Saul Kak is an artist, an activist, a speaker of Zoque and a member of this thousand-year-old culture. Son of campesinos and the first in his family to attend college, Kak's paintings have exhibited across the Americas.
Kak has co-directed two documentary films with Charles Fairbanks. Their feature-length documentary The Modern Jungle (2016) won jury awards at Slamdance and Athens, and Best Documentary at Présence Autochtone: the First Nations Festival of Montreal. It premiered at Visions du Réel, screened at dozens of festivals, and was selected by multiple critics as one of the best Latino films of 2016.
