The Game Awards 2023 panel has revealed the full list of nominees who will be eligible to win at this year’s show. While many of the nominees are relatively unsurprising, there are certainly a few games that did (and didn’t) get nominated that will get people talking.
Here’s everything you need to know about The Game Awards 2023’s nominees and voting process.
The Game Awards 2023: How Voting Works
According to the Game Awards website, Game Awards winners are determined by a “blended vote” that accounts for jury votes and fan votes. The jury votes account for 90% of the voting weight while the fan votes make up the remaining 10%.
Though an example of that formula is not provided, it’s basically best to think of the system like a 10-person voting jury. Nine of the jurors would represent voting individuals of the group, and the 10th person would...

Final Fantasy XVI works because of its desire to push the series in a new direction, influenced by all kinds of western media, while still celebrating its own quirky spirit. It doesn’t reinvent or subvert its original concepts — there are still crystals, chocobos, and scenery chewing villains — but it trades anime tropes and modernist sci-fi saga for a medieval, gothic fantasy built on the relationship between light and dark (emphasis on the dark). The most mature entry the series has ever seen, it delivers a ruthless and deeply personal...

One day, out of the blue, a horse starts talking to his owner. Amazing, right? But how do you prove to other people that you're not losing your mind when the horse refuses to speak to anyone else? That was part of the premise behind Mister Ed, the Classic TV series that ran from 1961-66, offering viewers 143 episodes in total that continued to explore that dynamic, the horse proving himself to be just as needy, petty and selfish as any human being could be —while at the same time having those moments where he reveals himself to be a true best friend. So how do you get five and a half years out of that idea? The answer is that the show, as crazy as it sounds on the surface, was genuinely funny and done in such a way that it allowed the audience to buy into what the producers were selling.

The characters in Sky1’s Jamestown may be brooding, conflicted and understandably depressed by their circumstances but in real life the actors couldn’t have been more upbeat. We were lucky enough to meet the cast of Jamestown on set as well as after the preview of episode 1 from series 2 and couldn’t have met a livelier bunch of people – Steven Waddington wanted to sing karaoke as soon as we handed him the microphone which made for a great start.
In the first interview we talk to Naomi Battrick, Ben Starr, Niamh Walsh, Abubakar Salim and Abiola Ogunbiyi. Naomi spoke of how her character Jocelyn had started off protected by her upper-class husband but this changes dramatically after she loses her husband at the beginning of series 2. She gave praise to the incredible set design which helped them feel ‘part of something real;’ a small village was built,...
