The Teen Titans show is one of the most iconic animated offerings from DC. It is in the same league as the studio’s other animated shows such as Batman: The Animated Series and Justice League. Animator Glen Murakami, who also worked on the aforementioned shows, worked on Teen Titans as a showrunner and brought the comic book team to the forefront.
While the Teen Titans began in the ‘60s, the comic book did not gain fame until its ‘80s revival in the form of Marv Wolfman and George Pérez’s The New Teen Titans, by which the show was inspired. Murakami revealed in an interview that DC wanted a do-over from the comics in the show as they were primarily a response to Marvel’s X-Men.

The Dcau is on a roll, with three times the fun. The Justice League: Crisis on Infinite Earths trilogy is a major production this year. With the first movie already released, we are now looking at the second installment of the trilogy, which is set to be released later this month. Based on the DC Comics of the same name by Marv Wolfman and George Perez, the three-part animated story will bring to life one of the most popular comic stories from the IP.

Animator and showrunner Glen Murakami’s legendary show Teen Titans has been one of the most beloved animated DC shows. While many are fans of DC’s other classic animated offerings such as Batman: The Animated Series and Justice League, Murakami’s show had a different edge and tone that made it perfect for both children and adults.
Teen Titans brought the underrated comic to the forefront as characters such as Robin and Cyborg became much more than their usual sidekick personas. The show also gave more of an edge to Robin, bringing him out of Batman’s shadow. One decision that Glen Murakami took to make sure the series was better than other DC shows was to make it both kid and adult-friendly.

Spider-Man: The Animated Series and Batman: The Animated Series were probably the best animated shows of the ’90s. While the former is a Marvel show, the latter is a part of the Dcau. Although it has been years since the last seasons of these shows aired, fans still go back to them from time to time.
Besides being one of the best animated shows out there, Spider-Man: The Animated Series was the first project to introduce the Spider-Man Multiverse which inspired numerous comics and other projects in the 21st century. On the other hand, Batman: The Animated Series was so good that it won several Daytime Emmy Awards and even a Primetime Emmy Award.
While there is no competition between the two because both have excelled in their own way, here are 3 reasons why each of the two shows is great.

The multiverse is something that is largely at play these days. From the Marvel Cinematic Universe to Rick and Morty, numerous franchises are currently using this element. While DC has been no stranger to it, the screen adaptation might have taken a little longer than others.

DC Comics’ twelve-issue crossover series Crisis on Infinite Earths by Marv Wolfman & George Pérez has undoubtedly been revolutionary for the DC Universe. With co-CEOs James Gunn and Peter Safran rebooting the franchise, it seems fair that the comic series is finally being adapted into animated movies. However, there are a lot of scenes from the original script that will never see the light of the day.

Last year was a standout year for animation, and 2024 is already shaping up to be another banger. While a majority of the high-profile animation releases are due out later this summer, the first quarter of 2024 has already been promising. We at /Film are constantly singing the praises of animation as a medium, and doing our best to course-correct the ignorant idea that animation is only for children. Admittedly, this list is going to look mighty small for the time being, but it will be updated throughout the year as more films become available. As we noted last year, animation is one of the only mediums where global cinema is given an equal footing to studio-produced films in America, with the artistic visuals serving as a universal language that we can all enjoy. Meaning, this list is not limited to Hollywood animation releases ... and that's a good thing. As for now,...

A live-action adaptation of DC Comics’ Teen Titans is officially in the works for James Gunn and Peter Safran’s DC Studios.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, screenwriter Ana Nogueira is already on board to write the script. Nogueira, recognizable for acting roles in CW’s The Vampire Diaries and Starz’s Hightown, is also working on DC’s Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, set to star Milly Alcock.
The announcement makes Teen Titans the first film added to the initial run of DC Universe productions Gunn revealed back in January 2023. It remains to be seen how or when it will slot into what’s being called Chapter One: Gods and Monsters, but Gunn, Nogueria, and the DC team have plenty of options.
Made up of superhero “sidekicks,” the Teen Titans were originally introduced in 1964 in The Brave and the Bold #54. Founding members included Robin, Wonder Girl, Kid Flash, and Aqualad.

