A group of screenwriters including Eli Roth, Graham Yost and Amy Chozick have issued an open letter decrying the Writers Guild of America’s silence on last week’s Hamas terrorist attacks in Israel.
In the letter, posted to the blog site Medium, the screenwriters mention the statements already issued by other Hollywood guilds, including SAG-AFTRA and the directors’ guild.
“When it comes to taking a stand, the Writers Guild of America has always led by example,” the statement said. “When employers sought to exploit our work, the Guild bravely spoke up. When the BLM movement took flight, the Guild rightfully spoke up. When the #MeToo reckoning came and Hollywood needed to change, again the Guild spoke up. But when terrorists invaded Israel to murder, rape, and kidnap Jews… the Guild stayed silent. It remains the only major Hollywood union to do so.”

The dating scene is tough at the United Nations. All those diplomats with immunity and international non-disclosure agreements get in the way of things. In Amblin Entertainment’s upcoming sci-fi romance Intelligent Life, one man finds extraterrestrial love in the heart of the global community. Austin Powers and Meet the Parents director Jay Roach is in talks to rewrite the screenplay for the film, and there's a good chance he's going to direct it too. Roach will do the rewrite with Larry Stuckey.
Intelligent Life is about a United Nations employee chosen to represent humankind. He trolls the interstellar singles scene but ends up falling in love with an alien.
The idea comes from Jurassic World writers Colin Trevorrow and Derek Connolly, who wrote the original script about. Intelligent Life was originally...

It’s a question heard throughout many homes during the holiday season. No, not “Who spiked the eggnog with lighter fuel?” We’re talking about the big man himself, Santa Claus, and whether or not he truly exists. I’m still out on this one, but it seems that one filmmaker firmly believes in Saint Nicholas. The Perks Of Being A Wallflower writer-director, Stephen Chbosky, has signed up to helm the festival family romp Santa Is Real, which will also double as a musical to add a dose of extra holiday jollies!
Walden Media and New Regency are behind the pic, which is based on the upcoming novel Santa Claus Is for Real: A True Christmas Fable About the Magic of Believing, by Charles E. Hall and Bret Witter. Hollywood studios have long realized the potential for making money with animated films, and we seem to be in a transitional period with DreamWorks Animation moving from Paramount to 20th Century Fox, Paramount building their own animation unit, and Warner Bros. just starting up a new creative think tank for properties of its own. Illumination Entertainment has already made quite a splash in the industry, teaming with Universal Pictures for Despicable Me, The Lorax, and more. Now they'll add Uglydoll to their growing slate of projects, hoping to capitalize on the pre-existing fandom with a more digital approach. A press release says that Illumination Entertainment founder Chris Meledandri will produce Uglydoll, written by Larry Stuckey (Little Fockers) and based on the successful property created by husband and wife team David Horvath and Sun-Min Kim. It began as a plush doll of a character Horvath created in 2001, and soon sprang into...

Palomar Pictures are developing remakes of last year's French heist movie "Joseph and the Girl" and the 2001 Norwegian film "Elling" reports Variety.
The original 'Joseph' follows an aging con artist who plots a casino heist with the daughter of his former cellmate.
"Killer Elite" director Gary McKendry is helming and co-writing 'Joseph' with Matt Sherring. Shooting will begin in March.
"Elliot", the remake of 'Elling', is based on Ingvar Ambjornsen‘s novel “Blood Brothers” which follows a man in his 40s and his struggle to function normally in society.
Jay Roach, Larry Stuckey and Tom McCarthy are all having a crack at the script.

One of the Stephen King novels to elude the forces of film adaptation has been Rose Madder, which combines phantasmagoric fantasy and spousal abuse in a way that is very characteristically King, and seemingly rather difficult to put on the screen. That is changing now, as the 1995 novel is part of a trio of film projects announced at the American Film Market by Palomar Pictures (Brothers, Killer Elite) and Gosvenor Park. The companies will team to remake French heist movie Joseph and the Girl, Norwegian film Elling, and to bring Rose Madder to the screen. Variety [1] says that Naomi Sheridan (co-writer of In America and daughter of director Jim Sheridan) has scripted Rose Madder and that the film is targeted to shoot within the next year and half. Rose Madder follows a woman who leaves her evilly abusive husband after years of being beaten. She sets up a new life...

Since graduation is upon us, career paths and futures are on the minds of high schoolers. You probably already know that continuing your education is vital to a successful career, but what you may not realize is that Relationships can be even more important. "Relationships" (meaning the ability to meet people, make an impression and if need be turn that into a job) often trump qualifications, education and prior success.
Relationships are extremely important to success in the entertainment industry, an industry where there are literally multiple parties every single day and where people's jobs are often dependent on attending parties (where they will work by building relationships).
I'm inspired to tell you this because of some recent news. Jay Roach, the producer-director behind the Meet the Fockers movies and the Austin Powers movies, will be making a new "family" film for Universal about an adventurous couple who settle down...

