Just once, it would be refreshing to see a serial killer movie in which the detectives investigating a series of horrific murders were actually normal, well-adjusted individuals. The kind of cops who leave their work at the office, go home to their families, and drink only the occasional beer or glass of wine at dinner. The ones, in other words, who don’t live up to the title of the new thriller featuring a top-billed Samuel L. Jackson but in which the real leading player is Gianni Capaldi, who also co-scripted.
That’s definitely not the case with Damaged, a routine cop movie mainly distinguished by its extensive Scottish locations. Jackson plays Dan Lawson, a Chicago detective still haunted by a bunch of killings years earlier in which one of the victims was his own girlfriend. When a similar series of murders — in which the victims’ bodies are dismembered and...

Five years ago, a serial killer terrorized Chicago. Detective Dan Lawson was assigned to the case but couldn’t bring the killer to justice. It left him a badly damaged man, drinking on the job and obsessed with revenge. Doubly so because one of the victims was his own girlfriend whom he discovered, her head and limbs in the shape of a cross, her torso missing.
In Edinburgh, Detective Glen Boyd finds himself investigating a murder that looks to be the work of the same person. He reaches out to the Chicago Pd, who are only too happy to put Lawson on the next flight to Scotland. Fortunately, there weren’t any motherfucking snakes on this motherfucking plane.
Things, of course, don’t go well.

On March 27th of last year, we heard that filming was underway on a serial killer action thriller called Damaged, which had Samuel L. Jackson (Pulp Fiction) and Vincent Cassel (Black Swan) in the lead roles and director Terry McDonough, whose previous credits include episodes of the TV shows Killing Eve, Better Call Saul, and Breaking Bad, at the helm. Now, just eight days shy of the one year anniversary of that news, a trailer for Damaged has arrived online, along with some release date information: the film will be receiving a theatrical, digital, and on demand release on April 12th. The trailer can be seen in the embed above.
Jackson and Cassel are joined in the cast by Kate Dickie (The Witch), Gianni Capaldi (A Day to Die), Laura Haddock (White Lines), Brian McCardie (Rob Roy), and John Hannah (The Mummy). Here’s the synopsis: How do you catch a brilliant monster?...

"He's toying with you, Glen." Lionsgate has revealed an official trailer for the film Damaged, a mysterious serial killer action thriller from the UK. It's now set for release in the US in early April both on VOD and in theaters. The film follows Dan Lawson, a Chicago detective, who travels to Scotland to link up with Scottish Det. Glen Boyd, following the resurgence of a serial killer who's crimes match an unsolved case that he also looked into five years previous in Chicago. What is the connection? Samuel L. Jackson stars as Lawson, and Scottish actor Gianni Capaldi co-stars as Boyd, also credited on co-writing the screenplay. The official synopsis asks: "How do you catch a brilliant monster?" So this is Silence of the Lambs again? The cast also includes Vincent Cassel, Laura Haddock, John Hannah, Katie Dickie, and Brian McCardie. This doesn't look as bad as it could,...

In November 2006 Microsoft introduced the Zune, a digital music player designed to compete with Apple's iPod, which already had a five-year head start in the marketplace. But I don't have to tell you that. If there's one thing history has taught us, it's that you should never underestimate the appeal of a good old-fashioned Zune. The Zune's dominance of the digital marketplace continues today, and it's a very safe bet that every single person reading this article has a Zune in their pocket right now, probably playing all the latest hit songs from Puddle of Mudd and Sugar Ray.
Yes, yes, I kid, I kid. The Zune was discontinued in 2011 after lackluster sales, and seemed destined to fade into near-total obscurity until filmmaker James Gunn resurrected it as a cheap joke in 2017 at the end of "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2." After two whole feature films scored...

