And the Globe went to...Guillermo del Toro for The Shape of Water!
"Since childhood, I have been faithful to monsters," del Toro said as he accepted his win. "They allow and embody the possibility of failing… In many of these instances, these strange stories, these fables helped save my life. Ones with The Devil's Backbone, one with Pan's Labyrinth, and now with The Shape of Water."
The orchestra then began playing del Toro off. "Lower the music one second. It's taken 25 years, give me a minute," he said to applause, before going on to say, "I wouldn't be here without my cast, my crew, and I want to mention a few fantastic women sitting at this table...
