Taylor Sheridan sparked outrage when he stated that his 2017 film Wind River played a major part in the Reauthorization of the Violence Against Women Act that President Joe Biden signed into law in 2022. This reauthorization played a huge part in strengthening its reach to the Native communities. Needless to say, Native groups were and still are quite furious at Taylor Sheridan for trying to take credit for the decades of advocacy behind the act.

Still, many Native American actors work in Taylor Sheridan’s projects despite the community’s displeasure with the director. Reservation Dogs actress’ Jana Schmieding opened up about why she would never blame these actors for working with Taylor Sheridan as the representation of Native people in the industry is almost non-existent today.

The following contains spoilers for the Marvel Studios series "Echo."
The latest entry in the Marvel Cinematic Universe is something kind of unique, following the villain-to-antihero origin story of Maya Lopez, A.K.A. Echo (Alaqua Cox). It's the first TV-ma-rated show released under the "Marvel Spotlight" banner and it gets a little more experimental in its storytelling, beginning each episode with a flashback to one of Maya's ancestors awakening some great power within themselves. Each of these ancestors then helps Maya by passing their powers on to her, allowing her to access their agility, accuracy with ranged weapons, and even magical healing abilities. She is an echo of them, carrying the powers and responsibility to protect her people, which helps her to heal from her turbulent, crime-ridden past.
But who are each of these ancestors? The episodes only show brief glimpses of their story, but there's some historical context...

These days, legacy can be a burden for television. Whether it’s the legacy of a beloved property poised to be bastardized via reboot, the legacy of a network or star, the legacy of a brilliant debut now hinging upon equal or better subsequent installment, there are legacies intertwined in too many new shows, hanging in the balance as studios and streamers churn out new stories.
But legacy doesn’t matter so much to Maya Lopez (Alaqua Cox) the lead of Marion Dayre’s “Echo,” now streaming in full on Disney+. Whether it’s her family, her employer, or the stories passed down to her as a child, Maya is more interested in forging her own path than appeasing various players around her. Like “Echo” itself, she stands alone and stands tall — distinct and imposing compared to any imitation.
On her path to becoming the eponymous Echo, Maya is a...

This Dexter: New Blood review contains spoilers.
Not many shows get a second chance at a finale. But then again, not many shows’ first finales are as bad as Dexter’s was.
After the original Dexter series finale back in 2013 was received, let’s say, less than warmly, Showtime decided to try it again. Following a seven year cool-off period, the network invited original showrunner Clyde Phillips back to envision a new end for Bay Harbor Butcher in the limited series Dexter: New Blood.
Now Dexter: New Blood’s new ending has come and gone and despite mixed fan reaction, it’s hard to argue that it isn’t an improvement…or at least we believe it is. Still, while Dexter: New Blood did an excellent job in wrapping up Dexter’s story once and for all, it left some secondary Dexter characters out in the cold. That’s partly...

Spoiler Alert: This interview reveals major storylines from the finale of Showtime’s Dexter: New Blood.
When Clyde Phillips met with Michael C. Hall about returning to the role of Dexter Morgan in what would become Dexter: New Blood, he already knew the serial killer’s life would end.
Hall signed up without hesitation.
Fans of the hit Showtime series Dexter, which ran eight seasons from 2006-2013, rejoined the former Miami Metro blood spatter analyst —now known by the alias Jim Lindsay—and have enthusiastically tuned in to watch his final adventure unfold. And though that journey has now come to an end with his shocking death, the beloved franchise may continue to expand with a little help from his progeny, Harrison Morgan (Jack Alcott).
Phillips spoke with Deadline about whether death was the only conclusion on the table for Dexter, the status of a possible continuation, and what happens...

