Transformers: Rise of the Beasts director Steven Caple Jr. isn’t afraid to pick up the phone and ask for guidance. He did it on Creed II when he asked Ryan Coogler and Sylvester Stallone for insight into how best to make a movie in the world of Adonis Creed (Michael B. Jordan) and Rocky Balboa. So, naturally, Caple took the same approach with the mastermind of Transformers live-action movies, Michael Bay.
During prep, Caple reached out to Bay who made the time for the young director despite having his hands full with Ambulance.
“[Michael Bay] was making Ambulance at the time, but he still picked up the phone and hopped onto Zoom,” Caple tells The Hollywood Reporter. “Monday through Friday, I was prepping for the film, and Saturday, Sunday, I was learning a lot from the visual effects supervisor and calls with Michael Bay. He gave hints and tips on how to accomplish certain things,...

As Mrs. Fableman recently said, "Movies are dreams that you never forget." There's more truth to that statement than not — even the most grounded, photo-realistic movie has that more-real-than-real quality to it, an intangibility that separates the "dream" from the "dreamer" in the audience.
Perhaps that's why visiting a museum full of memorabilia from cinema history feels so special. It takes those celluloid dreams and makes them feel that much more real, proving that those images and moments were indeed created and constructed by a team of talented artists.
The museum soundstage at Lightstorm Entertainment is just such a place, filled as it is with screen-used props and setpieces from filmmaker James Cameron's impressive cinema history. It helps that Cameron's background in engineering and various other facets of technology lends that much more realistic weight to these items: even up close, they look as if they're fully legitimate,...

"I had a little bit of hesitation when approached with the role of Micah," Bella Ortiz tells Popsugar about her casting in the new comedy-horror "American Carnage." The film sort of feels like a Latinx version of Jordan Peele's "Get Out," and Ortiz's character has one of the more surprising arcs. She had auditioned for another role but decided to go for the part of Micah despite her misgivings. She went for it, noting, "these kinds of movies, they don't get made often, especially independent features." And in the end, she was proud to be part of a majority-Latinx team with lots of camaraderie. Everyone who worked on the film was "committed to being a part of telling this story and highlighting the important issues that were happening."

Opening with a voiceover and montage of political speeches and news broadcasts on the topic of immigration, American Carnage immediately introduces us to Jp and his sister Lily. She’s just been accepted into college, but what should be a happy family celebration is interrupted as an Ice Swat team kicks in the door.
And here we run into a major issue with American Carnage’s plotting. The raid is one of many called for under an executive order signed by Governor Haper Finn. Immigration policy and enforcement is a federal matter, an executive order by a state governor would have no force. And even if it did, Ice is a federal agency, it doesn’t take orders from state governments.

Photo: ‘Night Teeth’ ‘Night Teeth’- New Take on Old Trope If one thing is clear, there will always be an audience for anything vampires. From the 1930s film ‘Dracula’ to one of the biggest franchises ‘The Twilight Saga’, vampires have taken a bite in the film industry and are not letting go. Netflix has gifted us with a vampire original of their own, ‘Night Teeth’. While still holding on to the old rules that vampires can’t be in sunlight and a dagger to the heart is fatal, this film offers a new take on this repeated subject. Jorge Lendeborg Jr. portrays a young college student, Benny, who moonlights as a chauffeur for the night. When he picks up his clientele, it’s immediately not what he expected his night to be like. Debby Ryan and Lucy Fry are Blaire and Zoe; they have a list of parties to...

The vampire genre is a lot like a vampire: It has lived for hundreds of years, and every time you think it’s about to die off it gets an infusion of new blood. Since the logistics of neck-biting and blood-sucking are no longer incendiary, a vampire movie, novel, or TV series that strikes a chord will tend to be infused with a tasty metaphor, one that reaches beyond the “erotic” obvious. In the mid-’70s, when the genre had come to seem musty, Stephen King’s “‘Salem’s Lot” (1975) and Anne Rice’s “Interview with the Vampire” (1976) revived it by plugging the gothic tropes of old horror movies into the eccentric nooks and crannies of the contemporary world. “The Lost Boys” converted vampirism into ’80s youth-movie hipsterism, “True Blood” tapped the progressive side of vampires, and the “Twilight” books and blockbuster movies made the vampire into an expression of alienated teen-romantic outsider-ness.

