Gravitas Ventures has acquired all North American rights to the comedy “An Actor Prepares,” starring Jeremy Irons, Jack Huston, Ben Schwartz and Mamie Gummer, Variety has learned exclusively.
Steve Clark directed from a script that he co-wrote with Thomas Moffett. The project was introduced at the 2016 Cannes Film Festival, where international sales were launched.
Irons portrays a famous, hard-drinking actor who suffers a heart attack and is forced to drive across the country to make it in time for the wedding of his daughter, played by Gummer. His only hope of making the wedding lies with his estranged son, played by Huston, is a devoted husband and professor who couldn’t be more different from his father. As the two set out on their adventure, they become closer and realize they are more alike than they thought.

Jonas Pate’s Shrink is a striking, fast-paced exposé of the “other” Hollywood, featuring folks living outside their comfort zone and the people who put them there. Henry Carter (Kevin Spacey) is a psychiatrist with an A-list clientele, including a once-famous actress (Saffron Burrows), an insecure young writer (Mark Webber), and a comically obsessive-compulsive superagent (Dallas Roberts).

What if the one person who is counted by others to hold them together is barely holding it together himself? In a brand new trailer of "Shrink" outed via Apple, Henry Carter portrayed by Academy Award-winning Kevin Spacey is introduced as the sought-after Hollywood psychiatrist, whose clients include a once-famous actress, an insecure young writer and a comically obsessive-compulsive superagent.
But, having a list of A-list clients doesn't mean that he is in a good place. Unable to cope with a recent personal tragedy, he turns into a pothead with no concern for his appearance. As a sense of inability to help his patients creeps into his mind, he is asked to take on his first pro-bono case. Now, he has to deal with the real-life troubles of a troubled teenage girl who loves the world of movies he has become so jaded by.

- Kevin Spacey has taken some crazy roles. His character in American Beauty has emotional trouble, to say the least, and his killer in Se7en is the thing nightmares are made of. So who could be better to play a troubled psychiatrist than Spacey? In Shrink, Spacey stars as a psychiatrist to the stars who fails to cope with his own personal tragedy. Instead, he becomes a disheveled pothead who loses faith in his practice. The famous Hollywood clients in the film are played by the nutty Robin Williams and famed author Gore Vidal, as well as Saffron Burrows, Jack Huston, Griffin Dunne, Pell James, Robert Loggia, Keke Palmer, Laura Ramsey, Dallas Roberts, and Mark Webber.Hopefully, the piece will not bare too much of a similarity to this summer's The Wackness, which is also about a pot-smoking psychiatrist.Shrink will be helmed by Jonas Pate, who recently directed three episodes of Friday Night Lights.