Spoiler Alert: This story includes details from the finale of Showtime’s Dexter: New Blood.
It’s truly the end of an era as the fate of Dexter Morgan (Michael C. Hall) has been sealed in the final episode of Showtime’s Dexter: New Blood. And whether or not fans like the ending this time around, there’s no going back.
“Dexter Morgan is dead,” series showrunner Clyde Phillips confirmed to Deadline in a conversation that will run immediately following this recap.
Nearly a decade after America’s favorite fictional serial killer disappeared into a Miami hurricane in the original series finale, in New Blood it is revealed that Dexter was alive and well living in Iron Lake, NY under the alias Jim Lindsay.
He had completely changed his life and left every part of his old life behind, until right around the time someone from his past found him.

A grim and troubling turn of events led to a killer walking free.
On Dexter: New Blood Season 1 Episode 7, Kurt Caldwell slithered out of prison and began toying with Dexter.
It was a tense hour of power shifts and crushing reveals.
Kurt has been one step ahead of Dexter since Dexter: New Blood Season 1 Episode 3. The titanium screw reveal was shocking. It goes to show that no detail is included without a purpose. The hints have always been there, even since the first episode.
Now, the question is, what other little hints are there that can help Dexter get ahead of Kurt?

Increasingly, television series are assembling dazzling “dream teams” of well-known and accomplished actors, each capable of carrying their own solo show. Not only do such series attract viewers with their impressive rosters, but the casts also feel energized knowing their A-games will be matched move for move by their co-stars.
“I was overwhelmed, in a good way,” Selena Gomez says of joining comedy icons Steve Martin and Martin Short in “Only Murders in the Building,” only to learn Amy Ryan, Nathan Lane, Tina Fey, Sting and an array of additional top-f light actors would fill out the cast. “I’m on set and I’m playing piano, and Sting’s playing what I’m playing with his guitar, and I’m just like, ‘What is my life?’”
Gomez, returning to acting after a hiatus, admits being surrounded by such a wealth of talent and experience was both challenging and inspiring.

Well, that escalated quickly.
Dexter: New Blood Season 1 Episode 6 was an hour of nail-biting suspense, subverted expectations, and great character moments.
Secrets have been discovered, but who else will learn about them?
Angela wasted no time confronting Dexter about his identity. Julia Jones and Michael C. Hall played this perfectly. While she was angry and disgusted at his lies and his treatment of Harrison, he was just trying to navigate how much information to impart to appear vulnerable.

How is Dexter going to explain this away? During the Dec. 5 episode of Dexter: New Blood, Chief of Police Angela Bishop (Julia Jones) learned that her boyfriend Jim Lindsay is, in reality, former Miami resident Dexter Morgan (Michael C. Hall). The revelation came about after an encounter with Captain Angel Batista—shout-out to the return of David Zayas—who revealed that a former colleague had a son named Harrison. Then, Angela's daughter Audrey (Johnny Sequoyah) shared that Iron Lake teen Harrison (Jack Alcott) confessed that his dad's name isn't really Jim. After some internet sleuthing, Angela found Dexter's obituary, which included a very telling photo. And,...

“Dexter: New Blood” staged a reunion (of sorts) in the December 5 episode when Dexter’s new girlfriend, Iron Lake Chief of Police Angela Bishop (Julia Jones), met his old coworker, Miami Metro Captain Angel Batista (David Zayas). The last time viewers saw Batista was in the 2013 series finale, when Dexter (Michael C. Hall) drove his boat into a hurricane and made everyone believe he and his son Harrison had died. Zayas now reveals he had “mixed feelings” about that controversial ending, telling EW, “I felt it might’ve been a little underwhelming.”

A decade after Dexter Morgan sailed off into the sunset storm, he’s back and ready for some new blood. Showtime officially greenlit a “Dexter” revival in October 2020, with the premiere date taking place on November 7, 2021. Michael C. We knew it wouldn't be long until Dexter gave in to his Dark Passenger, but it's always more fun to watch him cover his tracks.
On Dexter: New Blood Season 1 Episode 2, that's exactly what he does.
Dexter is more at odds with himself than ever before, but his self-preservation instincts are still intact.
Debra (Jennifer Carpenter) is much more animated "conscience" to Dexter than Harry.
No disrespect to James Remar -- he was always solid -- but as Dexter's priorities and actions have shifted, so has the adversarial voice in his head, foul-mouthed and full of rage.
Carpenter rips and tears into this new version of her old character with her teeth bare, shredding Dexter every chance she gets.