It’s go time for the Teen Titans.
The DC heroes, which began as the teenaged sidekicks of their more famous and iconic counterparts, are getting their own live-action feature from the James Gunn and Peter Safran-led DC Studios.
The comic book movie division of Warner Bros. Discovery has tapped Ana Nogueira to pen the screenplay for the project. The hiring further ensconces the actress and playwright-turned scribe into the DC family as she is already writing Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow for the label.
The Teen Titans were first introduced in the mid-1960s and featured Robin, Kid Flash, and Aqualad as well as Wonder Girl. Other teens such as Speedy, the sidekick to Green Arrow, joined the adventures later. The comics skewed young and were not considered major sellers until the 1980s relaunch by Marv Wolfman and George Perez.

Review of Justice League: Crisis on Infinite Earths – Part One: A Disappointing Start to Crisis (Photo Credit – IMDb)
What’s Good: The voice cast, including Matt Bomer, Ashleigh Lathrop, and Christopher North, delivers performances on par with previous entries in the franchise. Bomer’s earnest portrayal of The Flash echoes the character’s Silver Age origins, while Lathrop and North contribute essential enthusiasm and finesse to their respective roles. Despite the film’s shortcomings, the voice actors bring their characters to life with notable performances.

The release date for Marvel’s upcoming Blade reboot has shifted several times already – at one point, it was scheduled to release in 2024 – and we’ve got another new date today.
Most recently slated for release on February 14, 2025, Blade will now daywalk into movie theaters on November 7, 2025. It’ll be the first time the vampire-slaying Marvel Comics character has been seen on the big screen since Blade: Trinity, released back in 2004.
Yann Demange (“Lovecraft Country”) will sit in the director’s chair for Blade’s big screen return in late 2025. Mahershala Ali is starring alongside Mia Goth (X, Pearl).
According to Demange, the upcoming movie will definitely be rated “R.”
Michael Starrbury (When They See Us) wrote the most recent draft of the screenplay, and we recently learned that Nic Pizzolatto (“True Detective”) is now working on the script.

It’s no secret that Marvel’s Blade reboot has been enduring all kinds of behind the scenes issues, with the approach clearly changing and evolving as different filmmakers come and go. Mahershala Ali, the Oscar-winning actor who is set to play the iconic vampire hunter Blade in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, was reportedly ready to leave the project due to creative differences with the studio. According to a recent article from Variety1, Ali was unhappy with the direction of the script, which had Blade as a secondary character in his own movie.
The article claims that one of the early drafts of the script, written by Stacy Osei-Kuffour and Nic Pizzolatto, had Blade as the fourth lead of the film, behind three new characters who were supposed to be his allies. The script also featured a villain who was a former lover of Blade’s mother, and a plot that involved a cult of vampires trying to resurrect Dracula.

The live-action Titans series had tremendous potential, from its source material to the pedigrees of the talent bringing the heroes to television. Titans failed to work from the first episode to the last. As a television series, it needed a bigger budget for better effects, and the caliber of actors needed to be stronger to pull off these larger-than-life personalities.
Most of the storylines were drawn from Marv Wolfman and George Pérez’s seminal run from the early 1980s or the early issues from Geoff Johns and Mike McKone’s run in the 2000s. Both required a consistent tonality along with a budget to make the scope of the stories work.
In the fourth and final series, out now on disc from Warner Home Entertainment, the series tackled both Lex Luthor and Brother Blood. Either one could easily have been the Big Bad for these last dozen episodes, but they split the focus and,...

When it comes to comics, superheroes are inexplicably linked to monsters. Horror comics existed before the superhero boom launched with Action Comics #1 (1938), and continued going strong after the caped crowd flopped following World War II. When Jack Kirby, Steve Ditko, and Stan Lee launched the Marvel Universe in the early 60s, they did so tentatively, keeping Spider-Man, Hulk, and the Fantastic Four close to the sci-fi and monster comics they made throughout the fifties.
As unlikely as the pairing may seem, superheroes and monsters make for a peanut butter and chocolate combination. Not only do monsters provide the overpowered villains required for superhero fights, as the current Justice League vs. Godzilla vs. Kong demonstrates, but they also give characters like Spider-Man and Batman a chance to show off their heroism in the darkest of times.
So if you’re looking for some spooky superhero stories for your Halloween season, these 13 comics will do the trick.

