On the morning of January 23, 2024, actor Gary Graham, star of the "Alien Nation" TV series, the cult classic "Robot Jox," and multiple-time "Star Trek" supporting player, passed away at the age of 74. Graham had a prolific acting career, appearing in single episodes of many of the hottest TV shows of his day, including "Starsky & Hutch," "The Incredible Hulk," Knots Landing," "CHiPs," "T.J. Hooker," "Hunter," "M.A.N.T.I.S.," "Diagnosis Murder," "Ally McBeal," "Jag," and "Nip/Tuck." He had an easy demeanor, allowing him to play comedic affable characters just as well as intense, serious ones.
Trekkies likely know Graham best for playing Soval on "Star Trek: Enterprise." Soval was the snippy Vulcan ambassador who oversaw Earth's very, very slow transition from post-war ruin to a thriving society ready for space exploration. In the timeline of "Star Trek," humanity discovers warp-speed flight while the world is recovering from nuclear devastation. On the very first Earth warp flight,...

In the pilot episode of "Star Trek: Voyager," called "Caretaker", Captain Janeway (Kate Mulgrew) went to a Federation penal facility to talk to Tom Paris (Robert Duncan McNeill), once a pilot for the illegal group of Federation separatists called the Maquis. Captain Janeway, you see, needed an observer and former Maquis member to help her track down other members of the organization -- currently hiding in a dangerous part of space called the Badlands -- as part of her first mission commanding the U.S.S. Voyager. Tom Paris had little to lose, even though he wasn't particularly fond of Starfleet. This author once attended a "Star Trek" convention where some of the "Voyager" showrunners admitted that McNeill was hired largely to provide sex appeal to the show; he was to be its "bad boy."

This article contains spoilers for the latest episode of "Star Trek: Lower Decks."
The koala is something of a running gag on "Lower Decks," going back to the first season episode "Moist Vessel". In that episode, an officer named Lieutenant O'Connor (Haley Joel Osment) invites Ensign Tendi (Noël Wells) to witness the end of a years-long spiritual journey and see him ascend into a higher being. Sadly, Tendi drops O'Connor's ritual gong during his crucial, final ritual and ruins his mandala to catch it. His ascension is stymied. Tendi will spend the bulk of the episode attempting to get back into O'Connor's good graces, something that annoys him immensely. He wanted to be seen as the only "spirituality guy" on the ship, and now that status is ruined.
Later on in the episode, however, O'Connor does end up ascending in the middle of a crisis and somewhat by accident. In a corridor,...

This post contains spoilers for the season 4 premiere of "Star Trek: Lower Decks."
The first episode of the fourth season of "Star Trek: Lower Decks," called "Twovix," plunges Trekkies straight into a cauldron of "Star Trek: Voyager" references. It's as if the writers had been saving up all their "Voyager" jokes and, golly, just couldn't stand holding back any longer. Fans of Captain Janeway and her famous, decades-old vessel will have a bloody field day spotting all the references to particular 1990s episodes, and seeing the hallways and bridge of the U.S.S. Voyager realized in animation will certainly provide a thrill. The makers of "Lower Decks" even threw in a few notable notes from Jerry Goldsmith's orchestral theme song, and cast "Voyager" actor Ethan Phillips in a notable supporting role. Those "Voyager" fans are of an intrepid class.

There is a scene in the first episode of the fourth season of "Star Trek: Lower Decks" -- called "Twovix" -- wherein the crew of the U.S.S. Cerritos has to transport the now-decommissioned U.S.S. Voyager to a museum site. The ship, it seems, has been transformed into a museum, complete with bizarre on-board exhibits, including one devoted to the time Tom Paris (Robert Duncan McNeill) and Captain Janeway (Kate Mulgrew) surpassed Warp 10 and evolved into salamanders. On the bridge of the Voyager, there are mannequins of the ship's original crew, each wearing their actual duty uniforms.
Ensign Boimler (Jack Quaid), while setting up the diorama, nearly drops a mannequin of Harry Kim (Garrett Wang), the Voyager character who notoriously stayed an ensign for seven straight years without a promotion. On a show where Boimler geeks out about legendary "Star Trek" characters, it's notable that he says nothing of Harry Kim.

