What do "Saving Private Ryan," "Dunkirk," and "Oppenheimer" -- among countless other World War II movies -- all have in common? Beyond the obviousness of their shared genre space, it's actually even simpler than that. None of these films would've been possible without one common denominator: the true, real-life heroics that ultimately inspired this year's "The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare." Based on author Damien Lewis' "The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare: How Churchill's Secret Warriors Set Europe Ablaze and Gave Birth to Modern Black Ops," the covert op undertaken by a select group of fearless individuals from all different walks of life only became known to the general public relatively recently. Files kept by the British War Department were finally declassified barely a decade ago and, as it turns out, that was for good reason. This might have been one of the most crucial undertakings of the entire conflict ... even if...

This article contains massive spoilers for "The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare."
With hindsight being 20/20 and all, it's ironic that the cultural nickname for World War I was "The Great War," given the existence of World War II. While no war in history has ever been "great" in the truest sense of the word, WWII's seemingly evergreen impact on just about every aspect of modern life, not to mention art, makes it the clear cultural victor. To wit, not only are films, television shows, books, and other works related to that war being produced today, but they remain incredibly popular — after all, a WWII-set movie just won Best Picture at this year's Oscars.
What's perhaps extra wild is that not only is WWII-themed art still viable, but there are corners of the war's history that remain largely unexplored. One of these corners is Operation Postmaster, the British special operation undertaken on...

Once upon a time … in war-torn London, Winston Churchill found himself face to face with the potential end of England as he knew it. The Blitz was in full effect. Europe was slowly being crushed under Hitler’s boot heels. German U-boats had turned the Atlantic into a graveyard, effectively crippling the Allied war effort. The prime minister needed an effective counterpunch.
So he asked several officials within the nation’s intelligence community, including a naval officer named Ian Fleming, to help recruit soldiers, secret agents, scallywags, and — God help...

Guy Ritchie is back with The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare. Based on what is allegedly the first “Black Ops” mission it’s a variation on The Dirty Dozen and all the knock-offs that followed, right up to and including Inglourious Basterds.
The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare opens with a boat having just been boarded by several members of the German Navy. As they pour gasoline over the deck, they tell its occupants they have the choice of staying on board and burning to death, or jumping overboard and drowning. For some reason, however, they don’t seem very worried.
From there we jump back 25 days, to Churchill watching newsreel footage about Hitler’s U-boats keeping American troops from entering the war.

The title is the worst thing about this lively, fun and largely true World War II adventure The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare, which is inspired by the Damien Lewis book of the same name but extending it to add: How Churchill’s Secret Warriors Set Europe Ablaze and Gave Birth to Modern Black Ops.
Guy Ritchie has taken this story of an illicit black ops crew, mostly of the prisoner variety, who with the permission of British Prime Minister Winston Churchill (Rory Kinnear) was commissioned and put into action (a ragtag group of warriors if ever there was one) in order to sink, as it were, Nazi Germany’s U-boats operation that had been preventing the U.S. from entering the war in Europe.
Ritchie has been on a roll of late with 2019’s The Gentlemen (now a Netflix series), and a pair from last year, the terrific Afghanistan War-set The Covenant,...

Guy Ritchie’s The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare is based on war correspondent Damien Lewis’s book of the same name, which tells the true story of an unsanctioned British military mission to sink the German ships that supplied all of their U-boats around the Spanish island of Fernando Po during World War II. The film also makes a point of announcing that the story comes from documents from Winston Churchill’s first term in office that were declassified in 2016, introducing each shrewd and ruthlessly efficient member of the ragtag crew carrying out this mission with a litany of their qualifications.
Narratively, the film plays out like a traditional historical thriller, yet it turns these men into impossibly proficient, virtually invincible killing machines who dispose of Nazis with such casual ease that they might as well be superheroes. And not only is the leader of this vicious, unruly pack, Major Gus March-Phillips,...

Cinematic universes may be on the decline, but Guy Ritchie has just stumbled upon the potential for a fun one with his frequently amusing “The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare,” a light and sloppy World War II caper that reimagines Winston Churchill (Rory Kinnear) as Nick Fury, and a series of rakish, Nazi-killing brutes as his own personal Avengers.
Men on a mission films like “The Guns of the Navarone” might seem to be the more obvious points of reference here, but by the time Churchill is spitting orders at Ian Fleming (“Slow Horses” shitheel Freddie Fox), assigning real-life actress/spy Marjorie Stewart to some “Casablanca” cosplay with a sadistic Nazi commander, and waiting by the phone to hear if his top-secret wrecking crew has managed to sink the German ships that supply Hitler’s fleet of U-boats, saving the world merely seems like the set-up for the bigger and better...

