"This world is infected by evil... and its people are capable of such madness." Ain't that the truth! Lionsgate has unveiled a teaser trailer for the next horror offering in the current The Strangers trilogy of movies, all of them directed by Finnish filmmaker Renny Harlin. The Strangers - Chapter 2 is "the chilling next chapter of The Strangers franchise" which began (as a complete restart) in the summer of 2024 earlier this year with The Strangers - Chapter 1 (trailer here). It's not really a prequel or a sequel, it's a re-imagining of this masked killers horror franchise. No plot details are included for Chapter 2 after the the couple on a honeymoon are tormented in Chapter 1. It was shot simultaneously with the first & third chapters between May and October 2022 in Slovakia. Director Renny Harlin has explained that these next two movies in The Strangers reboot trilogy will "go in completely different directions...

Director Renny Harlin shot an entire trilogy of Strangers movies at the same time, and while there was a point when it looked like Lionsgate might be releasing all three of the movies within 2024, that idea has clearly been pushed aside. The Strangers: Chapter 1 (read our review Here) reached theatres back in May, and a release date still hasn’t been announced for The Strangers: Chapter 2. It’s coming soon, though… at least that’s what the newly unveiled teaser trailer promises. You can watch the teaser in the embed above.
Madelaine Petsch (Riverdale) has the lead role in this trilogy and is joined in the cast of the films by Froy Gutierrez (Cruel Summer), Rachel Shenton (All Creatures Great and Small), Gabriel Basso (Hillbilly Elegy), and Ema Horvath (The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power). Lionsgate’s franchise reboot The Strangers: Chapter 1 kicked off a new trilogy of tales, and the company has finally released the official teaser trailer for The Strangers: Chapter 2.
At this time, Chapter 2 is “coming soon,” with no official release date.
Watch the official teaser trailer for The Strangers: Chapter 2 below, which continues the story of Madelaine Petsch’s character, who survived the events of The Strangers: Chapter 1.
Both upcoming sequels to Chapter 1 were filmed at the very same time by director Renny Harlin (A Nightmare on Elm Street 4: The Dream Master, Deep Blue Sea).
In The Strangers: Chapter 1, “After their car breaks down in an eerie small town, a young couple are forced to spend the night in a remote cabin. Panic ensues as they are terrorized by three masked strangers who strike with no mercy and seemingly no motive.”

The Lord Of The Rings: The Rings Of Power Showrunners Debunk Popular "Dark Wizard" Theory - Spoilers
The second season of Prime Video's The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power came to an end this week, and the finale seemed to leave little doubt as to the identity of the "Dark Wizard" played by Game of Thrones alum Ciarán Hinds.
However, all may not be as it seems when it comes to this mysterious and very powerful character.
We know that this blatantly evil sorcerer is an "Istar," and it was generally assumed that he must be Sarauman. Granted, it would be a pretty major change to the lore if this character "broke bad" prior to the events of Tolkien's trilogy, but so would the introduction of another Istari who was never mentioned in the saga at all.
This led to speculation that Hinds might be playing either Alatar or Pallando, the "Blue Wizards" who are never really discussed in any great detail in The Lord of the Rings...

Prime Video has already released a brief promo for this Thursday's season 2 finale of The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power, but an extended version has now been shared online which features quite a bit of new footage.
Spoilers for the previous episode follow.
It's not the best quality, but the video shows more of the fierce battle between Galadriel and Sauron that was teased in the first trailer. The Dark Lord is still in his Annatar form here - but as we've already seen, this makes him no less powerful.
We also have another shot of the Balrog, who was first awakened from his long slumber in the season 2 finale. The fiery demon will be unleashed from his cavern deep beneath Moria when King Durin refuses to listen to his son and digs far too deeply into the mountain.
Finally, we get a glimpse of the Dark Wizard (surely Saruman?...

