“Teenage Dream” is arguably Katy Perry‘s signature song. One of the writers did not want to hand the track over to the “Dark Horse” singer, but she had to because she was in a desperate situation. The songwriter revealed why she felt so connected to “Teenage Dream.”
Katy Perry’s ‘Teenage Dream’ is connected to Britney Spears and Taio Cruz hits
Bonnie McKee is a professional songwriter who gave us Britney Spears’ “Hold It Against Me” and Taio Cruz’s “Dynamite.” She also co-wrote about half of Perry’s hits, including “Teenage Dream,” “California Gurls,” “Roar,” “Wide Awake,” “Birthday,” and “Part of Me.” During a 2013 interview with The Hollywood Reporter, McKee discussed the progression of her career. “It kept going up step by step by step where the names kept getting bigger and the sessions started getting more real,” she said.
McKee was asked which of her songs made her the most proud.

Groucho Marx was far from a sexy pop star, yet he inspired a Britney Spears song. That fact only makes the song weirder than it is on the surface. On top of that, another pop star wore a sexy dress that inspired the tune in question.
Britney Spears’ ‘Hold It Against Me’ is based on a Groucho Marx joke
In addition to being a movie star, Marx also hosted a show called You Bet Your Life. Stereogum reports he loved to use the suggestive line “If I said you had a beautiful body, would you hold it against me?” on the show. Eventually, a variation of that joke became the center of Spears’ hit “Hold It Against Me.” In her version, the pickup line is, “If I said I want your body now, would you hold it against me?”
That lyric is beyond corny, but Spears delivers it just as seriously as her other songs.

It may surprise most music fans to hear a songwriter whose credits include seven multi-platinum singles say there isn’t much money to make for their work anymore. But to the fellow songwriters who’ve spent years asking why their revenues have dried up in the streaming era, such a claim is yet another affirmation for how difficult it’s become to enjoy a sustainable career.

Benny Blanco is an absurdly successful writer-producer for pop stars: Britney Spears’ “Circus,” Taio Cruz’s “Dynamite,” Katy Perry’s “Teenage Dream,” Maroon 5’s “Moves Like Jagger,” Ed Sheeran’s “Don’t” … the list goes on. When it comes to anticipating the whims of pop radio in the last decade, perhaps only Max Martin has a better track record.

Nothing makes for stranger bedfellows than the best original song category at a movie (and television) awards show. Last year at the Golden Globes, we saw the theme song from a Bond film go up against a Brian Wilson song and and a Charlie Puth tune — with a Wiz Khalifa guest verse — from a Fast and the Furious film.
This year, it’s a similarly mixed bag, with Justin Timberlake rubbing elbows with Iggy Pop and Stevie Wonder. Let’s take a look at the tunes.

Fox‘s American Idol may be going back to its roots, betting on a hot music producer who is virtually unknown to the public as a judge — just as it did with Simon Cowell in 2002. The network is in negotiations with Dr. Luke (real name Lukasz Gottwald) to join the judging panel of the singing competition for its upcoming 13th season. Earlier this month, Fox chairman Kevin Reilly confirmed that the network had had discussions with all rumored judge candidates, a list that included Dr. Luke and will.i.am. The latter’s name started picking up steam in the past couple of weeks, though I hear talks between him and Fox never got serious. Meanwhile, hope is that Dr. Luke, who was tipped for the job by Us Magazine earlier today, will close a deal to join returning judges Keith Urban and Jennifer Lopez, whose signing has yet to be officially announced.

Bonnie McKee is undoubtedly one of the premiere Top-40 songwriters, having penned numerous No. 1 singles for the likes of Katy Perry, Britney Spears, Kelly Clarkson and Carly Rae Jepsen. She's also just released a new song of her own called "American Girl," as well as this pretty awesome medley of some of the biggest hits she's written.
Watch McKee pound away on the piano as she belts out the following tunes:
Britney Spears - “Hold It Against Me” Katy Perry - "California Gurls,” “Last Friday Night (Tgif),” “Wide Awake” and “Part Of Me” Taio Cruz - “Dynamite” Ke$ha - “C’Mon”
The performance in question, seen above, is treated as a music video. McKee played a similar medley live a couple of weeks ago at the Kiis-fm studio in Los Angeles.

With all the attention Jessica Chastain has been attracting ever since her Best Supporting Actress nomination for The Help last year, it’s hard not to catch her in one of her numerous roles. Be it independent work in Take Shelter or The Tree Of Life, the aforementioned The Help, a “gangster” flick called Lawless, or the highly recognized Osama Bin Laden thriller Zero Dark Thirty – Chastain is rapidly becoming a household name.
Her newest film, the Guillermo Del Toro produced Mama, is only going to propel her to even greater heights, as she undergoes a complete character transformation in an unrecognizable fashion. We were lucky enough to spend some time with the actress while doing press rounds in New York City to promote Mama where we heard about her want to never be typecast, her reaction after filming her first horror movie, and the bond she formed with the child actresses on set.

Doesn’t it feel like just yesterday when actress Merrin Dungey played Sidney Bristow’s best friend, Francie, on spy series, Alias? Poor Francie. Being associated with Sidney turned out to be brutal in the end. Let’s hope things are not so brutal when Dungey visits the set of 90210.
In February, you will see Dungey on the CW series for the first time. TV Line reports her character is a therapist. She will interact with 90210‘s Liam when she’s assigned by the courts to counsel him. Perhaps she will be his silver lining. The report described Dungey’s character as “sympathetic”. It certainly does not sound like Liam needs any more trouble on his plate. Remember, he also has Ashley’s affections to content with. Is affections the right word? In fact, who wants to bet Ashley will have something to do with Liam’s pending legal problems?...