Spoiler Alert: Do not read if you have not watched “Cold Snap,” the premiere of “Dexter: New Blood.”
Showtime’s “Dexter” was known for juxtaposing the coral colors and bright sunshine of Miami with its titular character’s internal darkness, which he sought to combat by kidnapping and killing other killers. At the end of the drama’s eight-season run, Dexter (Michael C. Hall) traded breezy button-downs and heavy plaid as he put himself in isolation in a remote logging town after too many of his loved ones were caught in the crosshairs of his secret identity.
Over the last eight years, Dexter made a new home in the small town of Iron Lake, N.Y. where, at least during winter months, the cold and dreary surroundings seem to better fit the mental state of someone doing, as Hall puts it, “protracted penance.”

It's fan service at its finest.
On Dexter: New Blood Season 1 Episode 1, we are introduced to a kinder, gentler Dexter, existing in a climate as different from Miami as possible.
It's not long until the bloodlust kicks in, and Dexter is back to his old ways. But that's why we're here, isn't it?
After Dexter's poorly resolved "final season," viewers were left with a bad taste in their mouths. When Showtime announced that the series would return with a limited run, fans remained skeptical but intrigued.
With Clyde Phillips, showrunner of the first four seasons (widely considered Dexter's best), heading the production, we needn't have worried. Dexter: New Blood feels like a return to the old Dexter we knew and loved.
There are many differences, but the tone feels the same as in the original series. There are enough callbacks to remind us how we got hooked without feeling gratuitous.

In the pantheon of shows known for having the “worst series finale” of all time, Showtime’s “Dexter” is right at the top. Since the episode titled “Remember the Monsters?” originally aired eight years ago, anti-hero serial killer Dexter Morgan faking his own death and pivoting to becoming a lumberjack has been a shorthand for what a show shouldn’t do when it finally ends, even if it’s ending on top or on its own terms. And while “Dexter” remained a hit for Showtime — lasting 96 episodes over eight seasons — plenty of arguments have been made by fans and critics that the series should’ve ended with its fourth season, the much beloved Trinity Killer (John Lithgow) season. That would also be the final season with original series showrunner Clyde Phillips — who is back as showrunner for “Dexter: New Blood” — before series writer Scott Buck took the reins.

When “Dexter” premiered in 2006, audiences were only just becoming enamored with antiheroes. Tony Soprano was putting out hits and Dr. Gregory House was abusing his meds, but Don Draper, Walter White, and many more of TV’s thorny bad boys had yet to make their mark. Dexter Morgan, played with an eerie sobriety and winking humor by Michael C. Hall, fit right in, as a serial killer who only kills criminals. Spurred on by his “dark passenger,” Dexter spent his nights stalking, studying, and slicing his pernicious prey, but even his day job (as a blood spatter analyst for the Miami P.D.) saw him obsessing over diabolical deeds and bodily fluids.
And that’s just it: “Dexter” may have risen to prominence under the auspices of TV’s (second) golden age, but what it leaned on far more than its thematic dissection of man vs. monster, nature vs. nurture,...

We’re just about a month away from the November 7 premiere of “Dexter: New Blood” on Showtime, which will reunite fans with their favorite serial killer. Little is known about the plot of Season 9, except for the fact that Dexter Morgan (Michael C. Hall) is now living a secluded life in Iron Lake, New York after faking his death in the 2013 series finale. His sister Debra Morgan (Jennifer Carpenter) will also be a part of the revival, though it’s unclear in what capacity as she died (for real) at the hands of psychopath Oliver Saxon (Darri Ingolfsson) in the final season.
As fans continue to speculate about Carpenter’s mysterious role in “Dexter: New Blood,” let’s take a look at three newly released photos of the former Miami Metro lieutenant.

