Masterpiece has released a trailer for the upcoming final season of Sanditon, the drama inspired by Jane Austen’s final, unfinished novel, that was adapted and created by Andrew Davies and produced by Red Planet Pictures.
The series took on its own direction (Austen only finished 11 chapters before her death) and writer Justin Young took the helm as lead writer and executive producer for seasons 2 and 3. The drama will premiere on 9 p.m. Sunday, March 19, on PBS. The series also will be available to stream the same day.
Returning characters for Season 3 include Charlotte Heywood (Rose Williams), Georgiana Lambe (Crystal Clarke), Alexander Colbourne (Ben Lloyd-Hughes), Tom Parker (Kris Marshall), Mary Parker (Kate Ashfield), Lady Denham (Anne Reid), Edward Denham (Jack Fox), Arthur Parker (Turlough Convery), Lady Susan (Sophie Winkleman), and Ralph Starling (Cai Brigden).
More new faces are joining the series, like Lady Montrose, who is the quintessential Austen mother. She arrives in Sanditon with one objective: matches for her children, Lydia and Henry. Lydia is an independent young woman who is not as eager for a match as her mother, while Lord Henry Montrose is charismatic and confident, but he holds a secret.
There’s also Rowleigh Pryce, a wealthy, curmudgeonly investor who is interested in teaming up with Tom Parker on the seaside resort’s expansion. Their plans become complicated when Rowleigh runs into Lady Denham. Also new to Sanditon is Alexander’s brother, Samuel Colbourne – a lawyer, and a charming bachelor.

The Transformers mythology is an eons-long inter-galactic tale that is rich in its own history. We have the rise of intelligent techno-organic lifeforms, a split between rival points of view, and a struggle for supremacy. All along the way, for reasons that are never spelled out in their history, Earth has been of particular interest to the Autobots and Decepticons.
That much has powered countless comics, animated episodes, and four live-action feature films. Rather than marvel at the wonders of the cosmos or reveal to us why the planet is important, the fifth installment, The Last Knight, retrofit the Knights of the Round Table to an already convoluted and, frankly, boring film series. This film, out now on disc from Paramount Home Entertainment, more or less retreads the first four films, mixing returning humans and Transformers and adding in a few new figures to freshen things, and yet, no one cares.

For “The Last Knight,” Michael Bay headed toward classy and medieval, traveling to England and riffing on King Arthur with a bevy of new Transformers. Along the way, Mark Wahlberg’s Cade Yeager enlists the aid of an eccentric historian (Anthony Hopkins), a street-wise teenage orphan (Isabela Moner), and an alluring Oxford professor (Laura Haddock).
For Industrial Light & Magic, the challenge was animating even more complex and detailed metallic creatures for higher-resolution action sequences using IMAX 3D cameras. “It’s about craftsmanship and artistry and it doesn’t get easier on any of these films,” said Ilm’s VFX supervisor, Scott Farrar, who has labored on all five “Transformers” movies. “The number of parts on Optimus Prime, for instance, went up from about 10,000 parts to 22,000 parts. That means more difficult rendering for achieving a photoreal look.”
Dragonstorm and the Knights of Cybertron
In a prologue, we’re introduced to the origin story of the Transformers on Earth. A thousand years ago, the Knights of the Cybertron helped out King Arthur (Liam Garrigan) and his Knights of the Roundtable in their war with the Saxons. This was the result of a pact with a drunken and inept Merlin (Stanley Tucci), who was granted use of the three-headed, fire breathing Dragonstorm.
“The nearly 100-foot dragon contains large, metallic thorns and has a tarnished look,” said Farrar. “It took thousands of pieces. No matter which way you look, he’s gonna spear you. So he’s fairly deadly,” he added.
Some of the best-looking shots in the movie were based on sunny afternoon cloud plate shots from Lear jets and helicopters over England, Texas, and Detroit. “Once you start with a gorgeous setting such as this, then the dragon becomes similarly backlit,” Farrar said. “And the more backlight or edge light that you can have, the more realistic it looks.”
Quintessa, the Sorceress from Cybertron
We’re also introduced to the creator of Optimus and the other Transformers, Quintessa, a beautiful and powerful sorceress from Cybertron. This deity took months to build and is comprised of thousands of intricate pieces.
Quintessa is very regal-looking with a cowl collar and long, flowing cape. Ilm even goes further with an ethereal vibe. She resembles pearlescent seaweed in a pool. Her face was modeled after actress Gemma Chan, who recorded her voice, though there’s a slight resemblance to Optimus, too. “We matchmoved to her and created our character, for the face at least, and some of the arm motion,” said Farrar.
It’s like she’s made of small louvered pieces that act like veins, always moving and all reflective. “She is lit only by what the reflected light is doing for her, so you have to position lights everywhere around her,” said Farrar.
Cogman the Manservant
Then there’s the witty, snarky, sociopathic Cogman (voiced by “Downton Abbey’s” Jim Carter), butler to Hopkins’ Sir Edmund Burton. Like “Rogue One’s” unfiltered droid, K-2So, he steals the movie.
“I think he’s one of the most beautiful creations that we’ve come up with,” said Farrar. “The original idea was that he was a turn of the century automaton. But he can run around, and you can see all the gears that are running inside his face, neck, sternum, chest, and shoulders. It’s like he’s made from fine pieces from a very expensive French watch.”
The key-framed Cogman is also highly reflective. He’s made of silvery metal armor with copper and brass, and shines with warm colors. “It’s all about the detail in proximity to the camera for important acting moments,” said Farrar. “We do ultra-closeups in camera so it all looks hand-tooled and hand-made.”