The late Len Wein was one of the most prolific comic book writers of his day. Like many of his contemporaries (especially Marv Wolfman and Gerry Conway), he bounced back and forth between the "Big Two" comic companies, Marvel and DC. Wein left his mark at both, co-creating characters like Swamp Thing and Lucius Fox at DC and the next generation of X-Men at Marvel.
However, his most famous creation is without a doubt Wolverine. Lein worked with then Marvel Editor-In-Chief Roy Thomas and artist John Romita Sr.; the trio debuted Logan in 1974's "Incredible Hulk" issue #180 (written by Wein). In creating Wolverine, Wein wanted to give whoever wrote "X-Men" next a new mutant character. As it turns out, that writer was Wein himself when he crafted "Giant-Size X-Men" #1 with artist Dave Cockrum the following year. Wein eventually ceded the ongoing "X-Men" series to writer Chris Claremont, but...

Before X-Men or Spider-Man, there was Blade, the 1998 movie starring Wesley Snipes as the iconic vampire hunter. The film was written by David Goyer, who revealed on the Happy Sad Confused podcast that he originally developed a draft of Blade with none other than David Fincher.
At the time, David Fincher had only directed Alien 3, so he was far from the high-profile filmmaker we know today. “I developed a draft with Fincher before he had done Seven,” Goyer said. “I think he had done Alien 3 and maybe he was developing Seven. I developed a draft with him. I remember going to our producers office, and Fincher had this…there was this giant conference table. Fincher laid out 40 to 50 books of photography and art with post-it notes inside them. He said, ‘This is the movie.’“
Goyer continued, “[Fincher] took us on a two-hour tour around the table of the aesthetics of this scene,...

The last time comics author Brian Michael Bendis worked with his longtime collaborator, artist Alex Maleev, the result was Scarlet, a two-volume series that was dark and dystopian, telling the tale of a corrupt police state and a new American civil war. The second volume hit in 2016, as the Donald Trump presidency began, seemingly presaging the darker moments of the last several years.
“I promised Alex the next one will be fun,” Bendis recalls.
Now, the writer, who is perhaps most associated with his best known creation, Spider-Man Miles Morales, is back with that “fun one,” a six-issue miniseries from Dark Horse Comics titled Masterpiece that reunites him with Maleev for the first time since 2016. The story takes Bendis back to his crime story roots while offering a bevy of original colorful characters with the writer’s patented snappy dialogue.

‘Daredevil: Born Again’ is, for a good number of reasons, one of the most anticipated MCU projects at this moment and probably the most anticipated MCU series. We all know that Charlie Cox’s Daredevil debuted in the Netflix original series ‘Daredevil,’ which ran for three seasons and received critical acclaim, with many still considering it one of the best superhero television series ever created. After the series ended and the rights were reverted to Marvel Studios, the fans started an online campaign to bring Cox’s Daredevil back for more.
The last season of Netflix’s ‘Daredevil’ was released in 2018, and fans waited three years for the return of Charlie Cox, who returned as Matt Murdock in ‘Spider-Man: No Way Home’ and Vincent D’Onofrio, who returned as Wilson Fisk/Kingpin in ‘Hawkeye.’

By 1998, it was a certainty that the studios had all but given up on superhero movies. After the financial flops that were Steel and Spawn, along with the sheer critical universal panning of Batman & Robin, the prospects for future superhero movies seemed dim. In the nineties it was very difficult for even a Batman movie to get off the ground, with properties like Superman, Iron Man, and Spider-Man stuck in a decade long development purgatory at their respective studios.
But in 1998, New Line Cinema took a shot on what was considered a somewhat “C” level superhero in the form of Blade. Within the Marvel Universe there exists a horror sub-universe where characters like Mephisto, Ghost Rider, Morbius, and Man-Thing roam, and Blade was considered one of their greatest foils and adversaries. Created by Gene Colan and Marv Wolfman, Blade was introduced in 1973 in “The Tomb of Dracula” #10. He was one...

Marvel is one of the most recognized and powerful names in all of pop culture. The world over, the name brings to mind enduring heroes such as Spider-Man and Iron Man, with movies based on the publisher's characters generating tens of billions at the box office over the last 20 years and change. But it wasn't always that way. Before Marvel became such a force to be reckoned with, the company was in the middle of an ugly bankruptcy and was on the verge of financial ruin. Then, an unlikely hero emerged. His name was Blade.

“Kevin Feige, you have failed this cinematic universe.”
Okay, Arrowverse co-creator Marc Guggenheim didn’t put it quite like that, but he does has some pretty strong advice for the head of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. “There’s just too much content,” Guggenheim said on The Aarthi & Sriram Show. “If I was suddenly in Kevin Feige’s role, basically I would do what [Disney President Bob] Iger was saying, which is prune the tree,” Guggenheim explained. “You know, there’s just too much content. I’m like the biggest Marvel nerd ever, and I haven’t seen Moon Knight. I just can’t keep up.”
Opinions like this can be found everywhere, but Guggenheim knows a thing or two about shepherding a successful superhero universe. Along with Greg Berlanti, Guggenheim created the Arrowverse on the CW Network. Beginning with the relatively grounded Arrow in 2012, Guggenheim and Berlanti launched a bonkers shared universe that...