Universal is currently working on three projects, two of which don't exactly interest us and a third which, if done properly, could be incredibly entertaining. The first film will be produced by Jay Roach (“Meet the Parents,” “Game Change”) and will be written by “Little Fockers” scribe Larry Stuckey. Universal Pictures has picked up a movie pitch for a untitled family adventure film. Little Fockers screenwriter Larry Stuckey pitched the film, and will write the script. Jay Roach (Little Fockers, Meet the Parents, Borat, Bruno) will produce the film, and Dean Parisot (Fun With Dick and Jane) is attached to direct the comedy.
The story revolves around a man and a woman who put aside their adventurous days in order to have a family. When the man finds his life a bit routine, he can't resist going off in search of a long-buried, fabled icon, convincing his family they're merely going on vacation.
Looking at the people developing this film, I can't help but think this is going to turn out being a very mediocre film.

The Uglydoll line of products started out as those, well, ugly plush toys that became a hit with adults, kids and even pets. (Don't act like you've never given your dog an Uglydoll to gnaw on!)
Now they're getting their own feature film, courtesy of uber-producer Chris Meledandri. Illumination Entertainment, which was founded by Meledandri, released the Universal hit "Despicable Me," as well as "Hop" and the upcoming adaptation of Dr. Seuss' "The Lorax."
Meledandri is clearly a fan of the dolls.
"They are simple in design, expressive in personality, and once I got to know David [Horvath] and Sun-Min [Kim], I learned there was a mythology and a world behind this, he told Deadline. "The characters have a cult following, and they've been very restrictive in where and how they've sold them. It has been a small cottage industry, but it seems just right for us in terms of the potential for a growth curve.

If you've been to a small, independent toy store in the past decade or so, you probably recognize Uglydolls. Created by husband and wife team David Horvath and Sun-Min Kim, the expertly crafted, yet incredibly simple plush dolls are extremely popular because of their unique design and individual character backstories. They're both collectible and accessible to all ages. And while Horvath and Kim have kept the property rights relatively limited - only extending into other retail venues like games, toys, apparel, etc - they've now sold the rights to have their creations made into a feature film. Illumination Entertainment, the company behind Despicable Me and Hop, have nabbed the rights to Uglydoll with an eye on making it a full-length, animated movie. Chicago – “Little Fockers” would have been high on my “Worst of 2010” list if I had written one or suffered through it in theaters. It’s an awful disaster of a movie, completely devoid of laughs and downright embarrassing for everyone involved, including some incredibly talented actors. There should be some sort of atonement or movie prison for forcing this junk on families at the holiday season. It’s like getting coal for Christmas. Actually, it’s worse than coal.
Blu-Ray Rating: 0.5/5.0
“Little Fockers” is not just completely devoid of laughs, it’s baffling that anyone this talented thought otherwise. It makes one wonder if it’s not some sort of massive piece of performance art on the part of the clearly-intelligent Ben Stiller — What’s the worst comedy that I could possibly make and still get people to the theaters for a sequel at the holiday season? “Little Fockers” made...

As predictable as the Oscars are, I think we can all agree that the Razzies are even more predictable. And as much as it pains me to post this, somehow Hollywood's big awards weekend does not feel complete without also acknowledging some of the lesser achievements in filmmaking from 2010. M. Night Shyamalan's The Last Airbender and Sex and the City 2 dominated the voting, with Ashton Kutcher and Jessica Alba also getting singled out for their crimes against cinema. I still don't think The Last Airbender is anywhere close to being the worst movie of the year, but apparently I am in the minority. Check out the full list of Golden Raspberry winners after the jump. Worst Picture The Bounty Hunter The Last Airbender Sex & the City 2 Twilight Saga: Eclipse Vampires Suck! The press screening I attended last summer for M Night Shyamalan’s dreadful The Last Airbender was special. I’d never heard so much laughter in my life. But Airbender isn’t meant to be funny. Unfortunately when ever characters said ‘bender’ in the film, the place erupted into howls – no, gales – of laughter.
Then we all sat through a press conference where M Night Shyamalan talked bollocks for thirty minutes. The annual Razzie awards have been announced in a ceremony across the pond and Shyamalan won big! So did Sex and the City 2. That was a movie that made me question my whole existence. Sitting through two hours and twenty minutes was a punishment undeserved.
Below is a list of this years illustrious nominees and winners. I don’t agree with Jessica Alba’s win at all, or Ashton Kutcher’s, for that matter. And picking on Twilight is beyond boring.