Here is the synopsis for “Transformers: The Last Knight”:
“Transformers: The Last Knight” shatters the core myths of the “Transformers” franchise and redefines what it means to be a hero. Humans and Transformers are at war; Optimus Prime is gone. The key to saving our future lies buried in the secrets of the past – in the hidden history of Transformers on Earth.
Saving our world falls upon the shoulders of an unlikely alliance: Cade Yeager (Mark Wahlberg); Bumblebee; an English lord (Anthony Hopkins); and an Oxford professor (Laura Haddock). There comes a moment in everyone’s life when we are called upon to make a difference. In “Transformers: The Last Knight,” the hunted will become heroes and heroes will become villains. Only one world will survive: theirs or ours.

As Paramount’s promotional campaign for The Last Knight begins to enter the homestretch, the Internet is currently awash with scintillating promos, eye-popping trailers, and genuinely intriguing featurettes designed to uncover the secret history of Transformers.
That journey through time, one that is poised to whisk viewers all the way back to King Arthur (Liam Garrigan) and the knights of the round table, was made possible by Paramount’s decision to form a writers room and, by effect, future-proof the Transformers series. What began as a tight-knit brain trust assembled by Akiva Goldsman soon expanded to include the likes of Robert Kirkman (The Walking Dead), Zak Penn (Pacific Rim: Uprising), Jeff Pinkner (The Amazing Spider-Man 2) and Iron Man duo Art Marcum and Matt Holloway, leading to the creation of 14 story ideas peppered across the Transformers franchise. A Cybertron prequel movie and an historical epic have been floated in the past,...

They have been here forever, it seems, and on June 21st, Paramount and director Michael Bay will let moviegoers in on the secret history of Transformers, a wartorn lineage that seemingly stretches all the way back to the dawn of human civilization.
Just yesterday, for instance, we got a sneak peek at a towering, old-timey robot in disguise as it’ll appear in next month’s action sequel, Transformers: The Last Knight. Clad in medieval armor, the Transformer loomed over an ongoing battle between King Arthur’s (Liam Garrigan) army and an invading enemy force. Indeed, the Arthurian legend is set to feature quite heavily in Michael Bay’s all-star blockbuster, after Bumblebee and the remaining Autobots – flanked by human allies such as Cade Yeager (Mark Wahlberg) and Izabella (Isabela Moner) – embark on a mission to find a powerful artifact from a bygone era.

Nipping at the heels of this morning’s history lesson, in which Anthony Hopkins’ wise old professor Sir Edmund Burton cast light on the secret history of Transformers, Paramount has conjured up the latest and suitably medieval poster for Transformers: The Last Knight.
Tethered to the tagline “they have been here forever” – a feeling that many harbor toward the entire Transformers franchise, never mind the actual robots in disguise – it’s a one-sheet that simply demands your attention. Front and center is one of the film’s old-school Transformers. Clad in medieval armor, the ash-grey mech towers over a raging battle, which will surely involve Liam Garrigan’s King Arthur in some capacity. It also begs the question: how can medieval warriors expect to topple a Transformer with an arsenal limited to swords and shields? Trebuchets ought to come in handy, but we’re intrigued to find out how Michael Bay...

Ten years ago, Paramount and Michael Bay unleashed their live-action version of Transformers upon the moviegoing masses and in doing so, spawned one of the most lucrative – and, frankly, critically derided – franchises in all of Hollywood.
And so, after the Fallen staged their revenge – after Bay courted viewers to the Dark of the Moon, and after the relatively short-lived Age of Extinction – we’re now teetering on the verge of Transformers: The Last Knight, the fifth entry into Paramount’s effects-laden juggernaut that looks set to signal the end of Michael Bay’s involvement in the series. You know, providing the director doesn’t pull yet another U-turn over the coming weeks and months.
Regardless, if previous Transformers movies dabbled with alternate timelines – think of how the first movie incorporated the Hoover Dam into its plot, or the fact that Revenge of the Fallen laid waste to the Pyramids of...

