filmmaker’s interpretation of the material.

The Marvel Cinematic Universe has thrilled and delighted comic book fans for many years and built up an incredible amount of hype. Particularly in the Infinity Saga, spanning Phases 1-3, the MCU delivered nonstop excitement and legendary movie moments, most of all with its core team of heroes. Few of the characters in its roster have benefited from the exposure, like Steve Rogers' Captain America, who has gone from a cheesy star-spangled comic hero to a true cinema icon thanks in part to a brilliant long-term performance from actor Chris Evans.
Captain America's story arc started fairly well with 2011's Captain America: The First Avenger and he has only gotten better from there. Captain America wasn't a costumed geek with a shield for long — he rose to prominence as the McU's most inspiring and hyped hero of all, and his dialogue, action scenes, and stellar acting have all made him highly compelling.

Captain America: Brave New World has the opportunity to solve major Multiverse Saga criticisms by reintroducing Marvel Comics' Civil War storyline. A potential revamp of the Civil War plot in the McU's Phase 5 could connect several separate Multiverse Saga projects and characters. Civil War in Captain America: Brave New World proves why the MCU needs Thunderbolts in Phase 5, and paves the way for the McU's X-Men reboot.

Tim Blake Nelson is returning as Samuel Sterns, a.k.a. the Leader, in Phase 5's upcoming Captain America: Brave New World. Though the fact that the great actor Tim Blake Nelson was recently cut from Denis Villeneuve’s staggering sci-fi vision Dune: Part Two was heartbreaking to hear as his deleted scenes will likely never see the light of the day, there is a solution to be found in his latest feature Deep in My Palm. Not only is this a film that is entirely built around the veteran performer for those who were looking for more of him on their screens, but it is also quite good. Sure, it doesn’t take place on a faraway planet with immense spectacle, but it still finds something magnificent in the power of a good performance. Even as it can be a little shaky narratively here and there, including in its ending that is a bit of a dodge, just seeing Nelson work is always worthwhile. Written and directed by the actor’s son,...

Director Jim Sheridan, speaking to ScreenDaily, said he still talks to Day-Lewis, but the actor isn’t interested in making another film.
“I’d love to do something with him again. He’s like everybody else, he opens up the streamers and there’s seven thousand choices, none of them are good. Film has been moved out of the public domain into a private domain – you have a remote,...

Denis Villeneuve is talking about the “painful choices” he has had to make for Dune: Part Two while adapting the book and cutting the film. Meanwhile, actor Tim Blake Nelson is expressing he’s “heartbroken” after he learned he was edited out of the film’s final cut that premiered to $182.5M worldwide.
The film Dune is based on the 1965 science fiction novel of the same name created by Frank Herbert. In adapting the book to the big screen, the filmmaker told EW, “When you adapt, there’s always some kind of violence toward the original material. You have to change things, you have to bend, you have to make painful choices.”
Some of those choices for the sequel included eliminating Stephen McKinley Henderson’s character. Henderson played Paul Atreides’ (Timothée Chalamet) mentor Thufir Haway who survives the massacre of House Atreides by House Harkonnen and continues to play a role in the book series.

Since the advent of DVDs and Blu-rays, extended cuts for movies have become pretty unanimous in Hollywood. These versions would often come with deleted scenes that were originally cut from the theatrical experience. However, this wasn’t the case with Denis Villeneuve’s Dune, which was released back in 2021, and unfortunately for fans, similar will be the case for the sequel.
Following Villeneuve’s decision to not incorporate what he gutted out from the theatrical version, fans now will never be able to live scenes of two characters, who didn’t make it to the final cut.

Denis Villeneuve Will Not Incorporate the Deleted Scenes in Dune 2‘s Physical Release
While Dune: Part 2 is turning out to be a huge hit, both critically and commercially, some were upset following the absence of Stephen Henderson’s Thufir Hawat. Although Henderson did film scenes for the film as Thufir Hawat,...

Actor Tim Blake Nelson had a mystery role in Dune: Part Two, only for his scenes to be excised from Denis Villeneuve’s final cut.
Denis Villeneuve’s swooning space epic Dune: Part Two takes in a quite staggering cast of characters, and much of the film’s marketing in the run up to its release has pivoted on an array of stars, including Timothee Chalamet, Zendaya, Florence Pugh, Austin Butler, and many more besides.
One name you won’t see in the credits, however, is Tim Blake Nelson, an actor known for his roles in – among other things – O Brother Where Art Thou and Nightmare Alley. According to Nelson, speaking to MovieWeb, he also had a role in Dune: Part Two, but the scene was left out of the final cut.
Nelson said that his character was left out because director Denis Villeneuve wanted to avoid making the film too long,...

“Dune: Part Two” features one of the starriest casts in recent memory. From Timothée Chalamet to Zendaya, Rebecca Ferguson, Josh Brolin, Austin Butler, Florence Pugh, Dave Bautista and more, there’s rarely a scene in the Denis Villeneuve-directed sequel that isn’t filled with star power. The cast was supposed to be even bigger, however, but the filmmaker had to make some cuts to the final edit that left at least one actor “heartbroken.”
Tim Blake Nelson, a regular of the Coen Brothers thanks to films such as “The Ballad of Buster Scruggs” and “O Brother, Where Art Thou?,” was announced as a cast member for “Dune: Part Two” in January 2023. He does not appear in the theatrical release.
“I don’t think I’m at liberty to say what the scene was,” Nelson recently told Movieweb about being cut out of the sequel. “I’d leave that to...