The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare is an impossibly glib, rip-roaring, and exciting action picture. It’s the type of old-fashioned entertainment full of movie stars who get the job done, cracking-wise, and goddamn, they look good doing it. You can’t help but get swept up in the action and think a franchise is born.
It helps to have a cast with this much swashbuckling beefcake, including a Superman, a Reacher, and a G.I. Joe. The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare is a film my wife calls the “Five Hot Guys” movie, with lots of eye candy and bloodshed for everyone involved. In a way, it is the perfect date movie.

With 2023’s compelling Jake Gyllenhaal vehicle The Covenant, Guy Ritchie took a more serious dramatic turn, away from the flashy action, glib humor and mashup of period settings with contemporary attitude that had characterized many of his biggest commercial successes. With its typically Ritchie-esque ensemble of quippy rascals, The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare sees the director back on more customary territory. Sort of. Chronicling a covert World War II mission manned by a band of renegades, the movie is diverting but remains awkwardly stuck between a larkish caper and a more gripping combat action thriller.
Scripted by Paul Tamasy, Eric Johnson, Arash Amel and Ritchie, based on the nonfiction book by war specialist Damien Lewis, the remarkable story comes from British War Department documents dating back to Winston Churchill’s first term in office, which were declassified in 2016.

“If you thought you’d seen me do sword work before, you haven’t seen anything yet.”
Such were Henry Cavill’s promises about the new Highlander movie he’s doing with Lionsgate and John Wick director Chad Stahelski, as the star made an appearance Wednesday at the studio’s CinemaCon sessions in Las Vegas.
But there was more. The actor’s new movie due in 2025 with Jake Gyllenhaal and Eiza González, directed by Guy Ritchie, got a title: In the Grey.
The pic centers a group of gunmen who, when billions are stolen, steal them back. The trailer kicks off with a kick-ass sting by Gyllenhaal, Cavill and González in the skinny streets of Europe.
Cavill also stars in Ritchie’s upcoming The Minstry of Ungentlemanly Warfare, about the UK’s recruiting of a small group of highly skilled soldiers to strike against German forces behind enemy lines during...

Henry Cavill was one of the frontrunners for the James Bond role before several conditions set by the studio ruled him out. Several fans still root for him and think that he would have been one of the best versions of 007. However, his recent interview regarding his upcoming film, The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare, may offend some of the ardent fans of the British secret agent.

House of the Dragon dropped two dueling trailers for its season 2 making the show’s intention clear. Just like how the Marvel fandom rallied behind Team Captain America and Team Iron Man during the release of Captain America: Civil War, HoTD wants the fans to pick sides. The two sides in this vicious Targaryen Civil War are Rhaenyra Targaryen’s team black and Alicent Hightower’s team green. However, fans have yet to meet some of the members of these feuding factions.

HBO’s confirmed a June 16, 2024 premiere date for House of the Dragon season two and released the first-ever “dueling” trailers. House of the Dragon season two dropped dueling trailers Thursday, prompting fans to choose between the black trailer, focusing on Rhaenyra (Emma D’Arcy), or the green one, which puts Alicent (Olivia Cooke) at the forefront.
Rhaenyra’s trailer focuses on her, Prince Daemon (Matt Smith) and their Dragonstone forces, while the green puts King Landing’s team of Alicent, Otto (Rhys Ifans) and her children — King Aegon (Tom Glynn-Carney) and Prince Aemond (Ewan Mitchell) — at the forefront. This season of the Emmy-nominated show will begin the Targaryen’s civil war, also known as the Dance of the Dragons.

HBO has released not one, but two trailers for the upcoming House Of The Dragon season 2 and revealed when it’ll premiere.
If you’ve been patiently waiting for some more concrete news on House Of The Dragon season 2, we have some good news for you.
HBO has released two new trailers for the upcoming season and given it a release date.
The new season will air on HBO starting from 16th June in the US and 17th June in the UK on Sky Atlantic. UK viewers can either watch the episode at 2am at the same time as our American friends or watch it in the usual primetime spot at 9pm.
Now then, the trailers.
The reason there’s two is that viewers can choose their side between Green and Black, aimed to represent the conflict between King Aemon and Queen Rhaenyra, both of whom believe they have the birthright to the throne.

