Wes Craven made some very underrated movies. There was Deadly Friend, The Serpent and the Rainbow, and The People Under the Stairs, all of which have found new appreciation as the years passed. However, one of his movies that I always thought should have been a major hit was his 1989 flick Shocker. This was Craven’s attempt to make his own Freddy Krueger-style slasher, Horace Pinker (future X-Files star Mitch Pileggi), who, upon his execution, becomes an unstoppable force of energy who goes on a massive killing spree. The only one who can stop him is a teenager (Peter Berg – long before he became a director) whose girlfriend was among Picker’s victims and has a psychic connection to the killer.
While Craven and Universal probably hoped the film would become a hit, it whiffed at the box office, only making about $16 million, although it became a horror favourite on VHS.

Last week, both Peter Frampton and Megadeth canceled concerts scheduled just two days apart at Virginia Credit Union Live in Richmond, Virginia. While onstage in Philadelphia a few days later, Frampton threw Megadeth under the bus with claims that the show couldn’t go on due to structural damage sustained during the band’s soundcheck at the venue. “I’m not blaming them — could have been another band — but it looks pretty like it,” he said. “So, sorry, Megadeth. I had to rat on you.” From the other end of the pointed finger,...

Peter Frampton is known for using a talk box onstage, but we’ve never known him to talk out of his ass. However, that’s what Megadeth frontman Dave Mustaine is accusing the classic rocker of doing in an exchange of words regarding the cancelation of both acts’ shows at the same venue.
As it was, Megadeth canceled their September 15th gig at the Virginia Credit Union Live! at Richmond Raceway in Richmond, Virginia “due to unexpected and unpredictable circumstances.”

Frampton was scheduled to play at the same venue two days later, but also had to cancel his concert “due to unforeseen circumstances.” While performing in Philadelphia on the 19th, Frampton seemed to place the blame on Megadeth.
“So, we had a show canceled the other day because of weather,” Frampton told the crowd. “And also Megadeth did a soundcheck, I think a couple of days before our show,...

Megadeth surprised fans with an impromptu acoustic set in front of the Hotel Madero in Buenos Aires.
Local Argentinians and Megadeth faithful who happened to catch the performance were treated to unplugged renditions of “Trust,” “Angry Again,” and “Symphony of Destruction.” And by unplugged, we mean totally acoustic — no mics, open air. Drummer Dirk Verbeuren doesn’t even have an instrument and instead slaps his thighs to the beat.
In the fan-filmed footage, the gathered crowd sings along soccer-chant style and actually overtakes the band in volume.
The pop-up set reprises Megadeth’s previous outside-of-hotel acoustic sets in Buenos Aires in 2016 (Four Seasons) and in 2018, when Mustaine played a surprise unplugged solo set for fans outside a hotel in Mendoza, Argentina, during a brief vacation following shows in Mexico.
Megadeth’s current Latin American tour runs through the end of April, followed by a European jaunt in June (tickets available here.

Cannibal Corpse now have their own coloring book — and it’s already been banned for sale in Germany.
The Official Cannibal Corpse Colouring Book arrives December 1st via UK publisher Rock ‘N’ Roll Colouring, also the makers of coloring books featuring Iron Maiden, Alice Cooper, Megadeth, and more. But beware, as it comes with a “Parental Advisory” sticker for “explicit artwork.”
Officially endorsed by the death metal pioneers, the book features color-in versions of longtime Cannibal Corpse designer Vince Locke’s iconic artwork. The goopy, gory album covers for the band’s 1990 debut Eaten Back To Life up through this year’s most recent Chaos Horrific can now be customized to the color palette of your desire.
In Locke’s own words, you might want to have a few extra red crayons/pencils/markers on hand.

Megadeth frontman Dave Mustaine had a a handful of security guards ejected from the band’s show on Wednesday night (September 27th) in Bloomington, Illinois, accusing them of roughing up a fan.
As the band was playing the classic “Symphony of Destruction” toward the end of the set, Mustaine stopped the song to address the guards, shouting, “Dudes, don’t be fucking hitting people. That is totally uncool. Hey, fuckin’ stop hitting that guy.”
The metal legend then ran over to where the skirmish was happening, and pointed out the security guards who were involved in the incident, appearing to scold them, as well.
He then returned to the mic, declaring, “I’m not gonna play anymore until those guys are escorted out of the building, so just hang on a second. That was so fuckin’ unnecessary. That was so fuckin’ unnecessary, you guys. … What’s on the back of your shirt?...