This would hurt M. Night Shyamalan's supposed big ego. The director has been given the not-quite dubious achievement of having helmed a film that's considered the worst of 2010. Shyamalan's "The Last Airbender" dominated the 31st annual Razzie Awards winning (or is it losing?) Worst Picture, Worst Director for Shyamalan, Worst Screenplay, Worst Supporting Actor for Jackson Rathbone, and Worst Eye-Gouging Mis-Use of 3-D!
And then the ladies of "Sex and the City 2" must console each other for their sequel (which I thought was actually better than the first) also won multiple "Worsts" such as Worst Actress (all four of them!), Worst Screen Couple/Ensemble, and Worst Sequel.
"Twilight Saga: Eclipse" and "Jonah Hex" remain unscathed by the Razzies. But is "The Last Airbender" really worse than "Vampires Suck" which also remain largely unharmed? Really?

M. Night Shyamalan's "The Last Airbender" topped the 31st annual Razzie Awards, which always takes place the night before the Oscars and recognize the worst achievements in film of the past year. "Airbender" was named Worst Picture, and was victorious in a new category, Worst Eye-Gouging Mis-Use of 3D. In addition, the movie won for Worst Director, Worst Screenplay and Worst Supporting Actor for Jackson Rathbone, who also appeared in Razzie-nominated film, "The Twilight Saga: Eclipse." "Sex and the City 2" was also a big winner at the Razzies. Sarah Jessica Parker took home the prize for Worst Actress, while the ensemble cast earned Worst Screen Ensemble/Worst Screen Couple. "Sex and the City 2" was named Worst Sequel. Ashton Kutcher earned the Worst Actor nod for "Killers" and "Valentine's Day," while Jessica Alba won for Worst Supporting Actress for her work in "Little Fockers," "Machete," "The Killer Inside Me" and "Valentine's Day.

It's that time of the year again, when the best and brightest of Hollywood and beyond assemble to honor the greatest in cinematic achievement with those prized little golden statues of peer admiration. But before we can get to all that, another esteemed organization has its day (the day before, to be exact) to call out the laziest, most witless, and most artlessly-hollow film releases of the year. Tonight, the 31st annual Golden Raspberry award winners were announced, 'honoring' the worst in film directing, acting, and production.
The biggest 'loser' of the night was undoubtedly The Last Airbender, which took home five small gold-painted raspberry statuettes, including Worst Picture and Worst Director for M. Night Shyamalan. Perhaps making up for bestowing only a handful of nominations, but no wins, on Shyamalan's dreadful The Happening in 2008, the Golden Raspberry Award Foundation may have hammered the final nail in Shyamalan's credibility coffin,...

This year's Academy Award nominees are currently being announced as I write this, but yesterday the Razzies unveiled their full list of nominees as well. This is the annual celebration of "the worst that Hollywood has to offer", although over the past few years it has become increasingly clear that they only pick on movies and celebrities that are already easy targets. As you might expect, this year The Twilight Saga: Eclipse and M. Night Shyamalan's The Last Airbender led the way with 9 nominations each. Somehow it does seem a bit ironic that a Twilight movie is nominated in the same year as the Twilight parody Vampires Suck. If they love making fun of Twilight so much, you'd think the folks from the Razzies would have loved it! Also, poor Rob Schneider... why is he the only one that gets called out from Grown Ups? So predictable. Do you agree with this year's nominees,...

I have something important to tell you now – Razzie announced their nominations.
And guess what, huh, that was the secret until now, but The Twilight Saga: Eclipse, The Last Airbender and Sex & the City 2 each received multiple nominations today. You must be surprised.
Also, honoured were Ashton Kutcher, Jack Black, Gerard Butler, Jennifer Aniston, Cher, Liza Minnelli, Barbra Streisand etc. etc. but Ok, I understand, the Razzie also must be interesting.
So, we all know everything is about entertainement…but honestly, this is a little boring.
This is not a fight against bad movies and acting. So, do something about that if you can…if somebody can…
We all know what people are waiting for – to see will some of all these stars show up at this prestigious Movie Awards ceremony, like Sandra Bullock did last year.

It’s awards season once again, but before you start getting all excited about the Academy Awards nominations (due to be announced later today) there’s one more awards ceremony of note worth considering – The Golden Raspberry Awards.
Yes, the awards ceremony which celebrates the best of the bad is back once again with a scathing nominations list likely to set your taste buds on fire ladies and gentlemen – and top of that list are The Last Airbender and The Twilight Saga: Eclipse which jointly hold nine nominations each, including Worst Picture.
The Golden Raspberry Awards, more affectionately known as The Razzies for short, were first introduced by American copywriter and publicist John J.B. Wilson in 1981. Continuing on till this day, they have ever been both a source of fun and frustration for industry insiders, including such famous recipients as Halle Berry and Sandra Bullock – both of whom turned up...

