Legendary Rock and Roll Hall of Fame member and front man for the Who Roger Daltrey has a solo North American tour on June 10. So he stopped by Bill Maher’s Real Time on Friday to do some reminiscing on his long career and what comes next.
After thanking Daltrey “for all the entertainment over the years,” Maher got right to the point: “I don’t remember seeing you with a shirt,” he said, offering a brief montage of Daltrey in his prime, sans shirt.
“A little bit too much information,” Daltrey said, and then admitted, “I get incredibly hot when I sing. It’s like a furnace.” Still, he allowed, at 80 years old, he’s more likely to keep the shirt on this time around.

Trump has been charged with 34 felony counts of falsifying business records. The chants and shouts of pro-Palestinian demonstrators disrupted the entry to the Washington Hilton for this year’s White House Correspondents’ Association dinner, but once inside, attendees were greeted with what has become the usual scene: Celebrities on the red carpet, a crush for the security line and glitterati packed into a cavernous ballroom.
“I want to thank my wife for enduring lots of jokes and for agreeing to individually meet everyone in this room right after the ceremony,” the evening’s featured entertainer, Colin Jost, quipped about Scarlett Johansson, who posed for photos with a non-stop stream of attendees. She continued to do so later in the evening, at the Comcast-nbcu after party at the French ambassador’s residence.

George Conway, a top Republican lawyer who has been an outspoken critic of former president Donald Trump, has donated the maximum amount of $929,000 to President Joe Biden’s victory fund.
Conway, who divorced Kellyanne Conway, the ex-Trump White House counselor, is also going to headline a fundraiser for Biden on April 24, with a minimum donation of $500 per person.
The event will take place in Washington, D.C., marking the anti-Trump lawyer’s “first big pro-Biden event.”
Melissa Moss, a strategic consultant, and her husband, Jonathan Silver, are the lead hosts for the event.
The lawyer frequently appears on MSNBC to criticize Trump, calling him a “psychopath” and “sadistic.”
Conway said that he was hoping to “make amends” for supporting the former president in the past.
“I don’t like corrupt politicians,” Conway stated on C-span’s Washington Journal last December. “I don’t like liars. That’s what this is about.

TikTok is trying to stop the U.S. government from implementing a nationwide ban on the app, but its big move may have backfired. As the House of Representatives prepares to vote on a contentious bill introduced by a bipartisan group of Congresspeople, TikTok has prompted its U.S.-based users to call their Congressional reps and protest the measure.
The bill, co-authored by Mike Gallagher (R-wi) and Raja Krishnamoorthi (D-il), is the latest in a years-long series of proposals that, if enacted, would effectively ban TikTok in the United States. This particular bill would enforce its ban by pointing to China’s status as a “foreign adversary.” Congress has long harbored concerns about TikTok’s data security practice, and the bill would act on those fears by sidelining apps that could send data to China.
The House Commerce Committee passed Gallagher and Krishnamoorthi’s bill with a 50-0. The next...

Nikki Haley is — at least for now — refusing to drop out of the 2024 Republican primary. Following her second-place finish in New Hampshire, she delivered an upbeat concession speech, promising to continue her campaign at least through South Carolina’s primary later this month. The address infuriated Donald Trump and his allies, who falsely accused Haley of claiming victory.

A small contingent of journalists gathered near the Canadian border earlier this morning to watch as Dixville Notch, Nh, continued its tradition of casting the first ballots on an election day.
Nikki Haley cleaned Donald Trump’s clock in this hamlet — 6 votes to none.
As the day goes on, network correspondents are fanning out across the state at precincts to talk to actual voters, after months in which the first-in-the-nation primary was judged and assessed by polls. Commentary and analysis is focusing on whether
Haley and her top surrogate, New Hampshire Governor Chris Sununu, blitzed the airwaves on Monday, while Trump held a final rally in Laconia, Nh, where he predicted that Haley would be out of the race after tonight. He was interrupted by climate protesters, who have been a frequent presence at events in recent days.

