Until recently, filmmaker Jon Erwin was the reigning box-office champ for faith-based films with “I Can Only Imagine” and “Jesus Revolution.” Shortly after “Sound of Freedom” opened to $14.2 million, he offered advice to Angel Studios on how it might capitalize that success.
By November, when the child-trafficking drama grossed $250 million worldwide, Erwin lost his bragging rights. He remembers joking with the producers, “It wasn’t supposed to work this much!”
Ego aside, he welcomed the success. As “Sound of Freedom” inspired box-office think pieces and conspiracy-theory controversy, Erwin and partner Kelly Merryman Hoogstraten were in talks with Amazon Studios. Today, their company The Wonder Project is producing a slate of faith-based series and films; Erwin said he’d “be lying” if he believed “Sound of Freedom” didn’t help him get a better deal.

When James Gunn took over his role as co-chairman and co-ceo of DC Studios, he was instantly labeled as a “nepotist” due to giving preferential roles to his brother Sean Gunn. He also has a tendency to hire actors that he previously worked with in successful projects.
Sean Gunn, James’ brother is known for his portrayal of Kraglin Obfonteri in his brother’s ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ films within the Marvel Cinematic Universe, he’s also been selected for various roles in the revamped DC Universe, the most major role being that of Maxwell Lord. This is something that Zachary Levi also commented on when ‘Shazam! Fury of the Gods’ flopped and it was official that he won’t continue his tenure of playing the character in Gunn’s Dcu.

Last week, Max finally released the trailer for their much-anticipated The Batman spin-off series, The Penguin, teeing up its fall release date. Overall, it looks highly reminiscent of Matt Reeves’ film, with the cinematography very much in the Grieg Fraser mode. But what else do we know about The Penguin? More than you may think.
The Penguin is set after The Batman.
The plot of The Penguin is set to follow the title character, once again portrayed by Colin Farrell, as he rises through the ranks of the Gotham City criminal underworld. After the events of The Batman and the flooding of Gotham, including the death of Carmine Falcone, Cobblepot desperately wants to fill the power vacuum. Colin Farrell has also indicated that the film will serve as an origin story for the Penguin, something we have seen twice on screen before in Tim Burton’s Batman Returns, played by Danny DeVito.

Attempts to adapt Johnson’s children’s classic started back in 1992, but it wasn’t until 2021 that the idea finally became a proper project. The movie is going to be directed by Carlos Saldanha from a script written by David Guion and Michael Handelman, with Sony releasing the movie.
Zachary Levi is set to star as the titular Harold, and he was the first actor to sign on for the project. Unlike the original book, the titular protagonist is going to be portrayed as an adult man, portrayed by Zachary Levi; in the book, Harold is a child. Harold and the Purple Crayon is a beloved children’s book written and illustrated by Crockett Johnson about a curious four-year-old boy with a magic purple crayon that has the power to make anything he draws become real. Hollywood has been attempting to bring the story to the big screen for decades, and it seems that time has finally arrived. Sony Pictures has dropped a pair of posters for the live-action adaptation of Harold and the Purple Crayon, which stars Zachary Levi.
As you might be aware, Zachary Levi is not a four-year-old boy, so the movie is obviously switching up the story somewhat. Sony hasn’t released an official plot synopsis yet, but here’s my prediction: A now grown-up Harold has mostly forgotten about his magical purple crayon, believing it was a product of his young imagination. But when Harold finds himself in debt to the mob, he...

Milo Ventimiglia is opening up about the Heroes reboot and the possibility of a new revival. The actor also revealed why he won’t be auditioning for the Batman role in The Brave and the Bold film that James Gunn is working on as part of the new DC Universe he is constructing alongside Peter Safran.
In a new interview, the This Is Us alum was pessimistic about the idea of bringing back Heroes, the 2006 Tim Kring-created superhero series that aired on NBC for four seasons.
“I feel like I’ve been trained to say ‘never say never.’ But I think when they tried to bring back Heroes and reboot Heroes, it was a bit of a soft landing,” Ventimiglia said in an interview with ComicBook. “I don’t think that one’s gonna be revisited again.”
Ventimiglia played the role of Peter Petrelli, a hospice nurse who can mimic other people’s abilities.