This post contains spoilers for the "Star Trek: Picard" series finale.
In the "Star Trek: Voyager" episode titled "Timeless", Chakotay (Robert Beltran) and Harry Kim (Garrett Wang) found themselves lost in an alternate future after the destruction of their ship. It seems that 15 years before, the Voyager was tinkering with something called a quantum slipstream when the experiment went wrong and the entire starship crashed, killing almost everyone. Chakotay and Kim endeavor to steal a time-altering widget that would allow them to restore the past as it was. In stealing said widget, however, they are pursued by a Federation starship. This article contains spoilers for the series finale of "Star Trek: Picard."
The acclaimed final season of "Star Trek: Picard" has come to a stirring and satisfying end — and, with it, the conclusion to the decades-long journey of Patrick Stewart's Jean-Luc Picard and the rest of the beloved crew of explorers from "The Next Generation." But part of the difficult task laid on the shoulders of showrunner and director Terry Matalas involved uniting multiple different shows set around the same time period. That meant tying together loose threads from "Deep Space Nine" like the Changelings, long-missing members of "The Next Generation" such as Ro Laren (Michelle Forbes), and characters from "Star Trek: Voyager" including Tuvok (Tim Russ) and Jeri Ryan's Seven of Nine.
By the end of the finale, the dual threat of the Borg and the Changelings are vanquished once more and seemingly for good. Pulling off...

There are casual TV fans – the kind of people who are occasionally reminded of an old favorite show and fondly think ‘I used to love that’ but then get back on with wood-staining the garden fence, filling in their tax return or whatever demands adult life is currently making of them – and then there are the TV fans who don’t need reminding of their old favorite shows because they’re currently midway through their fifth Battlestar Galactica go-around while moderating several BSG r/television subreddits and crocheting a replica Saul Tigh eye patch.
The TV rewatch podcast is here for both types of listener – they’re a fun whoosh of nostalgia for the first, and the chance to finally get behind-the-scenes answers to burning questions for the second. Most of all, they’re a good time in the company of pals and a great excuse to revisit an old favorite.

One of the great pleasures of the new season of "Star Trek: Picard" has been the introduction of Captain Liam Shaw (Todd Stashwick), the hard-nosed commander of the U.S.S. Titan-a. While many of the previous captains on "Star Trek" have been approachable or at least diplomatic, Captain Shaw is an unapologetic jerkwad. Previously an engineer, Shaw prefers order and adheres to rules, refusing to bend them -- even a little bit -- for visiting dignitaries like Picard (Patrick Stewart). He inherited the Titan from Captain Riker (Jonathan Frakes), who left his vast collection of jazz records on the ship's computer. In what might amount to an act of terrorism, Captain Shaw deleted all of the Titan's jazz. He also disrespects his first officer, Seven of Nine (Jeri Ryan), and happily calls Starfleet security when Seven, Riker, and Picard hijack his ship. He is brusque and even rude. He is an awesome character.

Each "Star Trek" show is, despite its tendency to focus on starship and space station captains, an ensemble drama. Each series (the first two seasons of "Picard" notwithstanding) is about the workplace dynamic on board a space vessel, with characters of different backgrounds and personalities working together to solve crises. The characters may occasionally butt heads, but "Star Trek" creator Gene Roddenberry (in)famously discouraged that sort of conflict, preferring to depict a future where everyone got along, or at least treated each other with professional respect.
The group dynamic of "Star Trek," however, occasionally led to a perhaps-unconscious reliance on certain archetypes. Each Trek show, for the most part, features Stalwart Captain, Approachable Guy, Sensitive Soul, Culture Shock Alien, The Muscle, The Broody Outsider, Impatient Weirdo, Nerdy Tech-Head, and Inexperienced Noob. These broad "types" could alternately be combined into a single character or spread among many, but one can...

When "Star Trek: Voyager" premiered on Monday, January 16, 1995, it didn't just mark the launch of the fourth live-action "Star Trek" series. Its broadcast also marked the launch of Upn, Paramount's stab at establishing a fifth American television network after CBS, NBC, ABC, and Fox.
Picking "Voyager" for this important corporate duty was, to borrow a phrase, flawlessly logical. At the time, executives at Paramount saw the 1960s science fiction program and its spin-offs as so important to the studio that they reportedly referred to it as "the franchise." Indeed, with "Star Trek: Deep Space Nine" in the midst of its third successful season in first-run syndication and "Star Trek: The Next Generation" having made the jump to the big screen with the box office success of "Star Trek Generations," the "Star Trek" franchise was at an all-time high.

The first three seasons of "Star Trek: Voyager" were a little rocky. While the series started strong in 1995 — it was the flagship series on The Upn, a brand new network at the time — it struggled to attain the same ratings as "Star Trek: The Next Generation" and its contemporaneous sibling "Star Trek: Deep Space Nine." In the third season, the showrunners added a holodeck beach resort to the show to presumably increase its sex appeal, offering more opportunities for cocktails, flirting, and actors in swimsuits. By the end of the third season, the showrunners still needed something to jazz up "Voyager," and...

Though "Star Trek: Voyager" isn't held in quite as high esteem as some of its fellow "Star Trek" series, it still contains a number of episodes that are worth watching. Who could forget season 3's "The Chute," which featured Bff's Harry Kim (Garrett Wang) and Tom Paris (Robert Duncan McNeill) working together to survive an alien prison? Or the emotional series finale "Endgame," which crosses time and space to bring the crew of the Voyager back to Earth?