“I have something very special I need to tell you guys… A couple of weeks ago I just bought a house in Italy,” Mustaine said [as transcribed by Blabbermouth]. “So think about that — you wake up tomorrow morning and you see me out your window, and I’m walking with my boxes. Megadeth have settled a copyright lawsuit stemming from the artwork for their latest album, The Sick, the Dying… and the Dead!.
Back in February, New York-based illustrator Brent Elliott White sued the band, claiming that hundreds of hours of work had gone unpaid and that he still owned the copyright to the art featuring Megadeth’s iconic mascot Vic Rattlehead.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, both parties filed a joint notice of settlement last Thursday (May 11th), informing the court that they had “reached an agreement in principle for the resolution of this action.” A stipulation of dismissal is expected to be filed within 30 days, and “the matter has been resolved amicably,” per White’s attorney Matthew Cave.
White, who has also created art for Trivium and Death Angel, among others, was initially contacted to work on the Megadeth sleeve in early 2020, but no written contract was signed at that time.

A lawsuit over the cover of Megadeth’s latest album, The Sick, the Dying … and the Dead! has ended in a draw.
New York-based illustrator and designer Brent Elliott White in February sued the band, Universal Music Group and others alleging that he hadn’t been paid for hundreds of hours of work — and that because they’d never finalized their contract he still owned the copyright in the art. White, who said he “created artwork and characters over time for Megadeth that have become an integral part of the band’s identity,” also claimed his art was featured in Rolling Stone without crediting him and licensed to third parties for merchandise without his permission.

With each subsequent interview, ex-Megadeth bassist David Ellefson opens up a little bit more about his unceremonious removal from the band in 2021 following a highly publicized online sexual encounter.
Speaking with Spanish site The Metal Circus, Ellefson let it all out in a tell-all interview that hit on his exit from Megadeth, the aforementioned sexual incident, and Ellefson’s current musical endeavors — which even includes playing Megadeth covers in his Kings of Thrash project.
Ellefson said he didn’t choose to leave Megadeth and is “clearly not mad about the past.” He still considers himself an “ambassador” for the group due to his lengthy history as its bassist.
“I think I’m being very respectful toward it despite how my dismissal was handled,” he said [as transcribed by Blabbermouth]. “I think I’ve gone above and beyond being respectful.”

While there's tons of general excitement surrounding DC's upcoming film Suicide Squad, there's still plenty about the film's characters that is unknown. After all, outside of The Joker, Harley Quinn, Deadshot, and maybe Killer Croc, none of the film's main characters has ever really had a true mainstream following. This, of course, is of great benefit to writer-director David Ayer, because it allows him some creative space to work with. It can also be a boon to the actors inhabiting the roles, who can have fun- essentially- creating what will become the best known version of these characters.
One of the actors who's having fun with their Suicide Squad character is Cara Delevingne. In fact, when it comes to her, it sounds like you can add an "S" at the end because she's really playing two characters in the film. One is Julie Moon, who she describes as "an adventure...

Like a frenzied fever dream that’s fueled by the power of righteous heavy metal, Wes Craven’s Shocker is certainly one of the Master of Horror’s more oddball cult classics, an amalgam of Craven’s most ambitious ideas and a viciously wild visual style that’s far more innovative than most have given it credit for over the last 26 years since it was first released. While the name Horace Pinker may not necessarily be as marketable as, say, Freddy Krueger, what this cinematic killer does bring to the table in terms of savagery and a darkly comedic cruelty is legendary in his own right.
Shocker opens similarly to Craven’s A Nightmare on Elm Street where we see the film’s killer, Horace Pinker (Mitch Pileggi), working away in his grungy hideout, no doubt making nefarious plans for his future victims. We soon learn that Horace isn’t...

Now here's a holiday album every child of the 80s would buy: On Monday's episode of "Jimmy Kimmel Live!," Megadeth promoted a fake compilation called "Thrashing Through the Snow: A Very Megadeth Christmas" -- which includes a duet with indie darling Jenny Lewis. Watch the clip below. Dressed in holiday sweaters, frontman Dave Mustaine and his bandmates growl out metal renditions of "Frosty the Snowman," "The Little Drummer Boy" and "Do You Hear What I Hear?" as little children cower in the corner and cover their ears. The band also manages to scare off Lewis, who realizes a few lines...

Americans know December as that special time of year when people put aside their differences to come together and record irrelevant Christmas albums, which this holiday season means regrettable releases from acts like Kool & the Gang and the cast of Duck Dynasty. Rarely, however, do we get our jingle bells rung by anyone that shreds as hard as trash metal-ers Megadeth, who spread their own, heavily distorted version of yuletide cheer last night on Jimmy Kimmel Live!....

