Half a decade has passed since Lin-Manuel Miranda finished his Broadway run as the star of “Hamilton,” but the adulation for his work just keeps coming. The Tony-winning smash, which Miranda also wrote, experienced a surge in popularity after a filmed version featuring the entire original cast premiered on Disney+ last July. Miranda and six of his castmates have been recognized for their acting, which makes most of them part of an exclusive group of performers who have earned Tony and Emmy bids for the same role.
Just as they did at the 2016 Tonys, leading men Miranda and Leslie Odom Jr. face each other directly in this year’s Best Movie/Limited Actor Emmy race. Nominated for their supporting turns are Daveed Diggs, Renée Elise Goldsberry, Jonathan Groff, Anthony Ramos, and Phillipa Soo. Ramos is the only one to have not originally competed at the Tonys, as that slot was instead filled by Christopher Jackson.

Lin Manuel-Miranda’s Tony and Pulitzer Prize-winning musical “Hamilton” is a strong contender for multiple Emmy nominations including for Best Variety Special (Taped) and for performers Miranda, Leslie Odom Jr., Daveed Diggs, Philippa Soo, Jonathan Groff and Christopher Jackson. Filmed over three days at the Richard Rodgers Theatre on Broadway including two live performances in 2016, “Hamilton” premiered on July 4, 2020 on Disney + and was a real respite from the lack of live theater due to Covid-19. The acclaimed presentation has already received several honors including the Producers Guild Award, Critics Choice, Costume Designers Guild and Cinema Audio Society.
Though musicals have been popular on television since the earliest days of the medium, it’s rare that the original Broadway cast gets to reprise their roles such as Manuel and company did with “Hamilton.’ The first time was in 1955 when the cast of the hit Broadway musical “Peter Pan” reunited soon after...

On August 20, 2017, Jerry Lewis took a pratfall off this mortal coil, presumably knocking an unwitting dowager on her keister and sending a surprised cop into an open manhole on his way out. The durable enfant terrible was all of 91 years when he finally left the building though he had been making spirited public appearances as recently as January of this year.
For the inquisitive Jerry fan, Shawn Levy’s 1997 King of Comedy: The Life and Art of Jerry Lewis, remains the first and last stop for the straight scoop on America’s premiere nudnik. Levy, who endured the full fury of the comedian’s legendary wrath to get his story, is as admiring of his subject’s accomplishments as he was repelled by his whiplash mood swings. The hard knock apprenticeship in the Catskills, the Freudian-fueled soap opera of his partnership with Dean Martin, the boastful sex-capades, they’re all there and then some.

Today in 1991, the second Broadway revival of Peter Pan opened at the MInskoff Theatre, where it ran for 48 performances. Peter Pan is a musical adaptation of J. M. Barrie's 1904 play Peter Pan and Barrie's own novelization of it, Peter and Wendy. The music is mostly by Mark 'Moose' Charlap, with additional music by Jule Styne, and most of the lyrics were written by Carolyn Leigh, with additional lyrics by Betty Comden and Adolph Green. The original 1954 Broadway production, starring Mary Martin as Peter and Cyril Ritchard as Captain Hook, earned Tony Awards for both stars.

During our recent webcam chat (watch below), Allison Williams reveals she was introduced to the world of acting as a little girl when she watched a tape of the TV version of the musical "Peter Pan" with Broadway vet Mary Martin in the title role. When she saw that Captain Hook and Mr. Darling were both played by Cyril Ritchard, "it occured to me that that was a job you could have, that you could be that one human being that plays different people, puts on different costumes. So It was definitely part of what fueled me to become an actor. Because that just looked like the most fun in the world; as it is, I can now say.” -Break- On playing the boy who never grows up on "Peter Pan: Live," the actress admits, “It was the hardest I ever worked on anything, harder than getting into college… I...