“House of the Dragon” is asking viewers to pick a side in Season 2: Rhaenyra’s black faction or Alicent’s green team?
HBO dropped two unique trailers Thursday for Season 2, which premieres on June 16. One trailer focuses on Rhaenrya, Prince Daemon and their forces on Dragonstone, and the other is centered on the King’s Landing team of Alicent, her father Otto and her children King Aegon and Prince Aemond. Taking place 200 years before the events of “Game of Thrones,” Season 2 of “House of the Dragon” will officially mark the start of the Dance of the Dragons, the Targaryen civil war.
In the wake of the Season 1 finale, in which Aemond murders Rhaenyra’s son Lucerys and his dragon, war is imminent in Westeros. The blacks and the greens are both gathering their forces, dragons and new allies to face off in a bloody, fiery battle to the death.

The Gentlemen isn’t your normal crime-drama and that’s made clear from the very first episode and the series is all the better for it. Guy Ritchie’s incredible style in storytelling is front and center and while it may stumble at some points, at the end the series gives the fans what it wants (excluding a cameo from Matthew McConaughey or Charlie Hunnam), and the characters in this series are either balls to walls crazy or so suave that they make criminality look sexy.
The Netflix series follows the story of Eddie Horniman, the second son of the Horniman family who surprisingly gets everything after his father’s death, but Eddie is even more surprised as he finds out that Daddy didn’t make all that money investing in stocks, but had some unsavory cohorts, who work on the other side of the law. A trailer for The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare was recently released. Damien Lewis’ book, Churchill’s Secret Warriors: The Explosive True Story of the Special Forces Desperadoes of the Second World War, is the basis for an upcoming film.
It sheds light on the Special Operation Executive, a secret agency established by former British Prime Minister Winston Churchill.
It highlights how this organization used secret operations to take on the Nazis throughout WWII. Though The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare is an exaggerated release of a story with elements of humor thrown in, the film depicts a pivotal event that changed the course of warfare in modern history.

"This is an unsanctioned, unauthorized mission." Lionsgate has revealed an official trailer for Guy Ritchie's new WWII action film titled The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare, arriving in theaters this April. Ritchie already deliver another war film last year with The Covenant, and also has The Gentlemen series coming up, now he's heading back to WWII to tell the origin story of covert Black Ops missions. The British military recruits a small group of highly-skilled soldiers to strike against Nazi forces behind enemy lines. Billed as a true story about a secret British World War II organization: the Special Operations Executive. Founded by Winston Churchill, their irregular warfare against the Nazis helped to change the course of the war and gave birth to modern black operations. The massive ensemble cast features Henry Cavill as Gus March-Phillips, with Eiza González, Alan Ritchson, Henry Golding, Alex Pettyfer, Hero Fiennes Tiffin, Babs Olusanmokun,...

Who needs the Dceu? It looks like Henry Cavill is about to have one heck of a big 2024, with Argylle opening Friday and his latest, Guy Ritchie’s The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare, getting an explosive new trailer that promises lots of WW2 spy shenanigans with a distinct Guy Ritchie twist.
The all-star movie features Cavill as the head of a Dirty Dozen-like team charged with neutralizing German U-boats in the North Atlantic. The story is loosely based on a real special forces team from WWII, which, among its members, included James Bond creator Ian Fleming. Of course, being a Guy Ritchie movie produced by Jerry Bruckheimer, expect less intrigue and more firepower, with the trailer scored by Queen’s “Another One Bites the Dust” and having a body count that’s already in the dozens. It really does look like a lot of fun, with Cavill seemingly having...

Has anyone told Guy Ritchie that it's totally okay to take a nap, get some water, or slow down before he burns himself out? The prolific English film director, producer, and screenwriter has been firing on all cylinders for the last 25 years, churning out thrillers, action comedies, spy dramas, and even a live-action Disney movie to boast one of the most impressive filmographies of any director working today. Last year saw the release of both "Operation Fortune: Ruse de Guerre" and "Guy Ritchie's The Covenant," with the latter hitting theaters in April. Now, Ritchie's next film is slated for release almost a year later to the day with "The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare." I say this with the utmost love and respect — that's a title that sounds like the result of a "Guy Ritchie Movie" movie title generator. This is to say, I'll absolutely be there on opening night to catch this nonsense.