From the Commodore 64 to the modern day, check out 35 of videogaming's best ever soundtracks (and listen to them here...)
Games are often praised for their amazing visuals, deep, complex gameplay and well-written narrative, but music is also a big part of the media. Just as it forms an essential part of any movie's atmosphere, games need the right soundtrack in order to fully immerse the player into the game world. A rousing audio track can stir the emotions, properly relay the heroic nature of a protagonist, or instil fear when needed.
Games soundtracks are, arguably, much more important than other media, as the player is the star, in full control of the action. Whilst music in movies is hugely important, in a game the audio doesn't just accompany the visuals, but has to pair up perfectly with the player's actions and the events onscreen...

Wes Craven’s 1984 magnum opus – A Nightmare on Elm Street – transcended the horror genre with an icon for the ages. Cinema had never seen a villian like him before, or since – a child murderer who returns from the grave to avenge his death after the “Elm Street” parents exact retribution by catching him on fire for the murders of their children. The real genius is introducing the rubber reality realm as a way by which Freddy could invade your dreams. We all have to sleep sometimes, and if you do, a butchering is awaiting.
For the film to get made though, Wes gave up rights to New Line’s CEO Bob Shaye, leading to legal entanglements that caused serious friction between the two over the years. Though Wes would eventually return to the franchise he created in 1994 [New Nightmare], he yearned to establish a new madman to call his own.

Welcome to the second Pajiba Real-Time Review of the Grammys. I have no idea why I volunteered to do this, other than a) I enjoy massive amounts of suffering and b) it gives me an opportunity to be the disgusting music snob that I am. Probably more a than b. For tonight's show, I'm joined by a large, ornery cat and half a bottle of Bushmill's Irish Whiskey. Let's boogie.

Remember the days when the best way to see early footage of a movie you might want to see was in the music video for a soundtrack single? I think my memories of Shocker (come on, it was Wes Craven before he was really terrible) are more from the Megadeth video than the actual movie. Now tidbits of new footage from Surrogates, directed by Jonathan Mostow and starring Bruce Willis, is in a Breaking Benjamin video on MySpace. In addition, check out a featurette on the film that we didn't run when it appeared recently, after the break. Surrogates is a film that has remained mostly under the radar for me. I know more about the poster that seemingly knocked off an image from Worth1000.com than I do the actual film, which is an adaptation of the comic book series and graphic novel by Robert Vendetti, Brett Weldele. The...

Every week, MTV Newsroom editor Kyle Anderson runs an in-office poll on the topic du jour. The idea is to acquaint you readers with some of the crazy people who inhabit the MTV newsroom. Last week's poll asked the difficult question: what is your favorite film soundtrack of all time?
As you've likely already figured out, that's a particularly relevant topic for MTV Movies Blog. I didn't have much trouble with my pick: "Tales from the Crypt: Demon Knight." Here's what I had to say to the Newsroom audience:
"This one is easy for me, though it may earn me a few behind-the-back snickers around the office. The soundtrack to "Tales from the Crypt: Demon Knight" remains my favorite to this day. It dropped while I was in high school, and every track was something I wanted to go home and crank up to 11. Let's start with the face-melting crunch: Sepultura,...

Welcome to the weekly Newsroom Poll, where we will give you a sneak peek into the lives and minds of some of the correspondents, writers, editors and producers here at MTVNews.com. Every week, they'll answer a poll question that will reveal some of what we talk about behind the scenes here in the newsroom. Enjoy!
This week, details surfaced about one of the most hotly anticipated albums of the fall. No, not Jay-z's The Blueprint 3 or Lil Wayne's Rebirth. We're talking about the soundtrack to "New Moon," which will likely feature contributions from Radiohead's Thom Yorke, Muse, Kings of Leon and Death Cab for Cutie. There was also the announcement of the soundtrack to "Jennifer's Body," the new Diablo Cody-penned horror film. With that, combined with the quarter-century anniversary of one of the finest film soundtracks ever constructed (that being Prince's Purple Rain), this week's question is:...

I'm not sure how the heavy metal and horror movie connection started but it's a match made in hell. The two go together like chocolate and peanut butter. It's a natural pairing. Alice Cooper had been combining Grand Guignol stage theatrics with live music since the 70's. Blue Oyster Cult wound horror and science fictions themes into their lyrics. Black Sabbath took their name from a Mario Bava movie yet the movies and the music maintained a safe distance from one another until heavy metal became the undisputed king of album sales in the mid to late 80's. The two seemed to officially become bed mates in 1986 with Friday the 13th Part 6 when the very same and this time very crazy Alice Cooper provided the synth happy track "He's back! (The Man Behind The Mask)" to the soundtrack. Before you knew it, Dokken was writing the theme song to my...