The penultimate season 2 episode of The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power is now streaming, and despite featuring a massive battle and a couple of deaths (though we'd say Arondir is still kicking), it was a kiss between two characters that emerged as the biggest talking point.
Spoilers from this point on.
Though they never had a relationship in J.R.R. Tolkien's source material, Galadriel (Morfydd Clark) and Elrond (Robert Aramayo) locked lips in "Doomed To Die." Were these Elven comrades simply unable to contain their feelings any longer, giving in to their passionate desire for one another?
Not exactly.
The kiss was actually a strategic play on Elrond's part, as he was able to slip the captured Galadriel a cloak pin that she would later use to free herself from Adar. While some fans enjoyed this moment and are even "shipping" the characters, a lot of others...

The intense penultimate episode of The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power is now streaming, and "Doomed To Die" focused on the devastating Battle of Eregion, as Adar - with Galadriel as his prisoner - and his forces launched an attack on the Elven kingdom while Elrond and King Gil-glad mounted a desperate defence.
Spoilers follow.
With Durin unable to keep his word to Elrond by sending an army of Dwarves to bolster the Elven ranks, Adar ultimately emerges victorious, stabbing Arondir (possibly fatally) and seizing Galadriel's ring, Nenya, from Elrond before flinging the Elf to the ground.
Meanwhile, Celebrimbor realizes that Annatar has been Sauron all along, and he's been tricked into forging the nine rings for mortal men while his city crumbles around him.

This article from the Prime Video series The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power (2022) Season 2 Episode 6 contains significant spoilers.
The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power’s sixth episode marks the beginning of a spectacular three-episode run known as the Siege of Eregion, a monumental achievement. The risks are accurate, the action is thrilling, and the characters are begging to test the depths of their resiliency.
However, beyond the great siege, there are plenty of other things to discuss and analyze in The Rings of Power—for instance, the mutual understanding between Adar and Galadriel, Queen Miriel’s sea trial, and how Sauron keeps Celebrimbor in the dark about what’s happening in Eregion.

This article from the Prime Video series The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power (2022) Season 2 Episode 5 contains significant spoilers.
The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power’s fifth episode brings a potential old friend from Peter Jackson’s original The Lord of the Rings film franchise. Well, not the good kind, anyway. Princess Disi makes a discovery that may have implications for the Troll kingdom and the rest of Middle-earth.
Disi finds a disturbance deep in the bowels of Khazad-dûm. If you remember, Gandalf the Grey, while crossing the Bridge of Khazad-dûm, told a mysterious being, “You shall not pass!” and, wielding his mighty staff, won the battle. However, he was grabbed by the ankle and pulled over the edge. His last words before falling to the Fellowship were, “Run, you fools.”

The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power season 2, episode 4 is now streaming on Prime Video, and among the Ents (and Ent-wives), eerie Barrow-Wights and the debut of Tom Bombadil, the most significant talking point might be our biggest hint yet as to the true identity of The Stranger (Daniel Weyman).
Spoilers follow.
When Nori (Markella Kavanaugh) and Poppy (Megan Richards) get separated from their "Istar" friend after being whisked away by a sandstorm he caused (he still doesn't quite have a grasp of his powers), they encounter a group of larger Halflings who call themselves Stoors (Smeagol/Gollum is believed to have been a Stoorish Hobbit). After some initial hostilities, the Harfoots attempt to better explain who they were travelling with.
After describing the Stranger as "a giant" and "bigger than an Elf," Harfoot leader Gundabel sarcastically interrupts with, "oh, so he's a great big grand-elf?"

Prime Video (via Nerdist.com) has released the first clip from tomorrow's fourth episode of The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power, and it introduces a character fans of J.R.R. Tolkien's work have been waiting to see brought to life on screen for a very long time.
In the clip, we see The Stranger get himself into a spot of bother when he attempts to pull branch from a tree to fashion his wizard's staff. In a moment that recalls Merry and Pippin falling foul to Old Man Willow in the book, the Stranger is trapped and consumed by the tree until old Tom Bombadil (Rory Kinnear) comes to the rescue.
If you've read Tolkien's seminal trilogy, you should be very familiar with this mysterious character, who was introduced along with his wife Goldberry when Frodo and his company made their way through the Old Forest in The Fellowship of the Ring.

