Lois Smith’s award season campaign is heating up. The veteran performer is being talked about as a possible best supporting actress contender for her work in last summer’s acclaimed science-fiction drama “Marjorie Prime.” She’ll be hitting the trail armed with some key career retrospectives.
From Friday Oct. 20 through Oct. 22, the American Cinematheque will host a film series honoring the actress entitled “A Lois Smith Primer,” consisting of three double features that cover important stops in her film resume. Smith is a character actress who first shared the screen with James Dean in “East of Eden.” In “Marjorie Prime,” Smith plays an elderly woman who is comforted by an avatar of her dead husband. Smith also has a supporting turn this year in “Lady Bird.”