Have you heard it’s cold in Des Moines? The subzero temperatures are making Monday’s caucuses in Iowa the coldest on record, a running theme of coverage throughout the day and into this evening. It’s not trivial, as the frigid weather may very well impact turnout.
As Iowa’s first votes of the 2024 presidential race come in, expect a lot of analysis, punditry and prediction, even if the results represent just a sliver of the primary electorate. The Hawkeye state’s primacy as the first-in-the-nation often obscures the peculiarities of the caucus system, unless there is some kind of glitch, which is what happened four years ago with the Democrats.
That said, networks see the caucuses as the kickoff of what is hoped a spike in viewer interest in the presidential contest, as was seen in 2020 and 2016. All of the broadcast networks are planning for ongoing coverage of...

Examining the growing pains of The 19th*, a non-profit, non-partisan news agency founded right before Covid swept the United States in 2020, Breaking the News is an immersive documentary exploring the importance of and some problems in their work. Founded by former Texas Tribune writers Emily Ramshaw and Amanda Zamora with their life savings as a digital-first, virtual enterprise, the outfit aims to address the gatekeeper problem in journalism: that most editors are still straight white men setting the agenda.
Kate Sosin, a nonbinary reporter who was an early hire, is tasked with covering all Lgtqia+ issues in the nation without much support. Candidly, Sosin speaks of feeling alienated by certain language used by Ramshaw and Zamora in staff emails touting the group as a “sisterhood,” while Ramshaw shares her concern over hiring a staff member that they fear they may not be able to properly support.

Christian evangelist Pat Robertson, who ran the Christian Broadcasting Network and sought the GOP presidential nomination, died Thursday at the age of 93.
His death was confirmed on his network, in a statement from his son, Gordon Robertson, who is also the network’s CEO and president. A memorial service will be held “in the coming days,” he said.
Robertson came to notoriety as the host of The 700 Club, a television channel which filtered guests, news and music through a Christian lens, but which also caused outcry over incendiary statements about 9/11, homosexuality, AIDs and more. That channel later became the tentpole of Robertson’s Christian Broadcasting Network, which he started as a small station in Virginia and grew into a money-making venture, thanks to contributions from viewers, and a powerful national network with great political influence.

President Joe Biden spent a great deal of his speech at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner on the fate of journalists held in captivity, vowing, “I promise you. I am working like hell to get them home.”

Melania Trump celebrated her 53rd birthday on Wednesday, which was an understated affair at Mar-a-Lago alongside her family.
The small celebration may have been inevitable for the former first lady as husband Donald Trump’s legal challenges grow by the day.
The celebration comes amid the former president’s legal battle with news columnist E. Jean Carroll, who is suing Trump for defamation and sexual assault. After a judge recently denied Trump’s request to delay the trial, Carroll’s lawsuit officially made its way to a court in New York City on Tuesday, when testimony began. Trump has denied allegations against him, saying that he knew “nothing about her” and that he thinks Carroll is “mentally sick.”
The judge in the case warned the former president’s lawyer’s against further “inappropriate” social media posts.
Earlier in the month, Trump was arrested in Manhattan for allegedly falsifying business records.

New polling from ABC News and Ipsos shows former president Donald Trump’s favorability ratings collapsing in the aftermath of his April 4 arraignment and indictment the week prior.

Former Trump campaign manager Kellyanne Conway appeared Wednesday on Fox News and used her time to once again push the narrative that both the government and media are consistently lying to the people in this country. Seth Meyers had a good laugh at the irony of that on Thursday night.
During her appearance on “Hannity,” Conway offered a “challenge” to those watching, specifically the ones “who don’t wear red hats, don’t consider themselves Maga, don’t consider themselves very strong political people.”
“I want you to ask yourself how many times you’ve been lied to, not just by this government, but how many times you were lied to by the people whose job it is to tell you the truth in media,” she said.

When comedian Chelsea Handler guest hosts “The Daily Show” later this month, she will be making a point to talk about certain people. And yes, that includes Congresswomen Lauren Boebert and Marjorie Taylor Greene.
While appearing on “The View” Thursday, host Joy Behar asked Handler point blank who should be concerned about being a target when Handler hosts, and of course, the comedian had a list ready. Handler noted that she is “chomping at the bit” to talk about Elon Musk and new GOP congressman George Santos. But her big focus will be the women in congress.
“The Marjorie Taylor Greenes and the Lauren Boeberts, I mean, it’s just too much to not talk about, you know?” Handler said. “And those are the kinds of women that you can go after, and I intend to do it, because they need to be called out. It’s so unwomanly to be behaving like that!