The first three episodes of The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power season 2 are now streaming on Prime Video, and ep 2, "Where the Stars are Strange," introduces a mysterious character who might just turn out to be the secondary antagonist of J.R.R. Tolkien's trilogy.
We know most of you will be well aware of who we're referring to, but just in case, spoilers follow.
After first catching up with Durin, Disa and the other Dwarves of Khazad-dûm, we find out who sent the masked marauders that have been tracking Nori, Poppy, and the Stranger through the deserts of Western Rhûn: A powerful sorcerer known only as the "Dark Wizard" (Game of Thrones alum Ciarán Hinds).
At first glance, there appears to be little doubt that this clearly wicked individual is Saruman, but there are other possibilities.

The Lord Of The Rings: The Rings Of Power Unveils Sauron's True Form In Season 2 Premiere - Spoilers
The first three episodes of The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power are now streaming on Prime Video, and the premiere wastes little time in taking us back to the Dawn of the Second Age to reveal the shocking origin of Sauron.
Major spoilers follow.
The first episode begins by introducing Sauron in his original form as a Maia spirit made flesh (played Slow Horses actor Jack Lowden) shortly after the defeat of his master, Morgoth.
Sauron gives a speech to a group of Orcs, attempting to convince them to embrace him as their new Dark Lord. However, Adar - now played by Sam Hazeldine - doesn't believe his would-be ruler has his "children's" best interests at heart, and instigates an uprising which results in Sauron's "death."
Though Sauron's spirit appears to leave his body, his blood flows into the earth, and the shape-shifting villain is eventually able to take the form of.

Three Rings for the Elven-kings under the sky, Seven for the Dwarf-lords in their halls of stone, Nine for Mortal Men doomed to die, and one spoiler warning for those who haven't watched the first three episodes of "The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power" season 2.
Don't sleep on one of the most sneakily important storylines in all of "The Rings of Power." Compared to the surprisingly melodramatic intrigue between Morfydd Clark's Galadriel and Charlie Vickers' shapeshifting Halbrand/Sauron/Annatar or the more conventional journey of the Harfoot Nori (Markella Kavenagh) and The Stranger (Daniel Weyman), viewers would be forgiven for overlooking the political subplot currently taking shape over on the island kingdom of Númenor. After all, these characters don't even appear on the scene until the third episode of the season 2 premiere, but showrunners J.D. Payne and Patrick McKay quickly make up for lost time. After...

Can you believe that we're officially one day away from the premiere of The Lord of the Rings: Rings of Power season 2 on Prime Video? Because I certainly can't! Leading up the highly-anticipated debut, we've been bringing you interviews and content with the actors of the show (see a list of some of them at the end of the post!) that we gathered from San Diego Comic-Con.
Now, it's time to bring you the final one with lovely actors and onscreen father and daughter duo Lloyd Owen (Elendil) and Ema Horvath (Eärien). Of course one of the biggest storylines for the two characters this season is the fact that they're both dealing with the loss of Isildur (check out our interview with Maxim Baldry here), Elendil's son and Eärien's brother. We know that he's still alive, but his family does not.

Season 2 of the most expensive TV series ever made is here, and it still feels like something of a loss leader.
Prime Video’s “The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power” has yet to develop characters we care about or put them in settings and situations — regardless of however handsome or awesome they may be — that make their fates more than rudimentarily moving.
The eight-episode season also fails to move the narrative needle much beyond where the smoking ruins of Season 1 left matters. Sauron (Charlie Vickers) is still the shape-shifting superbad. Elves, dwarfs, humans and orcs remain too blinkered by their own political in-fighting to counter him effectively. The goofy cosmic Stranger (Daniel Weyman), who we all know will become J.R.R. Tolkien’s most famous wizard, is still wandering around looking for his magic staff with some proto-Hobbit pals. More rings get made.

