Update: Dave Marquez of Championship Wrestling From Hollywood told PWInsider that Harley Race has lung cancer but it’s not a terminal case. “I’ve just spoken to Harley Race’s family and it’s true, he has been diagnosed with Lung Cancer, but it’s not terminal. He’s being treated and supervised by his doctors. He is still very active in the Harley Race Wrestling Academy and his promotion World League Wrestling. Also, next weekend’s Nwa Worlds Championship match at Wlw’s “Night of Champions” is still on and previously I’ve already made plans to attend. Harley and his family appreciates everyone’s concern and asks […]

I've got some cool news for all of you Agent Carter fans! Marvel Comics is launching a new comic book series called Exiles, and in it, Agent Carter suits up as Captain America! The comic art above by Dave Marquez offers us our first look at the character and she's looking pretty badass all decked out in her Captain America gear.
I always thought it would be cool to see Agent Carter as Captain America in the comics and now it's actually happening. She will be introduced in the third issue of the Exiles series. This is the first time that Peggy has held the mantle of Captain America in the comics, but she did appear as Captain America in a game called Puzzle Quest.
In case you're not familiar with Exiles, it's being written by Saladin Ahmed and will include characters such as future Kamala Khan, Tessa Thompson’s...

Wizard World Comic Con visited Portland, Oregon last weekend and they provided me an opportunity to attend. The experience had it’s good points and it’s bad which I will get into.
Batman-Kevin Conroy
To start, it was much smaller an affair than I anticipated. I think back to Rose City Comic Con back in September, which utilized the entire Oregon Convention Center with the main hall and numerous meeting rooms for the various panels. Wizard World used the main hall as well as two sets of meeting rooms which made the event feel smaller. That’s not a bad thing in and of itself, just an observation.
The line to get into the convention hall was long. The biggest problem I had with it was that the Wizard World staff utilized only one set of doors for the entrance. Everyone had to be scanned with a...

Marvel’s Civil War II, issue 8 is out. Finally. The grand summer event comic from Marvel finally reaches its conclusion long after the other comics in their line moved on. So with the final issue in the books, how does it end and what are my thoughts on the series as a whole?
A word that comes to mind is rushed. This felt rushed. It went by way too fast for me to get a handle of what was going on. What didn’t help was the odd release dates the series saw thanks to the birth of Dave Marquez’s baby (congratulations by the way!) as well as the addition of this issue to the story. The series was originally meant to end at issue 7 yet Brian Bendis felt he had a little more in the tank to flesh out the story some.

Let the subplots commence. Civil War 2 is chugging along with the release of The Amazing Spider-Man Number 1. I’ve found that with event stories such as this, some of the subplot stories that you find in other comics vary in quality. Sometimes their addition to the main event flows nicely, such as Ms. Marvel’s use in the Secret Wars event. Sometimes the results are mixed such as the Black Widow series from Nathan Edmondson.
To start, I enjoyed this issue. While it definitely adds to the Civil War 2 story, it doesn’t feel forced in the least. It feels like a natural extension of where Brian Bendis and Dave Marquez are taking things. The characters feel real which can be tough to accomplish when dealing with people with such amazing abilities. When Peter Parker and Johnny Storm meet up under circumstances fit for a 1970’s sitcom, their back...

The problems with sequels is expectation. When you have a project that is received so well by an audience, a follow up is not always able to reach the levels of expectation people want from that product. For every “The Empire Strikes Back” and “The Godfather II” there’s “The Matrix Reloaded”, a sequel that advanced the story but did not reach the level of expectation people had for it.
The biggest Marvel event of the past decade was Civil War. Marvel, doing what they do best, assembled every character in their arsenal and gave us a story that touched upon some real life issues in a way that wasn’t preachy and didn’t pound you over the head with it’s obviousness. To create a sequel to a story that is so well received would be a tough job for any team.

Invincible Iron Man #5
Written by Brian Michael Bendis
Art by Dave Marquez
Colors by Justin Ponsor
Letters by Clayton Cowles
Published by Marvel Comics
The end of the first arc for Marvel’s newest flagship title is here, and it’s a doozy. The issue picks up immediately with the new bromance team up of Tony and Dr. Doom dealing with Madame Masque in Mj’s Nightclub. It’s important to note that Bendis opens with the audience getting inside Mj’s head and her love affair with superheroes seeing how anything she tries to do is somehow tied back to heroes or villains, like them wrecking her latest venture.
In the opening arc, we’ve seen Tony being tossed outside of his usual wheelhouse as far as a run of the mill Iron Man adventure goes and it all comes to a head in this absolutely, downright dynamic battle.

Invincible Iron Man #3, which continues the adventures of the All-New Tony Stark feels old school with a new, shinier coat of paint in a fantastic way. The issue picks up immediately after the electrifying ending of the previous issue and suffice to say both Madame Masque and Tony bring new tricks to their latest bout in the gloriously rendered Montreal nighttime from Dave Marquez and Justin Ponsor. Masque and her upgraded power-set seemingly best Tony in the ongoing fight, but Iron Man isn’t one to be upstaged. From the ground Tony controls the suit (that can stitch itself together!) and does his best to subdue Masque but, to no avail.

Everything is not what it appears. This is the saying that Tony Stark lives by, and it’s the most accurate way to sum up this issue in the roaring new series. We pick immediately after the last page shocker that can only be explained by the delayed Secret Wars event, and Tony can’t believe it one bit. Whereas the first issue was light on actual action, the second issue ramps things up with a short, but sweet battle. In typical Tony fashion, he blasts first and asks questions to his lovely snarky A.I. while blasting. But it proves non-effective in his regular armor. Artist Dave Marquez gives us a amazingly rendered look of the armor practically shifting into itself and back out again into the Hulkbuster Armor to test things out.

Iron Man is back.
The All-New, All-Different rendition of the Armored Avenger is thrown into both old and new territory in the first issue under Brian Michael Bendis spinning out of Secret Wars. It opens in Beijing as a nameless suit arrives to a room dropping off a case of something shiny to a shadowy figure revealed to be Madame Masque. She is drawn to great effect by Marquez and confirms with the suit to make sure it’s the real thing otherwise he’d be dead because she would hunt him down. He doesn’t make it past asking his reward money before a bullet is put in his head.
We then move on to Tony Stark doing what he does best, narrating what’s going...

Avengers #41
Written by Jonathan Hickman
Art by Mike Deodato
Colors by Frank Martin
Published by Marvel Comics
With a cover that is an exact copy of Mark Millar and Bryan Hitch’s The Ultimates #1, Avengers #41 brings the good ol’ (or not so old) Ultimate Universe into Jonathan Hickman’s epic multiversal vision for the Avengers and Marvel Universe as a whole. It also deals with the fate of the Cabal after Black Panther wounded Namor and sent him with the Cabal to another world, which he ends up destroying. Hickman’s writing is delightfully meta about how the Ultimate Universe has played out of the years going from possibly supplanting the 616 universe in the early 2000s to now being a sinking ship barely kept afloat by Brian Michael Bendis, Dave Marquez, and Miles Morales. Ultimate Reed Richards does a lot of monologuing in this issue, but by the end of the issue,...