Kellyanne Conway admitted that the only person Donald Trump fears is his wife, Melania Trump.
In a transcript from the House investigation of the January 6 capitol riot, Conway told the committee that she tried reaching out to Melania during the riots to get through to the former president. The panel has been attempting to showcase how Trump refused to take action against the riots.

“I texted her, please – something to the effect of, you know, please talk to him, because I know he listens to her,” Conway said. “He reserves – he listens to many of us, but he reserves fear for one person, Melania Trump.”
Conway, who helped Trump get elected in 2016, said she didn’t speak to him during the riot and that his wife didn’t respond immediately. She testified that Melania “didn’t have her phone” at the time.

The mood out of Hollywood has been celebratory following Democratic Sen. Raphael Warnock’s win over Republican challenger Herschel Walker in Tuesday’s Georgia runoff election, the last high-profile outstanding race from the 2022 midterm elections.
Actors from Mark Ruffalo to Rosario Dawson and Kerry Washington cheered the victory, which gives Democrats an outright majority in the Senate for the remainder of President Joe Biden’s first term. Ruffalo also praised Warnock, who made history in 2021 when he became Georgia’s first Black senator, for now being the first Black Senator elected to a six-year term in the state’s history.

Things got a bit tense on “The View” on Monday, as hosts Alyssa Farah Griffin and Ana Navarro exchanged a few barbed comments about their work environments.
The conversation came late in Hot Topics, as the women discussed if the idea of “toxic femininity” is real, and something they’ve experienced in life. And for the most part, the hosts noted that they had, particularly in a work environment, but they all agreed that women should be supporting each other professionally.
“I think that women have made a ton of progress, but we can also be each other’s worst enemies. It’s still the case,” Alyssa Farah Griffin said. “And I hate to say it; some of the worst bosses I’ve had have been women, and sometimes colleagues in the workplace who were women. The recent decision by Warner Bros. Discovery to shelve the nearly finished DC superhero movie “Batgirl” left fans confused and outraged. But it has also yielded a trove of fantastic memes.
The 90 million Warner Bros. production, starring Leslie Grace as Barbara Gordon/Batgirl, won’t be released theatrically or on HBO Max, or anywhere else. Why? The media conglomerate determined that taking a tax write-off for “Batgirl” (and the animated “Scoob!: Holiday Haunt”) made more financial sense than releasing it commercially, Variety reported.

When President Joe Biden last week cited a report of a 10-year-old Ohio rape victim forced to travel out of state to Indiana to obtain an abortion, it quickly made national headlines in the heated environment following the Supreme Court’s overturning of Roe Vs. Wade.
In the days that followed, the story went viral, first as an example of the realities of new state abortion restrictions, then with doubts cast on the story by commentators on the right, such as Fox News’ Jesse Watters, who said Monday that if the story was not accurate, the mainstream media and Biden would be “seizing on another hoax.”

Bill Maher had a simple point to make on Friday night’s “Real Time” about what everyone is talking about these days: accountability for the onslaught of mass shootings in the country. Is it the person pulling the trigger, the lack of gun control laws, mental illness, etc? The comedian-host agrees it’s all of the above — but adds Hollywood’s glorification of guns and gun violence to the list.
“Now that we live in an age of uber-corporate responsibility, where every large company in America bends over backwards to get on the politically correct side of every issue, Hollywood has to tell us why doesn’t that include gun violence,” the comedian said.
Illustrating his point with a quick-cut montage of gunfire in a bunch of action-adventure films, he continued with his thought.

In the wake of mass shootings in Buffalo and Texas, many people are crying out for someone to “do something.” Yet some of the loudest voices in that chorus are among the biggest hypocrites when it comes to creating an atmosphere that promulgates violence among the feeble minded.
Bill Maher gave Hollywood a shot across the bow in his Friday Real Time on HBO, calling on the entertainment industry to look at its own culture of violence as a stimulant that creates justification for violent actions in some minds.
Maher noted how the average American kid sees an estimated 200,000 acts of violence before age 18. “Hollywood is the wokest place on earth,” Maher said, pointing out the good done under those principles. “But when it comes to romanticizing gun violence, crickets.”

