When Pat O'Brien set out to write the story of his "big life" – his star-studded career in TV, the drinking that destroyed it and the four rehab trips it took to get sober – he wanted to be truthful. Brutally so.
"Most people try to sugar coat what happened and make their books a 'love me more' and 'here's what's next,' " the former CBS Sports, Access Hollywood and Insider broadcaster tells People of his new memoir, I'll Be Right Back After This.
"I've had such a big life and I almost died. Recovery has taught me to be honest about it.

An elevator incident that almost eclipses Solange-gate! Pat O'Brien claims in his memoir I'll Be Right Back After This that Angelina Jolie once told him in an elevator that she was "really horny" and on a manhunt after splitting from Billy Bob Thornton in 2002. In a snippet of the tell-all, obtained by the Daily Mail, the former Access Hollywood host claims the elevator run-in with Jolie occurred over a decade ago at Beverly Hills hotel L'Ermitage. Well, this is unexpected. Former host of Access Hollywood and The Insider Pat O'Brien has released his memoir, titled I'll Be Right Back After This, in which he details and, er, interesting encounter with Angelina Jolie that allegedly took place at the high-end Beverly Hills hotel L'Ermitage back in 2002. "I said, 'What's up baby?'" he recalled (according to the Daily Mail, which obtained excerpts of the memoir), claiming he rubbed elbows with the Oscar-winning actress in an elevator, at which point Angelina reportedly replied, "I'm trying to find this guy I kind of know because I'm really horny right now.'" Pat O'Brien, a guest columnist in the September 3 print edition of the Hollywood Reporter, wrote this column about Lindsay Lohan, whose movie "Machete" opened the same day. O'Brien recently joined Fox Sports Radio's "Loose Cannons" as co-host alongside Steve Hartman and Vic "The Brick" Jacobs. He is working on an autobiography due out next year.
Dear Lindsay:
Do us all a favor and take a snapshot of your life on this Friday, Sept. 3, 2010. By all accounts, you are reasonably healthy right now.
You are out of jail.
You've completed another rehab. Right now, people are buying tickets to your movie, "Machete," with a formidable Hollywood cast. And you grace the cover of the new Vanity Fair magazine, looking ever the movie star with all the accompanying door prizes and presents: beauty, happiness, confidence, youth and that "have it all" look that the woman you are channeling, Grace Kelly, possessed. This is all good.

During his years as host of the syndicated celebutainment series 'The Insider,' Pat O'Brien covered Hollywood comeback stories too numerous to mention. Now he's about to cover another comeback tale: his own.
Yes, according to The Hollywood Reporter, O'Brien, who has been floating around on the fringes of the entertainment world for two years since leaving 'The Insider' amidst controversy, finally has landed a new gig. And this time it's back where O'Brien first made his name -- the sports world -- as O'Brien will reportedly be joining the Fox Sports radio broadcast 'Loose Cannons.'
The title of the show, of course, will seem all too appropriate to fans who recall the infamous series of events that led to O'Brien's departure, which culminated in a drunken, sexually aggressive voicemail being leaked to the media.

Former "The Insider" star Pat O'Brien is going back into sports broadcasting.
Since quitting the syndicated entertainment news show two years ago, the CBS Sports veteran has filled in for Don Imus and appeared as a talking head on other shows.
Next week, he joins Steve Hartman and Vic "The Brick" Jacobs on Fox Sports Radio's "Loose Cannons" weekday afternoon show.

The leaks from Angelina Jolie's upcoming unauthorized biography are swelling into a full-blown gusher, but you wouldn't know that from the entertainment news shows.
Even as St. Martin's Press moved up the release date of Andrew Morton's "Angelina: An Unauthorized Biography" three days to Saturday, such syndicated shows as "Extra," "Access Hollywood," "Entertainment Tonight" and "The Insider" have maintained virtual silence on one of the celebrity world's hottest topics. And it's not like these programs shy away from celebrity controversy.
Smp publicity director John Murphy offers a theory: Entertainment news shows worried about losing access to Jolie or Brad Pitt -- both among Hollywood's biggest "gets" -- are being intimidated into ignoring the story.
"The fear that might have been imposed on these so-called entertainment news shows by the Brangelina PR machine has got them running scared from the story," Murphy said.

Disgraced U.S. TV personality Pat O'Brien is planning to lift the lid on his struggle with alcohol addiction in a new tell-all book.
The former news anchor has teamed with biographer Andrew Morton for the memoir, tentatively titled I Love Your Work.
The book will detail his "successful recovery" following a string of highly-publicised stints in rehab, the last of which followed his dismissal as co-presenter of celebrity news show The Insider in 2008.
O'Brien tells the New York Post he will also address his 2004 divorce from wife Linda, and “my unfortunate scandal", referring to a series of slurred sexually graphic messages left on the voicemail box of an undisclosed female following the couple's split.
He says: "Not many people know what it's like to be in the middle of a firestorm that is a scandal and the personal insights and collateral damage offer valuable lessons to everybody."
The memoir is scheduled to hit shelves next autumn.

"The Insider" rocked out with 'Swing Vote' star Kevin Costner and his band Modern West at a free concert this weekend in his hometown of Ventura -- and watching from the center of the crowd were his proud, motorcycle-riding parents! "They each take turns on the Harley," Kevin tells our own Pat O'Brien. "They're in their eighties, so what can I say -- there's hope for me." Kevin's 14-month-old son Cayden was absent from the festivities, however, but for good reason. "We just couldn't [bring him]," explains the veteran star. "I told you I play loud." As for more kids in the future with wife Chris, Kevin gets philosophical: "I know what the game is; it's [one decision that] every guy makes in the world -- you love these women, they end up telling you what the most important thing in the world to them is, and if it's children, then that's the direction you go.