The Smallville cast reflected on their time on set during their virtual New York Comic Con panel Saturday morning. Their reunion marks almost a decade since the show’s end on The CW.
The panel was moderated by Garrett Wang (Star Trek: Voyager) and joined by lead Tom Welling (Clark Kent), Michael Rosenbaum (Lex Luthor), Sam Witwer (Davis Bloome) and Laura Vandervoort (Kara).
Rosenbaum revealed he was ready to explode by the seventh season. He mentioned close to the end of his run on Smallville that he got tired of playing the same character and offered Tom’s idea on what would have been a special episode.
“I didn’t want to stretch it out [but] I felt like you have to. Tom always says how great the episode would’ve been if I got his powers and he got my brains. That would’ve been an awesome episode because we...

How big of a mess would it have been had Garrett Wang, a Star Trek actor, actually hit Harrison Ford? The constant bickering back and forth between Star Trek and Star Wars fans is already a point of tension in the scifi world at this point, but if the Star Wars fans had been given something like this to stew on one can only imagine that they would be using it repeatedly, as in “Yeah? Well no Star Wars actor has ever killed a Star Trek actor!”. It’s not exactly a trump card to be certain, but it’s something that’s

Garrett Wang’s first big role in Hollywood was playing Ensign Harry Kim on Star Trek: Voyager. But his career could have been over before really getting off the ground. That’s because he nearly killed Harrison Ford.
Wang and his former Voyager co-star, Robert Duncan McNeill, launched The Delta Flyers podcast where they re-watch the series and talk about their time working on the show. In the first episode, Wang recalled the casting process he went through to land the role and explained that he was driving through the Paramount parking lot when Ford stepped out in front of his car.
“I’m actually speeding around the parking lot, and I come around this one bend, and this guy in a suit walks between two cars right in front of my car, so I slam on my breaks,” Wang recalls in the podcast episode. “You know when you almost...

Exclusive: A Star Trek: Voyager reunion broke the Stars In The House single-episode fundraising record, drawing donations totaling $19,225 for The Actors Fund’s efforts to assist entertainment professionals in need during the Covid-19 pandemic.
The previous Stars In The House record was set by a Glee reunion episode that raised $13,910. Watch the Voyager reunion episode below.
“It came as no surprise that the Trekkies showed up in full force to see the reunion,” said Stars hosts-creators Seth Rudetsky and James Wesley, “but we didn’t know their generosity would be so great as to break the single-episode fundraising record. Of course, it makes sense because the Star Trek franchise has always been about inclusivity and kindness and we should have known that the values of the show are shared by Trekkies everywhere.”
The hosts said they’re already planning for additional Star Trek-themed episodes in the coming weeks.

1994’s Star Trek: Generations was the first cinematic outing for Jean-Luc Picard and The Next Generation crew, and the movie definitely worked hard to make it feel like their story had been lifted to another level from the TV series. Many of the characters had to deal with some personal upheaval, the Enterprise-d itself was destroyed and, most notably, William Shatner came back as Kirk. There was also an effort to give the crew a new look for the big screen, too. But this didn’t go according to plan.
It’s long been a source of irritation for fans that, randomly and without explanation, the Enterprise-d crew swapped their traditional Tng Starfleet uniforms for the Deep Space Nine/Voyager-style models in this film. From the next movie, 1996’s First Contact, onward, the crew donned brand new uniforms, so their fashion habits in Generations are a weird outlier. And as you’d expect,...

Today we learned the sad news that Aron Eisenberg has passed away at the age of 50. The actor was a beloved part of the Star Trek family for his role as Nog on Deep Space Nine. A recurring character appearing in 40 episodes, Nog was the first Ferengi to join Starfleet, and he wasn’t just popular with fans, either. Following his death, Star Trek stars from various different series have paid their respect to Eisenberg on social media.
Fans most recently got to see Eisenberg in the Ds9 documentary What We Left Behind, in which his passion for Trek was made clear. It was the documentary’s Twitter page that helped get the news out of the actor’s untimely passing as well, with the following Tweet:
We’re heartbroken to share news of the loss of one of our family. Aron Eisenberg was an enormous positive presence in any situation.

Dozens Of ‘Star Trek’ Actors Converge For Snoop Dogg’s Parody Pic ‘Unbelievable’ – Watch The Trailer
It’s a Trekkie delight. No idea why so many Star Trek actors thought this was a great idea, but they did. Snoop Dogg seems to be the furthest thing away from sci-fi as you can get, but he’s one of the stars Unbelievable, a parody film that uses a puppet for James T. Kirk. Watch the trailer for below.
The original score was written/composed by Emmy-winning, Oscar-nominated Gerald Fried — the last living composer from the original Star Trek series.
Snoop Dogg executive produced the film from writer-director Steven Fawcette that also stars Nichelle Nichols (who also co-produced), Angelique Fawcette (also a producer), Michael Madsen and Robert Davi. Also in the film are Casper Smart, Sam Asghari, Gilbert Gottfried and newcomer Katarina Van Derham.
Here are some of the 40-plus Star Trek actors who also appear: Garrett Wang, Chase Masterson Tim Russ, Armin Shimerman, Vaughn Armstrong, Gary Graham,...