British actor Laurence Fox has lost a libel case with two men he called pedophiles on social media after they had called the My Son Hunter star a racist.
On Monday, the High Court in the U.K. deemed that Fox had defamed Simon Blake, a former LGBT charity trustee, and Crystal, a drag artist and former RuPaul’s Drag Race contestant, on Twitter/X in October 2020, when he called them pedophiles over an escalating row over Black History Month.

House Of The Dragon Season 2 Release Date Revealed By Matt Smith ( Photo Credit – Max / YouTube )
The House of the Dragon Season 2 release date might have been spoiled by the show’s star, Matt Smith, in a recent interview. It is set 172 years before the birth of Game of Thrones’ Daenerys. After a successful first season, the fans have been waiting eagerly. Smith plays the role of Daemon Targaryen in the HBO series and is paired with Emma D’Arcy’s character, Rhaenyra Targaryen and the first season ended on a high note with Lucerys Velaryon’s death by Aemond’s Dragon Vhagar.
The first season came out in 2022 and, like Got, has been lauded and appreciated by the audience for the fantastic performances by every actor, especially Paddy Considine as King Viserys. The cinematography, VFX, storyline, and execution were bang on, leaving fans wanting more.

Mark Gatiss’ revival of A Ghost Story for Christmas, a British strand of one-off specials infrequently aired around the holidays since 1971, continues with what is possibly its best entry yet: Lot No. 249. The League of Gentlemen alum has maintained a substantial interest in horror, much like comrades Steve Pemberton and Reece Shearsmith, but unlike the Inside No. 9 duo, Gatiss digs up neglected works from classic British literature — before now, namely M. R. James — and reintroduces them to contemporary audiences.
In Lot No. 249, Kit Harrington plays the prying university student who acts on suspicions about his odd neighbor (Freddie Fox). The Egyptologist in question is not only guilty of certain “perversions” he is also using a reanimated mummy — the story’s otherwise nameless namesake — to carry out his wicked plans. This includes murdering his various rivals on campus. The protagonist later intervenes, only to then make a startling, if not belated realization about his enemy.

Warning: contains spoilers for “A Ghost Story for Christmas: Lot No. 249”
Christmas and ghosts go together like mince pies and brandy butter, or indeed like Sherlock co-creator Mark Gatiss and Sherlock Holmes. This year’s A Ghost Story For Christmas brings us a bit of both.
Based on a short story by Arthur Conan Doyle, Lot No. 249 sees medical student Smith (Kit Harrington) called to help fellow student Bellingham (Freddie Fox) after he falls into some sort of a trance. Bellingham is a specialist in Egyptology and possesses many ancient artifacts including a mummified body. Strange things have been occurring on campus, some of them to people who have crossed Bellingham – could the desiccated corpse have anything to do with it? Well, yes, obviously.
While scary resurrected mummies are standard horror fare these days, back when Doyle was writing, Egyptomania was all the rage and the concept of the undead...

Oh, that’s got to sting.
We’ve got an exclusive sneak peek of Slow Horses Season 3 Episode 4, in which Ingrid Tearney (Sophie Okonedo) meets with Jackson Lamb (Gary Oldman) to ask for the Slow Horses’ help.
If there’s anything we know about Ingrid, she doesn’t think much of the disgraced heroes of Slough House.
This season focuses mainly on the team’s efforts to rescue Standish (Catherine Reeves), but, as usual, they have more obstacles than any regular MI5 agent (yet they still triumph).
Her kidnapping coincides with that of There have been some big swings this season so far.
It turns out that Standish was kidnapped by an inside group of MI5 agents that Ingrid put together to test MI5 security.
When it all falls apart and the “fake” kidnapping becomes the real thing, everyone, Ingrid especially, is left with egg on their faces.

HBO’s House of the Dragon season two teaser trailer opens with Otto Hightower admitting errors were made immediately following King Viserys’ death. With so many shows being delayed, House of the Dragon Season 2 is still on track for a summer 2024 launch on HBO.
It's nice to know when to expect the hit Game of Thrones spinoff's return because many shows are in the air at this stage.
HBO gave viewers their first close-up of the second chapter at the Ccxp fan event in Sao Paulo, Brazil, on Saturday.
As expected, plenty of blood-filled encounters, dragons, and some vengeance are thrown in for good measure.
After House of the Dragon Season 1 concluded with Lucerys being knocked out of the sky by Vhagar.
What was supposed to send a message by frightening Lucerys became something much more sinister when Vhagar took control of the situation and killed Rhaenyra's son.
The promo picks up with Rhaenyra at Storm's End, and let's just say she does not look thrilled.
