Darren R. Reid is a documentary filmmaker based in Coventry. His body of work covers a range of subjects, from the history of film and the silent era (Looking for Charlie) to Indigenous American issues (Keepers of the Forest). As a historian, Reid has a keen interest in exploring the relationship between the past and the present, and pays particular attention to social histories which explore various aspects of the human condition. Looking for Charlie saw Reid, in collaboration with his filmmaking partner, Brett Sanders, explore the role played by depression in shaping the early film industry. In Keepers of the Forest, he examined the history of Indigenous peoples in Brazil and their struggle to be recognized and respected in a world which often seems to ignore them.