As Christopher Nolan's Manhattan Project study "Oppenheimer" takes over the box office this weekend, news is out that Doctor Manhattan is coming back to the big screen. Following a screening of "Justice League: Warworld" at this year's San Diego Comic-Con, DC Studios announced the first-ever animated adaptation of the beloved "Watchmen" comics is finally readying for release.
News that an animated "Watchmen" movie was in the works at Warner Bros. came out way back in 2017, but there have been little to no updates since. DC unveiling a new logo for not only this project but an animated "Crisis on Infinite Earths" movie as well came as a welcome surprise to Sdcc attendees.

Kit Harington joined the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Dane Whitman in Eternals. The actor didn’t have the biggest role in the movie, but it was clear that his character was being set up to become the Black Knight. The post-credit scene took the first step towards that Black Knight future with Whitman opening a chest containing the Ebony Blade, but before he could touch it, he was interrupted by an unseen Blade (Mahershala Ali).
With the Blade movie already announced, it was assumed that Dane Whitman/Black Knight would make an appearance. However, Kit Harington told the audience at Superhero Comic-Con that he was never meant to be in the Blade movie. “I was never…I think there was some misunderstanding about whether he was going to be in the Blade movie,” Harington said. “He was never meant to be in the Blade movie.” As the MCU hasn’t...

From True Detective to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. THR has reported that Nic Pizzolatto, creator of HBO’s hit crime anthology series, is now working on Marvel’s Blade movie.
Nic Pizzolatto has previously worked with Blade star Mahershala Ali on the third season of True Detective, so this marks something of a reunion for the pair. Sources told THR that Pizzolatto has been working off the existing script by Michael Starrbury (When They See Us) for several weeks now. Ali’s work on the third season of True Detective earned him an Emmy Award nomination for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Limited Series or Movie.
With production on Blade expected to get underway late next month in Atlanta, Marvel must be scrambling to get the script in the best shape they can, particularly if the WGA strike happens. Yann Demange (White Boy Rick) is set to direct Blade for Marvel.

Blade is batting its wings towards a late May start of production in Atlanta with Yann Demange, who helmed the pilot of HBO’s boundary-pushing horror series Lovecraft Country, in the director’s chair.
The feature is casting up and most recently added rising scream queen Mia Goth to the call sheet. Delroy Lindo is also on the roster.
Blade currently has a script by Michael Starrbury, who earned an Emmy nomination for penning an episode of Ava DuVernay’s drama, When They See Us. Sources say Pizzolatto is working off Starrbury’s draft and has been keyboarding for a few weeks now.

Production is underway on MaXXXine, the third film of Ti West’s X trilogy starring Mia Goth, and the actress told SFX Magazine that she views the new sequel as a “superhero movie.“
“I see MaXXXine as a superhero movie – that’s how I read the script,” Mia Goth said. “Maxine, as a character, has come a long way. She’s a survivor, she’s gone through a lot. When we meet her again, in this new world that she’s in, she’s really fought for everything that she has, and she’s not about to give that up. She’s going to fight for what she has. She’s a badass. There’s a strength to her. And she’s a really proactive, determined, focused woman. She goes after what she wants, and she’s not really going to take no for an answer.”

Mia Goth is ready to join the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Deadline reports that Mia Goth is set to join Mahershala Ali in Marvel Studios’ upcoming Blade movie.
Yann Demange (White Boy Rick) is set to direct the Blade movie, with Michael Starrbury (When They See Us) penning the script. In typical Marvel fashion, plot details for Blade are being kept under wraps at this time, and it’s also not known who Mia Goth might be playing. Any guesses?
The character of Blade was originally created by Marv Wolfman and Gene Colan for The Tomb of Dracula #10 in 1973. Blade is a half-mortal, half-immortal who hunts vampires in order to avenge his mother, who was killed by a vampire as she gave birth to him. Bassam Tariq (Mogul Mowgli) was originally attached to direct Blade, but he wound up stepping down last year, leaving Marvel to push pause on pre-production while they searched for a replacement.
