Ghost shirts, which are sacred to certain Indigenous communities, were thought to guard the wearer against bullets through spiritual power. This precious heirloom is at the center of Tony Tost’s directorial debut film at SXSW, Americana. This western dramedy has some tricks up its sleeve, thanks to the brilliant writing and the script’s comedic timing. It boasts a big cast of actors including Sydney Sweeney, Halsey, Paul Walter Hauser, Zahn McClarnon, Simon Rex, Eric Dane and Gavin Maddox Bergman.

Halsey makes her official big-screen debut in the Tony Tost film Americana, which will premiere at SXSW on Friday (though she previously starred in the film If I Can’t Have Love, I Want Power, accompanying her album of the same name). On “Girl Is a Gun,” a deep cut from the record, the singer boasts about her hardened exterior, warning: “I come loaded with the safety switched off.” In the first sneak peek trailer for Americana, in which she stars opposite Euphoria star Sydney Sweeney, the theatrical edge she displays...

"This is an 'active art' zone." Vertical Entertainment has revealed a fun official trailer for an indie comedy called Tankhouse, marking the feature directorial debut of actor Noam Tomaschoff. This film has skipped premiering at festivals and will be out in May for anyone to watch. When an ambitious but hopelessly pretentious thespian couple gets blackballed from the New York theatre scene, they relocate to Fargo, North Dakota and form a new ensemble to start a theatrical revolution in an unexpected place. They challenge an incumbent theater group to win a local competition. Starring Tara Holt & Stephen Friedrich as Tucker & Sandrene, plus Joe Adler, Nadia Alexander, Austin Crute, and Sarah Yarkin, with Richard Kind and Christopher Lloyd. It looks like something made by theater nerds just for theater nerds to laugh at. Here's the first official trailer for Noam Tomaschoff's Tankhouse, direct from Vertical's YouTube: After being blacklisted from the NYC theatre industry,...

Of course, Hodges' framing couldn't be cracked this quickly.
It doesn't help that Sara and Gil kept getting pulled away to help on the current case on CSI: Vegas Season 1 Episode 3.
After all, that's the price of admission for them. If they want access to the lab, they have to share their wealth of experience with the current squad. That's only fair.
However, the problem is that there's a clock on their investigation now, as David's trial got fast-tracked by headline-seeking politicians. No big surprise there.
Also, do you think it's a coincidence that one law firm was allowed to file a class-action suit for all those potentially wrongfully convicted on the strength of Hodges' "fabricated" evidence?
It wouldn't be at all surprising if there's a lawyer involved in this conspiracy, especially one that seems to have popped up out of nowhere. Whoever is behind this is seeking revenge and enrichment at the same time.

This is a good week to be a horror fan who collects home media, because we have some killer releases headed our way on Tuesday. Personally, I’ve been waiting ever so patiently for Scream Factory’s Collector’s Edition release of Paul W.S. Anderson’s Event Horizon, and my patience is finally going to pay off tomorrow, as not only are we getting a 4K scan of the film, but the Blu is also chock-full of special features I cannot wait to dig into. Scream Factory is also giving Julia Ducournau’s Raw a stateside Blu-ray release finally, and Arrow Video is showing some love to Patrick Picard’s The Bloodhound this week as well.
We also have two Steelbooks that will be available this Tuesday: Gattaca in 4K as well as the 40th anniversary release of Friday the 13th Part II, and if you need to play catch-up,...

The Bloodhound Release: "Arrow Video will release Patrick Picard’s debut feature The Bloodhound in the US and UK on VOD on March 15th, and BluRay on March 22nd, 2021
First-time feature director Patrick Picard brings a fresh take to one of the best-known stories from the master of mystery and the macabre, Edgar Allan Poe, The Fall of the House of Usher, in his new slow-burner horror-thriller The Bloodhound, a hauntingly atmospheric tale described by The Hollywood News as “an impressively stylish and intellectual debut”.
Francis, a dispossessed young man, is summoned to the secluded home of his wealthy childhood friend, Jp Luret, who is suffering from a mysterious affliction. Upon his arrival, Francis realizes that Jp and his ethereal twin sister Vivian are the sole surviving members of the privileged Luret family, whose legacy has been one of depression and self-destruction, and the only occupants of their family estate.

In 2021, the toll that isolation can take on mental health is understood better than ever before. it's particularly tough for those who have a tendency towards mental illness to begin with. Edgar Allan Poe's Fall Of The House Of Usher was one of the first works to explore the conjunction of these two factors from a modern perspective. It has been interpreted for the cinema several times, but Patrick Picard's stripped-down, 21st Century version is perfectly suited to the pandemic era.
Whilst the frame of the story remains, the names have been changed. We follow Francis (Liam Aiken) as he goes to visit his reclusive friend Jean Paul (Joe Adler) in the latter's remote home. Jean Paul's twin sister Vivian (Annalise Basso) is also present in the house but rarely glimpsed. Picard finds the crux of the story in the relationship between the two men. This brings the queer subtext.