Dexter’s Michael C. Hall looks chilling in the key art for Showtime’s upcoming revival Dexter: New Blood.
To celebrate the original series 15th anniversary on Friday, Showtime dropped two pieces of key art for Dexter’s next chapter, which is set to debut on November 7 at 9 p.m. Et/Pt.
Dexter, which aired for eight seasons on Showtime from 2006-13, centered on the mild-mannered Dexter Morgan (Hall). By day, Dexter worked as a blood-spatter analyst for the Miami police. By night, he was a serial killer—one who happened to target other murderers.
Set 10 years after Dexter went missing in the eye of Hurricane Laura, Dexter: New Blood finds the titular character living under an assumed name in the fictional small town of Iron Lake, New York. Dexter may be embracing his new life, but in the wake of unexpected events in this close-knit community, his Dark Passenger inevitably beckons.

Dexter Morgan might very well still be a monster, but he's an evolving monster. After a laughably bad finale that was supposed to wrap up Showtime's "Dexter" left a bad taste in audiences' mouths, the show is coming back for a ten episode event series that picks up a decade after the events of the season eight finale. Check out the latest trailer below.

Is Dexter Morgan a monster?
That's the question Michael C. Hall's embattled alter ego asks himself multiple times on the full-length trailer for Dexter: New Blood, the upcoming revival of the hit series.
Dexter's plan was always to target the type of people who were menaces to society, and it just so happens that one of those is killing people around in Upstate New York.
Dexter is put in a precarious situation as he tries to come to terms with the past and how he can return to his old ways in the name of saving the lives of some new people.
The issue plaguing him is that his The Passenger remains with him in the form of his dearly departed sister, Deb.
This iteration of Deb is not impressed with Dexter's ways, pegging him a serial killer and a monster.

Dexter Morgan (Michael C. Hall) is back and he’s ready to show off his next evolution. It’s been eight years since the serial killer/crime-stopper graced our screens, and while he looks to have settled into a new life, it’s not without complications. The latest trailer for Showtime’s revival season shows that as much as Dexter hopes to secure normality, killers just can’t seem to stop killing.
After the events of the series finale, Dexter moved on, settling into the small town of Iron Lake, New York. He spends his days dancing, working in a store, and hanging out with town sheriff, Angela (Julia Jones). But when a child goes missing and bodies turn up, it’s hard for Dexter not to get involved. Along the way, there’s his (ghostly?) sister, Deb (Jennifer Carpenter), and a reunion with his grown son, Harrison (Jack Alcott...

Dexter: New Blood is making way for some old blood as the newest trailer released by Showtime unveils the return of Jennifer Carpenter as his adoptive sister Debra Morgan. The revealing teaser sees Michael C. Hall‘s titular killer living under the alias of James Lindsay in the small fictional town of Iron Lake, New York. Set 10 years after Dexter went missing in the eye of Hurricane Laura, his life has changed a lot since taking on his new identity. (Credit: Seacia Pavao/Showtime) Embracing a romance with the town’s police chief Angela Bishop (Julia Jones), Dexter is attempting to put his past behind him, but old habits die hard. As the trailer teases a slew of missing young people without any rhyme or reason for their disappearances, Dexter’s Dark Passenger begins to awaken. Whispering in his ear is the apparent ghost of Debra who tells Dexter, “You are a serial killer,...

Showtime released the official trailer for the upcoming event series Dexter: New Blood, providing more than a few clues about what longtime fans of the killer show can expect.
For starters, Michael C. Hall’s Dexter Morgan clearly hasn’t outrun his Dark Passenger. “Monsters walk among us,” Dexter says in voiceover, after we’ve seen that a serial killer – the exact type that the avenging Dexter has always chosen as his victims – has been stalking his new Upstate New York territory. “I might still be a monster, but I’m an evolving monster.”
And just to make absolutely certain we get the sharp-edged point, we see Dex sharpening a meat cleaver, and hear his long-suffering sister Deb (Jennifer Carpenter) ask, “You can not wait to kill again – have you learned nothing?”