If it's the day before the Oscar nominations, then it's also the day that we learn which movies and actors are up for the very worst award in filmmaking: the Razzie.
Today the nominees for the 31st Annual Razzie Awards were announced. Celebrating the very worst of the past year of mainstream cinema, the Razzies are where the most unoriginal premises, the stinkiest performances and the most hated films of the year get roasted. Last year when Sandra Bullock "won" the Razzie for Worst Female Performance she showed up to collect it. The very next day she won an Oscar for Best Actress. That shows you just how surreal the world of Hollywood movies has gotten.
The winners of the 2011 Razzies will be revealed on Saturday, February 26, 2011 at the Barnsdall Gallery Theater in Los Angeles. Oooo. Sounds classy! I wonder if they will have valet service?

The 2011 Academy Award nominations will be announced tomorrow (Tuesday) morning, mere hours from now. But before we take a look at the very best movies and performances in 2010, let us recall the worst, as per tradition, with the annual nominations for the Golden Raspberry Awards (or Razzies).
M. Night Shyamalan’s The Last Airbender and David Slade’s The Twilight Saga: Eclipse lead the “honorees” with nine nominations apiece and were included in the “Worst Picture” category alongside The Bounty Hunter, Sex and the City 2, and Vampires Suck. It must be a tight race for the year’s worst, especially since Little Fockers managed to escape the bottom five.

Well its that time of the month, and the final nominees for the Golden Raspberry awards have arrived. And like I predicted, It looks like Twilight will be winning big! Really last year was a bit of a disappointment in general, aside from the odd exception like Inception, and last year's favorite Toy Story 3 -- the pickings where slim, but not for the Razzies!
It's almost fitting for the Razzies to announce the nominees today, because as you know, the Academy Awards will be publishing theirs the very next morning -- so you get double the trouble. Aside from the lack of great films last year, some did, however, relish them -- and those people are behind the Razzie awards.
These are the people who read our thoughts, and disperse dishonors with a smile on their face -- I would love to say the same for the recipients! Thanks...

Every year before the Oscars nominations are revealed, the Razzie Awards announce their nominees for the worst in Hollywood. And this year, sequels, remakes and rip-off dominate. "Razzie repeat offender M. Night Shyamalan 're-imagined' the faux-anime TV series 'The Last Airbender' into a jumbled mess of a movie that fans of the TV show hated even more than critics did (if that's even possible!)," the statement read. "In addition to Worst Director and Worst Picture, the film is up for Worst Remake, Worst Screenplay, Worst Screen Couple/Ensemble (the entire cast) and a brand-new Razzie category for 2010, Worst Eye-Gouging Mis-Use of 3-D." "Twilight Saga: Eclipse" also received 9 nominations. All three of the principal characters of 'Eclipse' are individually nominated for their acting, and the entire cast is also up for Worst Screen Ensemble. Check out the nominees below. The winners will be announced on Saturday, February 26th.

In always apt fashion (a.k.a the day before the Oscar nom announcements), the Golden Raspberry Foundation have found this to be a suitable time to release the nominations to the 2010 Razzie Nominations. General consensus? They hate The Last Airbender, think Sex and the City 2 is a piece of crap, and despise The Bounty Hunter to no end. What's new? Check out the nominations, along with some quick commentary, after the break.

As Hollywood prepares for the Oscar nominations tomorrow, the film industry braces for another big award event, only this time, it's for the worst of the worst!
The Razzie Award nominations are out, and the nods are full of the usual suspects. M. Night Shyamalan's "The Last Airbender" and "The Twilight Saga: Eclipse" received the most nominations, nine nods apiece including Worst Picture of the year!
These films are easy targets and I thought David Slade's "Eclipse" was the best film of the franchise. I guess I was wrong.
Both "Airbender" and "Eclipse" will compete against "The Bounty Hunter," "Sex & The City 2," and "Vampires Suck" for worst achievement in film.
The winners, or should we say losers, will be revealed on February 26, the night before the Academy Awards! Remember Sandra Bullock last year? She was the Worst Actress for "All About Steve," and then, swept Hollywood off its...

More entertaining, usually more accurate and potentially more important to a film star’s career – The Golden Raspberry Foundation have once again revealed their annual Razzie nominations just a day before the Oscar equivalents are announced tomorrow.
The Razzies of course nominate ‘the worst in film’ and each year are increasingly made up of excruciatingly bad chick-flicks and mindless CGI vehicles. The class of 2010 then includes Sex and the City 2 and Vampires Suck, easy but no less accurate choices, leading the way with nominations in most categories, including Worst Picture.
My personal picks for each category are starred. Vampires Suck was easily the worst film of the year but a win for Sex and the City 2 would be more useful as it might be the embarrassing award that stops the middle-aged cast coming back for a third role of the dice.