The scandalous love triangle between poet Robert Graves, his feminist wife and a charismatic American writer is the subject of this erotic and entertainingly silly film
Britain’s premier literary throuple is the subject of this gamey, borderline-silly but watchably acted movie, which might have sat more comfortably as a three-part Sunday night TV drama. Robert Graves (Tom Hughes) is the poet traumatised and creatively blocked by his experiences in the great war, Nancy Nicholson (Laura Haddock) is his forward-thinking feminist wife, and Laura Riding (Dianna Agron) is the charismatic American writer who comes to live with them in a scandalous menage.
Laura entrances them both sexually and stirs Robert’s stagnant juices in every sense, leading him to invent an entire pagan aesthetic around his adoration for her as the “goddess” at the centre of his poetic being – with Nancy’s slightly wan permission. But Riding’s irreverent lustiness...

When "Guardians of the Galaxy" first hit theaters in 2014, it was a surprising and massive success for the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Instead of showing audiences familiar faces in a post "The Avengers" super-powered New York City, "Guardians" offered a delightfully weird, grungy, and colorful space opera that tapped into something new. Once deemed "the riskiest Marvel film since 'Iron Man,'" it turned Chris Pratt from supporting funnyman to Hollywood leading man, gave Zoe Saldaña yet another prolific sci-fi role, and its '70s needle drops led to one of the best-selling movie soundtracks in history.
Most notably, however, the "Guardians" franchise transformed James Gunn's career from indie director to one of the most important figures in the comic book movie industry to date. After a conservative smear-campaign in 2018, Gunn was famously fired from directing "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3" in a reactive move from Disney corporate.

What sets James Gunn's superhero movies apart from the rest is his attention to character. His heroes always begin anything but; rather, they're selfish people broken by the past who find new purpose together. This, plus the right blend of humor and earnestness that most of his contemporaries can never strike, means that Gunn's movies do the "found family" trope much better than other blockbusters.
Aside from some detours in "Avengers" movies (and writing decisions that Gunn contests), the Guardians of the Galaxy have been Gunn's sole purview. That means he's crafted their character arcs as arcs, rather than just whatever characterization the shared universe demands. So where does that leave his lead, Peter Quill/Star-Lord (Chris Pratt) in "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3?"
/Film's Jenna Busch attended a press conference headlined by the "Guardians" cast. There, Pratt spoke about where Quill is at in this comic trilogy capper.

Sam Claflin was preparing to audition for the role of Billy Dunne in “Daisy Jones & the Six,” the Prime Video adaptation of Taylor Jenkins Reid’s bestselling novel about a fictional 1970s rock band, he was told he’d have to sing a ’70s rock song. So he scoured the Apple Music app for a genre playlist and chose the only track he felt comfortable with.

It seems like only yesterday that Noah Centineo's Owen Hendricks was singing "I Knew You Were Trouble" while peeing in the snow, totally unaware of the dozen different ways his life was about to go sideways. "The Recruit" premiered on Netflix in late December, with Centineo playing the titular CIA recruit who, despite technically being a lawyer, ended up caught in th middle of some very dangerous international shenanagins.
"The Recruit" apparently had a good audience turn out on Netflix, briefly dethroning super-hit "Wednesday" to sit at the top of the Top 10 before being pushed out by "Emily in Paris" (per Forbes). Since the streamer didn't put out any self-reported news trying to explain how many people watched "The Recruit" in the most vague and convoluted terms possible, one might assume the show didn't do massive numbers on the streamer. But "The Recruit" did do well enough to earn a second season,...

Spoiler Alert: This piece contains spoilers from the Season 1 finale of “The Recruit.”
In the final scene of Season 1 of “The Recruit,” CIA lawyer Owen Hendricks (Noah Centineo) wakes up bound to a chair in a dark, decrepit room and finds fugitive Max Meladze (Laura Haddock) — with whom he’s formed a tenuous alliance and nascent sexual relationship — also tied to a chair beside him. After Owen has gotten just enough time to register his own surroundings, a mysterious blond woman walks into the room, wielding a gun.
“Karolina?” Max gasps, uttering the name of her long-lost daughter. Karolina (Maddie Hasson) gives her mother a long look before shooting her in the chest.
She then turns her attention to Owen, who’s reeling from the shock of what’s just transpired. “Who are you?” she demands. “And what the fuck are you doing running around with my mother?”

