- Besides running a restaurant, she also had her own cooking show from 1950-57, was a guest or a contestant on many shows, including Jack Paar's "Tonight Show" and Groucho Marx's "You Bet Your Life", wrote columns for local newspapers, and did charity work for the underprivileged.
- Owned her own restaurant, the popular Hawley's Tough Steaks, known for "its terrible service and even worse food." The restaurant was a favorite of Hollywood celebrities who helped provide the laughs on the menu.