I'll never get tired of vampire movies and I'm very excited for Adam Randall's Night Teeth, coming to Netflix on October 20th! Here's a look at the first trailer:
"To earn some extra cash, quirky college student Benny moonlights as a chauffeur for one night. His task: drive two mysterious young women (Debby Ryan and Lucy Fry) around Los Angeles for a night of party hopping. Taken captive by his clients' charm, he soon learns that his passengers have their own plans for him – and an insatiable thirst for blood. As his night spins out of control, Benny is thrust into the middle of a clandestine war that pits rival tribes of vampires against the protectors of the human world, led by his brother (Raúl Castillo), who will stop at nothing to send them back into the shadows. With sunrise fast approaching, Benny is forced to choose between fear...

Caitlin Kinnunen and Bella Ortiz have signed on for the lead roles in the untitled nun dramedy pilot at The CW, Variety has learned.

Kinnunen will star as Sister Frances, described as the complacent angel on your shoulder. An impressionable, people-pleasing, young nun who believes in the power of thoughts and prayers and never breaks the rules, until she meets Sr. Maggie.
Ortiz will play Sister Maggie, described as the daredevil on your shoulder. A radical, millennial nun hell-bent on shaking up the power structures of the Catholic Church while being of service to her Brooklyn neighborhood. She can’t help but get into trouble,...

Though film fans may not acknowledge it, several other entertainment venues have had a tough time getting by in the past year. Just a few miles from the shuttered multiplex there were the empty stadiums and sports arenas. Now many more theatres are starting to open their doors once more (hey Big Apple and Tinsel Town), and the prospect of watching live baseball in a few weeks has many fans ecstatic. But there’s another sport just finishing up, allowing a few fans in, and adding another pandemic phrase for the “new normal”. That would be the basketball “bubble” that’s had a bumpy history. This new release is set in the before days, with a high schooler “baller” dreaming of the “big show”. But his parents are also counting on his “dream”. That and the pressure of representing his unique cultural community weigh heavily on the shoulders of the teen “hoop sensation” nicknamed Boogie.

Even though it’s moving at a slower pace than many would like, the vaccine rollout is starting to gain some traction and in turn, moviegoers are going to start setting foot in theaters — safely of course. That said, the specialty box office space might be hearing some more coin drop into its piggy bank in the forthcoming months. It’s been quite a journey, but we’ll get there slowly yet surely.

Eddie Huang’s Boogie is a basketball movie, but one of its best moments comes courtesy of tennis. Boogie, né Alfred Chin (Taylor Takahashi) comes back to his home in Flushing, Queens, to find his Taiwanese immigrant father (Perry Yung) rewatching, for apparently the gazillionth time, the 1989 French Open match between Taiwanese-American upstart Michael Chang and the heavily favored world No. 1, Ivan Lendl. Chang won that match, which happened the day after the Tiananmen Square massacre, and went on to win the tournament. When Dad repeats his fervent assertion that...

Boogie Review: Generic Sports Drama Bogs Down Compelling Human Interest Story in Eddie Huang’s Debut
As writer/director Eddie Huang’s fortune teller states, when a dragon and a dog come together, they create a snake. That’s what Alfred ‘Boogie’ Chin (Taylor Takahashi) is: temperamental like his father (Perry Yung), culturally respectful like his mother (Pamelyn Chee), and intuitive enough to realize he’s been trapped between them without a voice of his own. Both parents see him as the answer to their financial woes, but Mr. Chin plays the long game while Mrs. Chin seeks a quick payday. Neither negates Boogie’s own dream of playing in the NBA, but they do alter the journey by causing psychologically crippling strife. Because the more they grab hold of his present to pull him towards their potential futures, the more it all starts feeling pointlessly self-destructive to him.

Together, Vikings and Game of Thrones are two of the most popular television series ever made and it’s easy to understand why based on their premises alone. One tells the story of a clan of Nordic warriors, the other of the political intrigue brewing between a group of vindictive royal families.
Now, the best of both series may be coming together as Vikings actor Alexander Ludwig will be teaming up with Game of Thrones star Alfie Allen for a Netflix thriller called Night Teeth. And although little is yet known about the film, the inclusion of these two cast members alone is certainly promising.
In case you don’t know exactly who’s who when it comes to these shows – something which is completely understandable considering both Vikings and Game of Thrones feature tons of characters – here’s a little recap. As far as the History Channel series is concerned,...