“To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before” breakout Noah Centineo takes a starring role in the new Netflix series “The Recruit,” but he’s far from the only familiar face in the show. The original series hails from “The Rookie” creator Alexi Hawley and follows a young CIA lawyer whose first week on the job goes topsy turvy when he’s contacted by a woman claiming to be a former asset who’s threatening to expose secrets. Oh, and she’s in prison for murder. Twists and turns abound in the eight-episode first season, but if you’re curious how you know the actors populating this new show, we’ve got you covered.

There’s a moment in the new Netflix series “The Recruit,” starring Noah Centineo, when his character, Owen, finds himself in the middle of a shootout.
As he ducks from a hail of bullets, Owen recognizes one of the people working for the other side as a woman he met in a bar. He momentarily forgets about the life-threatening situation at hand and gives a small wave of acknowledgement to her. The woman responds by shooting at him. How rude!
It’s moments like these that make “The Recruit” an atypical CIA drama. Yes, Centineo’s Owen is a CIA employee who finds himself in the field à la Jack Ryan, but instead of immediately knowing what to do and how to defend himself, this CIA employee is an attorney who is immediately in over his head.

If anyone had any doubts about the power of Noah Centineo, Netflix’s “The Recruit” will put those to rest. The actor had a brief stint as the internet’s boyfriend when he starred as Peter Kazinsky in Netflix’s “To All the Boys” franchise, and recently appeared as a superhero in the Justice Society of America in “Black Adam,” but now, he gets the chance to prove that he’s a true leading man. In fact, he’s so charming in “The Recruit” that his charm is all the show really needs to be entertaining. Is this really what lawyers do at the CIA? I have no idea, and it kind of doesn’t matter. This show isn’t really about lawyers.

The Recruit is a new Netflix series starring Noah Centineo. It is written and created by Alexi Hawley.
Eight episodes of political intrigue and Geo-political machinations through which newbie CIA lawyer/agent has to navigate.
Premise The Recruit (2022-)
Owen Hendricks, a fledgling lawyer at the CIA that becomes enmeshed in dangerous international power politics when a former asset threatens to expose the nature of her long-term relationship with the agency unless they exonerate her of a serious crime.
About the Series
One might be conned into thinking that this is a comedy series, despite having been advertised as a thriller, action and adventure series. The initial scenes in the first episode are more reminiscent of The Office (2005-2012) than any other more somber spy themed TV show. The score certainly assists in lightening the mood, with its Get Smart‘ish melodies – however more contemporary.

It is possible, if you squint, to make out the darker, sharper show that Netflix’s CIA drama The Recruit could have been. Creator Alexi Hawley’s depiction of the agency is a thoroughly cynical one: In contrast to so many other spy fictions, no one’s out to save the world or even the country, and there’s little posturing about heroism or patriotism. The individuals working within it are largely impotent, venal or both, and the organization itself exists solely to ensure its own continued existence, ethics or legalities be damned.

Laura Haddock says the story for her character Max in the new CIA-themed show “The Recruit,” could have went one of three different ways.
The English actress is the co-star to Noah Centineo in Alexi Hawley’s highly anticipated action series, which follows a young CIA lawyer named Owen (Centineo), whose first week on the job becomes a dangerous adventure-filled mission when a former Russian asset threatens to expose her connection to the agency unless Owen helps clear her name.
Max, the Russian asset, is played by Haddock, who shared with TheWrap that she didn’t know about Max’s cliffhanger ending until she got the final scripts.
“Going into it, there were three different of versions of where we took Max,” Haddock said.

Noah Centineo is, perhaps, the archetypal Netflix star, a performer whose career has been in large part comprised of his work in teen romantic comedies for the streamer. Like the films in which he’s starred, Centineo has a charm that’s ephemeral; he’s an amiable presence, but one who slips out of mind shortly after viewing.
Which makes him a fit for a show with a lot of incident but no real center. “The Recruit,” a new Netflix drama created by Alexi Hawley, thrusts Centineo’s character Owen Hendricks into the midst of international spyjinks, throughout which he runs the emotional gamut from benignly interested to mildly nervous. It’s a show that ought to grip viewers — the pilot is directed by “Bourne Identity” helmer Doug Liman! — but instead drifts away as it unfolds.
The central idea is a canny enough one: Take the language of spy thrillers...