Yesterday at the 2021 Television Critics Association summer press tour, journalists were given a lot of new information about Showtime’s upcoming Dexter revival, Dexter: New Blood. The continuation of one of Showtime’s most popular dramas is one of the most anticipated series of the year, but so far, few details have been revealed. That all changed when showrunner Clyde Phillips and stars Michael C. Hall and Jennifer Carpenter started to spill their guts, metaphorically speaking, about what fans and skeptics alike can expect from the forthcoming miniseries.
First and most importantly, Phillips and co. knew that in continuing the story, they would have to contend with the original series’ infamous, contentious ending, and that there was no way to erase the sight of Dexter Morgan: lumberjack.
‘What we wanted to do was acknowledge the fact that almost a decade has passed,” Phillips told TCA attendees. “We didn’t want...

When “Dexter” returns in November after eight years, it will feature very few of the elements from the Showtime drama’s original run. That will include a change to the show’s famous opening credits.
“We haven’t really completely closed the idea of what the new titles are, but they will not [incorporate] the cheekiness of what we had before, the jauntiness and irony of what we had before,” Clyde Phillips, who is returning as showrunner, said. Phillips led the show’s first four seasons, which are considered its golden years by many fans. “The viewer should expect that the title sequence, if there is even a sequence … will be very different from what they’ve seen before.”

“Dexter” is coming back, and there will be (new) blood. Showtime previously announced that its revival of the hit crime drama series will premiere November 7, but more details were spilled during Tuesday’s virtual panel with the show’s stars and creators at the Television Critics Association Summer 2021 Press Tour.
The show’s cast and creators emphasized that though “New Blood” is a sequel to the original series, they intended to have the upcoming show stand on its own and did not rely on the same visual style or spend excessive time exploring what Dexter had been doing in the years since the events of the original show.
“We don’t spend a great deal of time in a flashback or anything like that in regard to where Dexter has been,” Hall said. “We’re led to believe that he has been somewhat nomadic. He’s doing more than just existing.

During the last eight years since Dexter Morgan faked his own death and went off the grid in Showtime’s serial killer drama, he has lived a “nomadic” existence according to star and executive producer Michael C. Hall. But when the continuation limited series, “Dexter: New Blood,” picks back up with him, he has settled down in the fictional small town of Iron Lake, N.Y. Only, he has settled down alone, having left his young son Harrison with his serial killer ex Hannah (Yvonne Strahovski).

The Dark Passenger is back. Dexter Morgan is returning to Showtime in Dexter: New Blood, and the new limited series appears to be aiming to erase the, let’s call it contentious, reputation of the Dexter series finale. You can check out the first look at Dexter: New Blood below.
Michael C. Hall is back as everyone’s favorite compulsive serial killer, this time taking up residence in snowy upstate New York under the alias Jim Lindsay (the name appears to be a nod to Dexter creator Jeff Lindsay). Dexter is once again hiding in plain sight, but he knows that “Every day I walk through this world, faking it. Knowing if someone knows who I am, that’s it.” Dex doesn’t appear to have changed his look much, meaning that in the world of Dexter, you can still count on the FBI to be pretty incompetent.

It's been a long time coming for Dexter fans.
Later this year, the series returns with a new limited series called Dexter: New Blood, and it comes several years after fans reacted in shock and anger to the original series finale.
Michael C. Hall was candid about bringing the show back during the Comic Con@Home panel for the series over the weekend, and it sounds like the maligned finale was a big part of bringing the show back.
"It was a huge part of it. I think the ending was mystifying at best to people, confounding, exasperating, frustrating, on down the line of negative adjectives," Hall said during the panel.
"I think this is a show that's very important to all of us, and the chance to revisit it and maybe in the process, redefine the sense of the show's ending and the sense of the show's legacy more...

Michael C. Hall’s Dexter tries to blend in as a townie in the new trailer for Dexter: New Blood, set to premiere November 7th on Showtime.
The 10-episode revival finds Dexter living under an assumed name, Jim Lindsay, while residing in snowy Iron Lake, New York, where he runs a sporting goods store. Although in the new clip Dexter/Jim seems generally well-adjusted, he’s also doing a lot of brooding over the possibility that his real identity might come out, while simultaneously struggling to repress his urge to maim and kill.
