Jason Dean Fortune or better known as J.D. Fortune, the winner of the
2005 CBS reality series, Rockstar: INXS was born on September 1, 1973
in Missisauga, Ontario. J.D. was raised as a kid in Salt Springs,
Pictou County by his mother. That eventually led him to carry his
mother's maiden name, Fortune. His birth name is Jason Dean Benninson,
Benninson being his estranged father's family name.
The 6' 2" tall star has been living in Canada almost all his life
together with his younger sister Sarah-Jane. Even though J.D. frequently
attended school, he dropped out not having go through his last few
moments at his high school. In Canada, J.D. worked as a serviceman in
the Canadian military, a martial arts teacher and an Elvis impersonator
at local pubs.
Just before he was signed to do the CBS reality show, J.D. was
apparently living in his car with his pug named Elvis after the rock
and roll legend, Elvis Presley. After getting signed to do the reality
television show, J.D. eventually moved to the rock star mansion where
contestants of the reality show were asked to live in.
In Rockstar: INXS, J.D. was said to be overly-confident which resulted
a controversy among his house mates. Eventually, after J.D. bottom
three of the reality series, J.D. started to realized that he should
just be himself and be more of a humble person. His humility finally
paid as he was crowned the winner of the show and he became the new
lead singer of INXS.
Being part of INXS is a great experience for J.D. as when he was
younger, he used to be a fan of the band. His song, Pretty Vegas which
he co-wrote and sang for INXS is the highest position that INXS has
ever reached on music charts. The video itself was also deemed as a big
hit as female fans got to see a more fit and toned version of J.D.
Fortune.
The band's second single, Afterglow from the album Switch since signing
J.D. also became a hit in Australia. The song was a tribute to the late
Michael Hutchence who fronted the band and later committed suicide.
Making the video also linked J.D. to model and actress Estella Warren
romantically. The duo are no longer together as they are said to have
eventually split.
J.D. is currently said to be working on some new solo project. Although
it has not been confirmed whether is he still going to perform with
INXS, the band's rep has said that J.D. did do their sophomore album
with them. At the mean time, J.D. is mostly seen around attending music
award shows. J.D. has so far proved to fans worldwide that he is able
to take over Michael Hutchence's place as INXS's lead singer and
hopefully, it'll stay that way. After all, it has been a magical
experience for him, from an INXS fan to actually being in INXS!
