This Abbott Elementary review contains spoilers.
Abbott Elementary Season 2 Episode 1
Abbott Elementary got renewed for a second season shortly before its 13-episode first season even concluded. That’s because the show takes a severely misunderstood workplace setting, public schools, and breathes new life into it for families all over America. Unless you’re in education yourself, it’s hard to picture what teachers and administrators go through each day to give their best efforts and prepare students for their lives in and out of the classroom. Think of the show as a peak behind the curtains, a way for parents to gain a little more empathy for the adults who dedicate so much of their lives to a selfless career.
For anyone wondering whether the sitcom hits the same notes in its second time at bat, the answer is a resounding yes. Quinta Brunson’s heartfelt mockumentary is back and just as optimistic as ever,...

Back in 1999 I fell in love with the teen horror comedy Idle Hands, with its mix of gore, laughs and a teen cast that felt totally beliveable and altogether likeable. Now, some ten years later, that films director returns with Eat Brains Love, based on the young adult novel of the same name by Jeff Hart, which once again captures that exact blend of horror and comedy to perfection.
High schooler Jake Stephens longs for the unreachable Amanda Blake (Angelique Rivera), who’s dating Chazz (Ty Headlee) the head jock. So how can Jake woo Amanda away from Chazz who, in typical high-school movie fashion, is the schools resident meat-head bully. "Trapped" wasn't one of the better episodes of the season, but we did learn something big about Vincent's time in Afghanistan. Trying to save her when she was murdered wasn't the first time he came to her defense.
Evan did wonder what Cat saw in the tunnel! I'm so glad they didn't just let that issue ride. He's far to smart for that. Was it wrong that I felt bad Cat used him for J.T. to get into his office to Evan's equipment to make the serum? Because I did. Evan is a really good guy and I don't like to see him used, even when it's for a good purpose.
After what happened to him and given his scientific nature, it's entirely possible he might be interested in what Vincent is, not turn him in and even offer his services to help figure out what to do with him.

We get it, Matthew Weiner: You really love the ’80s and ’90s. Last season, it became clear that Mad Men’s showrunner has a penchant for the alumni of shows like The Secret World of Alex Mack and Clarissa Explains It All. And today, we learned that Weiner plans to kick off season 6 with a storyline familiar to anyone who once worshiped at the altars of Tgif and Nick at Nite: the Hawaiian vacation.

We're still on the fence about giving full coverage to The CW's upcoming fall series "Beauty and the Beast," but since some new key art and another promo video have arrived, we thought we'd share them.
Synopsis:
Detective Catherine Chandler is a smart, no-nonsense homicide detective. Several years earlier Catherine witnessed the murder of her mother at the hands of two gunmen. Catherine would have been killed, too, but someone – or something – saved her. No one has ever believed her, but she knows it wasn’t an animal that attacked the assassins…it was human.
Years have passed, and Catherine is a strong, confident, capable police officer, working alongside her equally talented partner, Tess. While investigating a murder, Catherine discovers a clue that leads her to a handsome doctor named Vincent Keller, who was reportedly killed by enemy fire while serving in Afghanistan in 2002. Catherine learns that Vincent is actually...

A little twist on the column this week as I preview shows that are coming out this week such as the series finale of The Closer and debut of spinoff series Major Crimes as well the very early season return of Grimm and the lackluster treatment of Black characters on Falling Skies and the primetime return of Tyler James Williams. Regular readers of this column know that The Closer is clearly one of my favorite television programs. In the premiere season seven years ago, series creator James Duff injected the show and star Kyra Sedgwick’s character deputy chief Brenda Leigh Johnson with a Prime Suspect-inspired plotline of being the female boss of an elite unit of (mostly) male...

THR broke the news, reporting that Peterson and Souders will be joining current showrunners/executive producers/writers Jennifer Levin and Sherri Cooper (Brothers & Sisters) as showrunners, which one has to think will be an interesting situation; four showrunners? Peterson and Souders most recently worked as consulting producers on yet another CW show, the one-season-only The Secret Circle.

The CW has picked up five new series for the 2012-2013 season, marking a more-than-normal order size for the smaller network. The Sex and the City prequel The Carrie Diaries will join superhero drama Arrow, thriller Cult, medical drama First Cut and the updated Beauty and the Beast.
These five new shows join veteran series Supernatural, The Vampire Diaries and 90210 on the schedule for next season. America's Next Top Model was also given a renewal for the fall. Gossip Girl is generally considered a safe bet for a shorter season next year, but the fate of freshman series The Secret Circle, Hart of Dixie and Ringer are currently unknown.
Updated: Nikita was just renewed for season 3.