Star Trek is pretty much unique when it comes to fan-made movies and episodes that pay homage to the sci-fi series. Left alone by CBS and Paramount (as long as they don’t try to make money from them) fans build elaborate sets and even bring in recognisable Star Trek actors to produce work that is anything but amateur.
The latest hoping to go into production is Star Trek: Renegades, co-written by Jack Trevino and staring Walter Koenig, Tim Russ, Garrett Wang and Robert Picardo among others, names that will be familiar to any Star Trek fan.
Jack Trevino is no stranger to the world of Star Trek. Having written the hugely popular fan-made miniseries Star Trek: Of Gods And Men which stared a number of Star Trek actors including Walter Koenig and Nichelle Nichols. The series was awarded ‘Best Web Production 2008’ by SyFy Portal which is now Alpha Airlock.

Among them are Walter Koenig (Chekov), Tim Russ (Tuvok), Gary Graham (Enterprise), Richard Herd, Garrett Wang and Initiraymi (all from Voyager). More about the show will be revealed soon. The official announcement includes the following: "Renegades will be a departure from previous Treks – delving into the dark side of the human psyche, pushing our heroes to their limits, forcing them to carry out actions that they never would have as Starfleet officers. The rules have changed, and they realize they might be the last hope to save the Federation. Star Trek: Renegades will be action oriented, filled with suspense and espionage; all while exploring new worlds, encountering both familiar and new alien species, and boldly going where no Trek has gone before.

One of the reasons that castmembers from old TV shows often site for signing on to reunion projects is the opportunity to see their old friends once again. Well, it doesn't look like we'll be seeing a Star Trek: Voyager reunion anytime soon but that doesn't stop the actors from getting together anyway.
Apparently the male members of Voyager have been getting together for lunch for sometime. On Tuesday night, they reunited for what Robert Duncan McNeill calls their "traditional boys steak dinner." Ethan Phillips is moving back to New York and McNeill notes, "We'll miss him!!!"
McNeill tweeted the photo and you can see, from left to right, Garrett Wang (Kim), Robert Beltran (Chakotay), Phillips (Neelix), McNeill (Paris) and Robert Picardo (The Doctor). McNeill told TrekMovie that Tim Russ (Tuvok) usually attends but was unavailable this week.

2011 marks the 20th anniversary of FedCon, the Star Trek-centric convention that has been running annually in Germany since 1992. While Trek is still very much the focus, FedCon has evolved and expanded to include similar franchises like Battlestar Galactica, Babylon 5, Farscape and Stargate. In a world that's cutting space programs left and right, someone has to promote the exploration of the universe -- even through Sci-Fi television -- and that someone is FedCon.
Our friends at TrekMovie were on the scene for the the convention, held April 28 - May 1 in Duesseldorf, Germany, and have filed some amazing coverage of the event, which you can check out here. Here are a few choice tidbits:

Almost a year ago, word started to get out of changes at Dragon*Con, specifically, a change in the leadership of one of its most popular fan tracks, the Trek Track. Before long the official announcement was made that long time Trek Track director, Eric Watts, had been relieved of his duties and that a new director would be announced. Then the announcement was made that .Star Trek: Voyager. cast member Garrett Wang was to be the new director of the Trek programming. Many applauded the announcement, predicting a renewal and rebirth of the popular track. Some, notably supporters of former director Watts, spoke out, ...

Dragon*Con, North America’s largest fan-run Sf convention, has hired a pro — actor Garrett Wang of Star Trek: Voyager — to lead its popular Star Trek track at this year’s event.
The con recently dispatched longtime TrekTrak director Eric Watts “with thanks” for his 17 years of service and promised attendees that “nothing has prepared you for what we have in store for this year’s ‘Trek Track.’”
Wang, best known for his role as Ensign Harry Kim in Star Trek: Voyager, accepted the position of Trek Track director. In his seven seasons on the popular series, Wang became a fan favorite as the clarinet-playing operations officer of the USS Voyager.
The Dragon*Con announcement called Wang “a science fiction fan as well as a Star Trek insider [who] will bring a fresh perspective to this year’s programming.”

It wasn't all work at San Diego Comic-Con this past July for the staffs of Airlock Alpha, Rabid Doll and Inside Blip. Ok, maybe it was. But there was a tiny bit of downtime, which we used to video some of the fun things that happened during the most recent event.