In a bit of fortuitous timing, Bill Maher invited ex-Trump adviser Kellyanne Conway as a guest on this week’s “Real Time” — apparently having locked down her appearance weeks ago.
But the episode came just a day after the first night of the Jan. 6 commission’s congressional hearings, making Conway’s appearance extremely timely. She was, after all, one of Trump’s biggest advisers and supporters. So understandably, that topic was front and center as Maher, Conway and other panelist Josh Barro started chatting.
Throughout their discussion, Maher repeatedly tried to get Conway to stop defending Trump and say that maybe he shouldn’t be president again.
Thing is though, Conway has spent the last 6 years defending Trump. She’s good at that job. So obviously, Maher’s attempts to get her to turn on her old boss failed repeatedly. But at least the whole spectacle illustrated the folly of...

Seth Meyers used his “Closer Look” segment on Wednesday night to call out Republicans, and their response to calls for gun control nationwide. But he didn’t focus on the lack of legislation itself; he homed in on how the GOP has effectively rewritten the Second Amendment to avoid it altogether.

Jimmy Kimmel taped the monologue Tuesday’s episode of Jimmy Kimmel Live” before news broke of the horrific mass shooting at an elementary school in Texas in which 19 children were murdered — so as a result his monologue dealt with less heavy issues instead.

Kimmel talked about how Trump bilked the U.S. government out of millions of dollars because he billed them his own secret service detail — “It’s funny to think Donald Trump’s only profitable business venture was being President of the United States,” Kimmel joked.

In the initial hours after the horrific Texas school massacre, in which 18 children and one adult was killed, CNN’s Jake Tapper noted that politicians’ expressions of thoughts and prayers “has sadly become a cliche at this point.”
But even calling it a cliche seems like a cliche, because the mass shootings, and school massacres in particular, keep happening.
Ed Lavandera, covering the shooting for CNN, was able to give some insight to a reunification center that had been set up for parents at Ross Elementary, as he recalled the same set up for Sandy Hook Elementary. “You could hear the yelling and screaming of the parents who were there,” he said.
Later in the evening, one local reporter at the scene of the Texas shootings, Leigh Waldman of Ksat-tv in San Antonio, wrote on Twitter, “We just heard screams inside the civic center. Yet another family hearing the worst news possible.

Later in the evening, one local reporter at the scene of the Texas shootings, Leigh Waldman of Ksat-tv in San Antonio, wrote on Twitter, “We just heard screams inside the civic center. Yet another family hearing the worst news possible.

Kellyanne Conway stopped by “The View” on Tuesday, and things escalated pretty quickly. By the midpoint of the interview, she and her former White House colleague Alyssa Farah Griffin were nearly in an all-out yelling match.
Things started relatively amiably at the table — at least between the panelists — with Conway just promoting her book, explaining why she feels betrayed by her now anti-Trump husband, and airing a laundry list of grievances about Jared Kushner. But eventually, the hosts asked her more pointed questions about her support of Donald Trump, with Sunny Hostin leading the way.
When asked by Hostin if she would concede that the 2020 election was free and fair, and not stolen or rigged as Trump and his allies continue to allege, Conway got a bit snarky.
“I think it’s pretty obvious that Joe Biden is the president. I can’t believe we’re still talking about this,...

Seth Meyers took several digs at former Trump adviser Kellyanne Conway on Monday night over the news that she is releasing a book about her time in the White House.

Former Trump adviser Kellyanne Conway admitted in a new book what her former boss hates to hear: that he lost the 2020 presidential election.
“Stuck in a parallel universe, many Trump supporters deluded themselves into thinking that somehow the president would remain in office or be reinstated once gone. Trump was more shocked to lose in 2020, I think, than he was to win in 2016,” Conway writes in her new book Here’s the Deal, according to Politico. “I may have been the first person Donald Trump trusted in his inner circle...
