The Producers Guild of America (PGA) has set Saturday, January 28, 2017 for its 28th Annual Producers Guild Awards. (This year, the date was January 23.) The Producers Guild boasts more than 7,000 members. The 2017 Producers Guild Awards will cover the best in motion pictures, television and new media productions.
The motion picture members pick ten movies, which often reflect the Oscar nominees, depending on the number. Last year “Sicario,” “Ex Machina” and “Straight Outta Compton” didn’t make the Oscar cut of eight, which included non-pga-nominee “Room.” The PGA winner usually matches up with the Best Picture Oscar — although in 2012 the PGA tied with “12 Years a Slave” and “Gravity,” while last year the PGA muddied Oscar predictors’ picks with a win for “The Big Short.”
The awards will be presented at The Beverly Hilton hotel in Los Angeles, with Donald De Line (“The Italian Job”) and Amy Pascal (“Ghostbusters”) as Awards Chairs.
