Her father, Wolfgang Oscar Weigert, a psychiatrist, was born in 1932 in Berlin, Germany, to a Jewish father and a Protestant mother, and arrived in Maryland in 1938. Her mother, Dionne (Laufman), is a pianist. Robin's mother's family were Jewish emigrants from Russia and Germany.