The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power returns for its second season later this month, and Prime Video has now released the first full clip and a new TV spot featuring the return of a character who appeared to be killed-off in the season 1 finale, and our first look at... Saruman?
Of course, any Tolkien fan would almost certainly have been aware that Isildur - the future King of Gondor who ultimately cuts the One Ring from Sauron's hand - wasn't really dead, but his father Elendil and the rest of his people believe he is.
In the clip, we see Isildur and a new character, Estrid, stop to help what appears to be a group of travellers in need before being ambushed by Wild Men. Things look bleak for Isildur, but elven archer Arondir comes to the rescue by unleashing a flurry of arrows into the bandits.

"Our armies cannot defeat him..." Wow! Prime Video has unveiled their second full trailer for Season 2 of The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power series - launching at the end of August in a few weeks. In Season 2, as we all know from the finale of Season 1: Sauron has returned. Cast out by Galadriel, without army or ally, the rising Dark Lord must now rely on his own cunning to rebuild his strength and oversee the creation of the Rings of Power, which will allow him to bind all the peoples of Middle-earth to his sinister will. Building on Season 1's epic scope and ambition, Season 2 plunges even its most beloved and vulnerable characters into a rising tide of darkness, challenging each to find their place in a world that is increasingly on the brink of calamity. Young couple Maya (Madelaine Petsch) and Ryan (Froy Gutierrez) are on their way to Portland, Oregon in order for Maya to attend a job interview. When they need to stop following a near-miss car accident, they end up in the small town of Venus, where the spotlight is clearly on them for being the odd ones out. When they need to stop following a near-miss car accident, they end up in the small town of Venus, where the spotlight is clearly on them for being the odd ones out. One of the most consistent themes in J.R.R. Tolkien’s works is corruption. In his world, evil is not natural. It does not create and it does not exist in a vacuum. Instead, it is something that perverts, distorting and obstructing good, like a shadow blocks the light. Tolkien often describes the presence of evil as a shadow passing through the world, and dark beings like orcs, trolls, and even Gollum himself, are imagined as twisted, deformed versions of pre-existing creatures.
This theme of corruption is especially prevalent throughout The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power, a story that is, at its heart about the ways that choices made the best of intentions can be twisted over time. The rings at the center of the show are meant to enhance the natural abilities of their wearers, protect them from decay, and ultimately help defeat the dark forces of Sauron.

Marvel’s had its fair share of critics over the years, with heavyweights like Martin Scorsese throwing shade and Jamie Lee Curtis hopping in and out of the critique club. Recently, Curtis issued a heartfelt apology for her Marvel comments, but Ryan Reynolds saw it as the perfect opportunity to stir the pot a bit.

Jamie Lee Curtis now says she’s sorry for her comments at San Diego Comic-Con shading Marvel. When asked by MTV what phase the Marvel Cinematic Universe was in, Curtis did not hesitate, quickly saying “Bad”.
In a post on X Thursday, Curtis wrote, “My comments about Marvel were stupid and I will do better. I’ve reached out to Kevin Feige and will no longer play in that mud slinging sandbox of competition we call the internet nor will I engage in the toilet paper promotion or game play that is designed for clicks not content or conversation.”
Curtis’ MCU comment followed earlier remarks in which she mocked Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, which she compared unfavorably to her film, the Oscar-winning Everything Everywhere All at Once.
She claimed Doctor Strange was missing “a dynamite dildo fight scene as well as a very erotic hotdog hand-mating dance.

Jamie Lee Curtis has already scored a few social media points by mocking Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, which she compared unfavorably to her film, the Oscar-winning Everything Everywhere All at Once.
She claimed Doctor Strange was missing “a dynamite dildo fight scene as well as a very erotic hotdog hand-mating dance.” In contrast, her film “has a deep Beating heart and Brilliant visual treats, Extraordinary performances and Fantastic Beastly Fight Scenes…… And it Cost Less than the Entire craft service budget on Doctor Strange and/or any other Marvel movie.”
Now, during San Diego Comic-Con, Curtis ratcheted up her attack, taking a shot at the current state of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Asked to name which phase the MCU is in, Curtis fired back.
“Bad.”