"These are troubled times... without leaders, chaos reigns." Paramount has released the third trailer for Michael Bay's latest Transformers movie, titled in full Transformers: The Last Knight. The last trailer we posted was focused on the young kids in the movie, but this one gives us a full look at everything going on. These movies (and the robots) keep getting bigger and bigger, with so much epic action it's hard to even comprehend what we're seeing. The huge ensemble cast includes Mark Wahlberg, Anthony Hopkins, Laura Haddock, John Goodman, Stanley Tucci, John Turturro, Josh Duhamel, Isabela Moner, Santiago Cabrera, and Liam Garrigan as King Arthur; plus the same Transformer voices as before: Peter Cullen, Frank Welker and Ken Watanabe. My sci-fi side makes me want to see this just because, but I'm still not that interested in any more Transformers films. I'm on the fence with this. What about you?...

Ready to roll out? With a June 23rd release date fast approaching, the new and seemingly final trailer for Transformers: The Last Knight has arrived online – and it’s a doozy.
Taking a deep dive into the history of those iconic robots in disguise, the promo opens with a shot of ancient Transformers drawing their metallic swords alongside King Arthur (Liam Garrigan) and the knights of the roundtable. True to early rumors, Michael Bay’s blockbuster sequel upholds tradition in that it takes a key moment from human history and gives it a revisionist twist. And so, after incorporating the Hoover Dam and the Apollo 11 Moon mission into the Tf timeline, Bay and his writing team have pinpointed the legend of King Arthur, and up above you’ll be able to get a glimpse of the film’s truly spectacular medieval battle sequences.

As much as I know that most of us are not that excited for this movie, this is one of the best featurettes I've ever seen. There's tons of cool behind-the-scenes footage, it's almost all Bay showing us a look at his workplace(s), and it's not made up of existing footage that we've already seen in other trailers. If you’re still pining for more Transformers: The Last Knight content following yesterday’s deluge of motion posters, Paramount has just the answer: the official and downright mythic IMAX poster for Michael Bay’s blockbuster sequel.
Rather than shining the spotlight on an eye-popping set piece, or franchise veteran Optimus Prime striking a battle pose, this evocative one-sheet is actually engraved onto a colossal Arthurian shield. First spotted by TFW2005 (via /Film), if you lean close enough you’ll be able to pinpoint some of The Last Knight‘s major story elements, including the advent of Dragonstorm, a Cybertronian Knight capable of morphing into a mechanical three-headed dragon that was first teased almost a year ago. Other narrative clues include a nod to Unicron (or is that Cybertron?) on a collision course with planet Earth, not to mention Optimus and Megatron presiding over two separate armies of robots.

‘Tis the season for Super Bowl stingers.
As a matter of fact, Paramount has been drumming up excitement for its 2017 slate for a while now. Production continues apace on the London set of Transformers: The Last Knight – bringing the sci-fi action further south after a brief pit stop in Skye, Scotland – and Just Jared has unveiled a fresh batch of set photos to prove it. According to Mashable, the one and only King Arthur Pendragon is, indeed, jumping into the Autobots vs. Decepticon drama of Transformers: The Last Knight, seemingly confirmed with the reported casting of Liam Garrigan for the part. Of course, fans of ABC’s Once Upon a Time might be surprised to hear that, seeing as Garrigan already has been...

There was no detail outlined on the character, but I guess I'm to assume he's playing a human? There isn't a Transformer version of King Arthur, is there? Exactly where is this movie headed?! I guess we'll find out when a trailer finally comes out. ...

Director Michael Bay recently shared a video from the Scottish Isle of Skye, where he is currently shooting the fifth installment in Paramount’s block-busting franchise, Transformers: The Last Knight. The footage seemed to add credence to the rumor that this latest robots in disguise adventure would draw heavily upon Arthurian legend for its plot, and this latest casting announcement most certainly confirms it.
According to Mashable, 34-year-old British actor Liam Garrigan (24: Live Another Day, Strike Back) will play none other than the good King Arthur Pendragon himself in the movie. Now, if that sounds familiar, it’s because he recently appeared as the exact same character on ABC’s Once Upon a Time. So, either Bay is a big fan of the show, or this is simply a coincidence – either way, at least we know Garrigan has some experience.

It was reported some time ago that King Arthur and Merlin are expected to factor into Transformers: The Last Knight, and the former has now been cast in the upcoming fifth instalment of Michael Bay's divisive franchise. However, the director doesn't deserve any points for originality as Mashable reports that Liam Garrigan has actually been cast in the role he's already played in Once Upon a Time! On the plus side, we at least know that he's qualified to play the iconic British legend. Garrigan's other small screen credits include the likes of 24: Live Another Day and Strike Back while he also had a leading role in The Legends of Hercules. This is an interesting bit of casting as it now confirms that we'll be spending some time in the past in The Last Knight...unless Bay brings Arthur to the present that is! Set to be released on June 23rd next year,...