After facing production halts and delays for a year during the post-covid hiatus, superhero movies gradually started making a comeback in 2021–2022, and 2023 was geared up to be the biggest year for the genre since Avengers: Endgame, with some of the most anticipated releases slated across two big franchises. Instead, by the end of the year, the said genre had lost its position as Hollywood’s regular top earner; the relevance of superhero media on the silver screen was put into question, and both franchises went through some massive setbacks in their respective cinematic universes. The reason for such unprecedented rejection of the genre that dominated the market for over a decade or so is rooted in the utter callousness of the makers, who had taken the audience for granted and, as a result, spent little to no effort pushing the boundaries of the genre or coming up with inventive or...

Friends, Bialyans, DC fans, lend me your ears. We come not to bury the DC Extended Universe, but to praise it. Yes, the franchise has met its ignoble end with the bloated but lackluster Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, and yes, the franchise gave us the internet scourge known as Snyder Bros.
But no one who loves superhero movies can dismiss the entire ordeal. There will be time to analyze the many mistakes of DC’s first live-action cinematic universe or to continue looking forward to what James Gunn and Peter Safran have in store for DC Studios. For now, let’s look at the good things accomplished by the Dceu, a massive project that saw 15 movies released in 11 years. Here are eight great aspects to the Dceu, aspects that deserve to live on under Gunn and Safran’s tenure, and should be adopted by Marvel, unless the MCU wants to suffer the same fate.

Simple can be both efficient and effective and so it was when the plucky chucks of Chicken Run first hit the scene in 2000. The Aardman classic took PoW camp ideas - familiar from a thousand re-runs of The Great Escape at Christmas - and plonked them into a chicken farm, with the hens hatching plans to break-out. All of this is shown in a recap at the start of the sequel, which by dint of being more sprawling than the original, lacks the same sharply funny focus, although it's not without its moments.

Zachary Levi as Chuck Bartowski in Chuck Before he was calling down the lightning as Shazam, Zachary Levi was winning hearts as the lovable nerd-turned-spy Chuck Bartowski in Chuck. The series, which ran from 2007 to 2012, was a defining moment for Levi, showcasing his ability to blend comedy with heartfelt drama. At the risk of being hyperbolic, 2023 has been a pretty terrible, horrible, no good, very bad year for Marvel Studios. The Marvel Cinematic Universe suffered its biggest box office flop ever with "The Marvels"; the "Secret Invasion" series was the worst-reviewed MCU entry ever and drew middling viewership; and audiences mostly shrugged off "Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania," along with its attempts to tee up interest in the McU's Multiverse Saga. That's on top of all the bad buzz from reports about the House of Ideas' behind-the-scenes woes, the departure of longtime Marvel Studios executive Victoria Alonso, and the general opinion that Marvel Studios has released too much of questionable quality too quickly of late, even by its standards.
Naturally, however, all of this pales in importance compared to the Jonathan Majors situation. What was once set to be the "Lovecraft Country" and "Creed III" actor's big year came grinding...

It’s the same gang from “Chicken Run,” this time residing in an island paradise after the events from that film. Ginger (voice of Thandiwe Newton) and Rocky (Zachary Levy) welcome daughter Molly (Bella Ramsey), and the girl’s curiosity about her parent’s past leads to her to find a way out of chicken island. After hitching a ride on a transport truck, Molly lands in what seems like chicken paradise … all of the fowl running free and enjoying an amusement park. But it’s all part of a plan … a happy chicken is a tastier chicken, in an experiment run by old nemesis Mrs. Tweedy (Miranda Richardson). Can...