We recently learned that Tom Bombadil (Rory Kinnear) will be introduced during season 2 of The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power, and we now have confirmation that some far more nefarious creatures from the same never-adapted section of The Fellowship of the Ring will also make an appearance when the Prime Video series returns to our screens.
Empire Magazine has shared its Rings of Power season 2 covers along with a new still, and they feature Morfydd Clark as Galadriel, Charlie Vickers as Sauron (in both his previous Halbrand and new Annatar forms), and a first look at the terrifying Barrow-wights.
In J.R.R. Tolkien's book, the four hobbits encounter these undead horrors and almost come to a nasty end until Bombadil makes the save. We're not sure how they'll factor into the show, but the image suggests that it'll be Galadriel who runs into some eerie glowing fog on the Barrow Downs.

During the first season of Prime Video's The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power, we were introduced to a mysterious new villain known as Adar, and the character's backstory turned out to be one of the most intriguing aspects of the show.
"Adar" is the Sindarin word for father, and we'd soon learn that the Orcs saw their leader as more of a paternal figure. J.R.R. Tolkien's original history of Middle Earth claimed that Morgoth captured some Elves right after their "awakening" and used dark magic and other twisted means to create a new form of life that would be loyal only to him.
During a conversation with Galadriel, Adar admits that he was indeed one of the first Elves, or "Moriondor," taken by Melkor and transformed into one of the first Orcs.

Prime Video recently released the first trailer for the second season of The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power, giving us a glimpse of several new and returning characters who will be back to continue the battle to project Middle-earth from Sauron and his forces this August.

Staying in a woodland Airbnb while waiting for their car to get fixed, the pair are soon tormented by three ominously masked figures.
That, my friends, is absolutely all you need to know about The Strangers: Chapter 1. Or if you do venture out to see it (please don’t), this is likely all you’ll remember. What is set to be a horror threequel is already unable to answer why two...

The bar wasn’t very high to clear, but Lionsgate’s The Strangers: Chapter 1 did manage to break a box office record here in 2024, achieving the highest opening weekend at the domestic box office out of any horror movie released this year… so far. This despite largely negative reviews, once again proving that the horror genre is as review-proof as it comes.
The Strangers: Chapter 1 debuted with $11.83M at the domestic box office in 2,856 locations, just barely topping Blumhouse’s Night Swim to rip the crown off the top of its head.
Here’s the full lineup of domestic opening weekends for horror this year…
The Strangers: Chapter 1 – $11.8 million Night Swim – $11.7 million Abigail – $10.2 million Imaginary – $9.9 million The First Omen – $8.3 million Tarot – $6.5 million Immaculate – $5.3 million Lisa Frankenstein – $3.6 million
For further context and comparison, 2018’s The Strangers: Prey at Night opened to $10.4 million before making $31 million worldwide, a number Chapter 1 may eventually reach.

The first instalment in a new Strangers trilogy arrives in theaters this weekend, and the reviews have been pretty merciless so far, with one critic going so far as to call the home invasion slasher "one of the worst" horror films they've ever seen.
With 53 verdict counted, The Strangers: Chapter 1 currently sits at an abysmal 13% on Rotten Tomatoes.
We're not sure why anyone would have been expecting very much from this after what might honestly go down as the worst trailer of the year (see below), but it's fair to say the majority of critics were less than enthusiastic about what sounds like a beat-by-beat rehash of the original.
Check out some reactions below.
The Strangers Chapter 1 might be one of the worst horror remakes I’ve seen in a long time.
Boring, uninventive, and painfully sterilized. Really makes you wonder why bother remaking this movie if you’re just...

Sixteen years after Bryan Bertino's The Strangers shocked moviegoers, Lionsgate is reintroducing moviegoers to Dollface, Pin-Up Girl, and Scarecrow in The Strangers – Chapter 1, the first film in a new trilogy that brings the movie's masked murderers back to the big screen as they stalk a young couple (Madelaine Petsch and Froy Gutierrez) spending the night at a secluded cabin in the woods. Ahead of the film's world premiere in Los Angeles last week, Daily Dead had the chance to talk with lead actors Madelaine Petsch (who is also one of the film's executive producers) and Froy Gutierrez about what attracted them to playing their respective characters, developing a realistic chemistry in a short amount of time, and working with legendary director Renny Harlin.
