Showtime
There is so much happening in Showtime now streaming on Disney+Hotstar, sometimes all in a bunch, that the end product about the rangmanch that’s showbiz leaves us with a lot to munch but nothing really to chew on.
Produced by Karan Johar’s Dharmatics, Showtime ingests some enticing energy and a vestige of vigour in its vinegary plot. But some of the vital plot points are hard to digest—for instance, a young television film critic makes bold to trash a big budget movie after being bribed and the producer hands over his production house for her to run. Wow!
Aisa sirf cinema mein hota hai. Don’t look for signs of real-life Bollywood personalities here. This is not Jubilee. It is a jubilant saucy tongue-in-cheek peep into showbiz shenanigans. The screenplay does’t dig deep into the dirt. It scratches the surface and gives us no real-life references.

It appears that the ‘Bollywood’ storytellers have run out of stories to tell. So, they decided to become a story themselves. However, it is not that people are absolutely amused to hear these stories. Mind you, in this digital age with countless media houses coupled with even more social media journalism, nothing seems to be real as well as unreal. We know most of it and we assume the rest of it. The real ‘behind the scenes’ does not actually exist.
With Showtime, the audience longing to know more about what goes on behind the closed doors of Bollywood seems to be answered. So, dive deep into the tales of Bollywood – the money, the business, the glamour, the relationships, the lifestyle, the inside scoop on all of Bollywood’s best-kept secrets.

Actor Emraan Hashmi, who is gearing up for his upcoming streaming series ‘Showtime’, feels that he is not fit to be a producer. The actor shared that he has only produced one film so far in his career but there too he was more of a “silent producer” as he was acting in it as well. The film in question is the 2019 film ‘Why Cheat India’. The actor confessed that he is more of a creative person than a finance-related one.
“I don’t think I’m fit to be a producer. I did produce one film, but I was more of a silent producer and was playing the actor also in it, so my producer self took a backseat. I am a more creative person than a business-minded person. I got a commerce degree, but there’s a running joke in my family that I wanted to be in arts,...

Actress Shriya Saran has given her two cents on the topic of nepotism and said that even Bollywood star Shah Rukh Khan was an outsider when he entered the industry.
Talking about the insider-outsider debate, Shriya said: “Everybody was an outsider once — even Shahrukh Khan was an outsider when he entered the industry. Things are changing immensely now and it’ll only keep changing as long as the debate is healthy.”
“However, what really needs to change is that there should be more screen tests for everyone. Every production should have an easier and simpler way of screen testing, so that it opens many doors for all people.”
Shriya will next be seen in ‘Showtime’, which also stars Emraan Hashmi, Mahima Makwana with Mouni Roy, Rajeev Khandelwal, Vishal Vashishtha, Neeraj Madhav, Vijay Raaz and Naseeruddin Shah.
