Three's a Crowd (1930). Opened on Broadway at the Selwyn Theatre on October 13th. A review conceived by Howard Dietz with sketches by
Fred Allen, Donald Blackwell, Laurence Schwab,
Groucho Marx, William B. Miles, Arthur Sheekman, and Hazel Flynn. Cast included:
Clifton Webb,
Libby Holman, Fred Allen,
Portland Hoffa Wally Coyle, Earl Oxford, Amy Revere, Marybeth Conoly, Harold Moffett, Tamara Geva, Margaret Lee, and the California Collegians (which included future star,
Fred MacMurray). Note: Show was one of the major Broadway hit of the 1930-31 season and is historically significant for inaugurating the use of balcony spotlighting over footlights. This technique would soon be universally adopted.