Promoted as a modern spin on Edgar Allen Poe’s “The Fall of the House of Usher,” sans any such onscreen accreditation, “The Bloodhound” does eke an atmosphere of suffocation and doom from one domestic interior — in this case, an impressive mid-century modernist manse whose stark clean lines seem to repel human warmth. Patrick Picard’s debut feature is more persuasive as a stylistic exercise than as horror or psychodrama, growing a bit arid even at just 72 terse minutes. But those with an affinity for genre material in a cryptic, ascetic arthouse mode may fall under its chilly spell, and even those who don’t may be curious to see what this writer-director does next. It’s part of Arrow Video’s December streaming lineup for the U.S. and Canada.

USA Network’s newest original drama “Damnation” isn’t based on the Great Depression taught in schools nationwide. Instead, it’s a fictional account of cultural revolution. The network has released a new trailer for the series, which is set to premiere Tuesday, November 7 at 10/9 p.m.
“Damnation” tells the tale of Iowa preacher Seth Davenport (Killian Scott) who vows to instigate a farmer’s strike. “If your neighbor is siding with wealth,” Davenport pleads in the recently released trailer, “then you need to recognize that neighbor for what he is — the enemy.”
Seth fights corruption and corporate greed unknowingly beside a professional strikebreaker, Creeley Turner (Logan Marshall-Green), who has been hired by an industrialist tycoon. But as Turner and Davenport are set to squabble, those around them don’t know about their secret, violent past.

Twin Peaks Recap is a weekly column by Keith Uhlich covering David Lynch and Mark Frost's limited, 18-episode continuation of the Twin Peaks television series. The best things come to those who wait, and Big Ed Hurley (Everett McGill) has long been dreaming of the moment that opens Part 15 of Mark Frost and David Lynch's Twin Peaks revival. "I've been a selfish bitch to you all these years," says his one-eyed wife Nadine (Wendy Robie), who's walked a long way—a Dr. Jacoby/Dr. Amp gold, shit-digging shovel slung over her shoulder—to the cash-only Gas Farm that Ed has run for most of his life. She states the obvious: Ed is in love with Rr Diner propietor Norma Jennings (Peggy Lipton), and she, Nadine, has always stood in his way. Those days are finally over. Ed is reluctant to think of this as anything beyond another of his spouse's manic episodes.

The episode count for the David Lynch-directed series was always in question, but that tweet suggested we'd be getting even more episodes than originally planned. Said tweet has since been deleted, so we'll have to wait to see how that pans out.
in the meantime in more official news, Showtime, Lynch and Mark Frost has released the official cast list for the new series with a whopping 217 names across the various episodes - a list that includes some real surprise big name inclusions such as Monica Bellucci, Michael Cera, Naomi Watts, Tim Roth, Jennifer Jason Leigh, Eddie Vedder, Ashley Judd, Ernie Hudson, Jim Belushi, Richard Chamberlain, Laura Dern,...

Throughout its entire seven-season run, The Mentalist was always about love. It may seem like an incredibly clichéd statement, and some readers may find the notion completely ridiculous for a show that started with a man’s family being brutally murdered and him then searching for murderous revenge for five-and-a-half of the show’s seven season. However, it is true. The Mentalist is and has always been about this often used, universal theme. More specifically, The Mentalist is about love in all its forms. The love Patrick Jane (Simon Baker) found in his new family at the Cbi (and then the FBI). The young love that blossomed between Wayne Rigsby (Owain Yeoman) and Grace Van Pelt (Amanda Righetti) from the very beginning, and then again between Jason Wylie (Joe Adler) and Michelle Vega (Josie Loren) in the final season. The love and friendship between Jane and Dennis Abbott (Rockmond Dunbar), born out…...

CBS has announced that this is the final season of The Mentalist. The ratings have been coming down for awhile but will they rally for the last 13 episodes? Will the network regret ending the series? Could there be an eighth season after all if the numbers are strong enough?
On The Mentalist, Patrick Jane (Simon Baker) continues to help solve tough cases, using his razor sharp skills of observation. How will the relationship of Jane and Agent Teresa Lisbon (Robin Tunney) affect their work? This time around the supporting castmembers are Tim Kang, Rockmond Dunbar, Joe Adler, and Josie Loren.
The higher a show's ratings (particularly the 18-49 demo), the better its chances for survival. New ratings data will be added as it becomes available -- typically around 11:30am Est/8:30am Pst. Refresh to see the latest. (more…)...

Exclusive: Recent The Mentalist cast addition Joe Adler has been promoted to a series regular for the upcoming seventh season of the veteran crime drama. Adler plays Jason Wylie, the lighthearted and brilliant FBI computer expert with a deep interest in Jane’s (Simon Baker) mind games. Adler’s promotion is not a surprise as has appeared on a recurring basis in every episode of the show since its reboot halfway through Season 5 when the Red John storyline was wrapped up and the show’s setting was moved from California to Texas. When it renewed Mentalist last month, CBS did not specify the size of the order but I’d heard that it is for a 13-episode seventh and likely final season, something the network also would not confirm. The Mentalist is not on CBS’ fall schedule and is slated to return in midseason if not sooner. Adler, repped by Paradigm and Authentic,...