“You are a traitor and I am the fucking CIA.” – Carrie Mathison
Have you been watching Homeland this season?
Homeland suffered not a sophomore slump but a jumpy junior year, which im-not-so-ho, admirably redeemed itself with the emotionally tortured final story arc of CIA agent Carrie Mathison (the magnificent Claire Danes) and her lover, the “almost” terrorist Marine Sergeant Nicholas Brody (the brilliant Damien Lewis), which left Carrie pregnant, Brody dead, and viewers wondering, “Where do they go from here?”
Well, where they went has been one brilliant roller-coaster ride.
The season four premiere was a two-hour feast of Carrie Mathison six months after the death of Brody, with the geography shifting from Kabul to Istanbul to Washington, D.C., as Carrie coped with a failed drone strike and the death of the CIA station chief in Istanbul at the hands of an angry mob.
Oh, and the reality of her (detached) motherhood,...

Anne Marie: Good evening, Lost Boys & Girls. Anne Marie here with the ever-youthful Margaret to live-blog NBC's Peter Pan Live! Or it would be live, but Los Angeles does everything on a delay, so instead it's a late-blog three hours after the original event began.
Margaret: Thank goodness they don't do this with the Oscars.
Anne Marie: A word on my credentials: Like millions of children, I was basically raised on the Mary Martin/Cyril Ritchard broadcast. Until I was six, I thought I was going to grow up to be Peter Pan. I've also been in it, designed for it, and seen the Cathy Rigby version (twice). Oh, and for actual credentials, I have a minor in theater and have stage managed in La for six years. I also liveblogged The Sound of Music Live! last year. This isn't my first trip to Neverland, is what I'm saying.

Last year, NBC had an unexpected hit in "The Sound of Music Live!", which got 18.82 million viewers live. Those are numbers very few shows get anymore. The show was a mess, admittedly. Carrie Underwood was wildly miscast as Maria, but America got a primetime look at Tony winners Laura Benanti, Audra McDonald, and Christian Borle do what they do best, and the three of them made the telecast worth watching. NBC, in an effort to repeat the success of last year, will be airing "Peter Pan Live!" on December 4th, starring Allison Williams (who I think is the best part of Girls) as the boy who won't grow up and Christopher Walken (who I think is the best part of everything) as his nemesis Captain Hook. The live event was given its first poster today. This is not the first time a live trip to Neverland will be on NBC,...

Whether you loved it or hated it, NBC's The Sound of Music Live was a big success. After 18.5 million people watched the three-hour event in December, Bob Greenblatt promised that similar shows were on their way and, on Sunday, the network announced its next musical telecast: a new version James M. Barrie's Peter Pan, with The Sound of Music Live's Craig Zadan and Neil Meron set to produce. (With a December 4, 2014 air date, casting for the project has been put "on a fast track.") This isn't the first time NBC has done a live broadcast of the classic story: Sixty-five million viewers tuned in for a production starring Mary Martin as Peter and Cyril Ritchard as Captain Hook in 1955. While it won't be possible to recreate those exact numbers nearly 60 years later, NBC can probably still count on a big turnout.

It doesn’t come as a huge surprise to discover horror movie-lovers Alice Cooper and Tim Burton had plenty to talk about when the rocker turned up to film a cameo in the director’s new, Johnny Depp-starring movie Dark Shadows. “We had dinner one night in London and we both knew every point of reference,” Cooper recalls. “If he would say, ‘Suspiria’ I would say ‘Dario Argento.’ I see the humor in horror as much as Tim or Johnny does, so we really do fit together.”

As fan favorite Tom Levitt on NBC’s musical dramedy Smash, Christian Borle is one of a handful of Broadway veterans lending real theatre experience to the much-buzzed about freshman show. Borle’s a true Broadway native with an impressive history of originating roles, including memorable turns in Monty Python’s Spamalot and Legally Blonde (which earned him a Tony Award nomination in 2007).
Presently, he’s Broadway’s golden boy, balancing an exciting gig on Smash with his leading role as Peter Pan’s scenery-chewing adversary Black Stache in Peter and the Starcatcher, which opened on April 15 to positive reviews.
