Imagine Dragons draw inspiration from Michael Jackson’s “Thriller” in the music video for the band’s recent single, “Bones.” The clip, directed by Jason Koenig, depicts a zombie apocalypse on Wall Street, transforming a stock exchange trading floor into a playground for the undead.
Frontman Dan Reynolds plays a day trader — decked out in 80s-inspired clothing — in the clip, which is filled with brain-eating, dancing zombies in homage to the 1983 “Thriller” video, a favorite of Reynolds’ children.
“It definitely served as the inspiration for the ‘Bones’ video,” Reynolds said of “Thriller” in a statement.

Ed Sheeran is joined by Camila Cabello and Cardi B in his latest video, “South of the Border,” directed by Jason Koenig.
The clip, modeled after spy movies, sees the three artists taking on an international plot to steal what must be a very valuable necklace; the heist is executed by a femme fatale (Alexis Ren) and her cyborg secret agent beau (Paul Karmiryan). There’s car chases, beach dances, ropes, latex — anything you’d think would be in a high-budget video modeled after James Bond, it’s here.

Ed Sheeran has released his “Galway Girl” video, which stars “Brooklyn” actress Saoirse Ronan. The English singer-songwriter shot the video himself from the first-person perspective, and the resulting footage is quite charming. The clip starts with Sheeran finishing his performance in a concert, then going into a bar where he is greeted by Ronan, who takes his hand and guides him through the crowded place. Then, they roam the streets of Galway, Ireland, where Sheeran was a street performer as a teenager.

The pair also go into a tattoo parlor, where Ronan pretends to ink the name of the song on Sheeran’s skin. However, Ronan tricked him and Sheeran ended up with a tattoo that reads “Galway Grill”, like the name of a restaurant in Ireland’s Epcot Center that only serves Guinness beer and potatoes three ways.

Macklemore & Ryan Lewis' "Can't Hold Us" took the best hip-hop video Vma this year, beating out the likes of Drake, A$AP Rocky, J. Cole and Kendrick Lamar.
The "Can't Hold Us" video was directed by Lewis, Jason Koenig and Jon Jon Augustavo, and the song also featured Ray Dalton. Macklemore was the most-nominated artist of the night, with eight nods.
Not everyone was a fan of the "Can't Hold Us" videos, music critic Chris Weingarten slammed the clip in a pre-awards Twitter run-down of nominees:
This year's nominees are notable because they're all relatively young and somewhat new to the scene, with Drake playing veteran to a field of artists profiting from their early studio albums. None of the genre's mainstays -- like Jay Z or Kanye -- were nominated this year.
One Direction hosted the Video Music Awards from Brooklyn's Barclays Center. This was the 30th anniversary of the awards.

Most categories at the MTV Video Music Awards are decided by fans, who vote for winners online, but that is not the case of the VMAs' six Professional Categories, specialized fields where music industry professionals pick the winners. These categories are comparable to the Emmys' Creative Arts Awards, which present prizes like Sound, Cinematography, and Visual Effects apart from the main telecast. Most Vma races come down to which artists can best mobilize their rabid online fan-bases, but since the professional races have different voters, can we expect a radically different set of winners? I size up the contenders below: Best Direction Jon Jon Augustavo, Jason Koenig, and Ryan Lewis – "Can't Hold Us" (Macklemore & Ryan Lewis) Anthony Mandler – "Carry On" (Fun.) Megaforce – "Sacrilege" (Yeah Yeah Yeahs) Director X and Drake – "Started from the Bottom" (Drak...
