Female Directed Foreign Language Nominees

In 2010 Kathryn Bigelow made history becoming the first woman to win an Oscar for Best Director, putting an end to a wait of 82 years since the first Academy Awards and 34 years since Lina Wertmüller was the first woman ever nominated for this to happen. In 2021, Chloé Zhao and Emerald Fennell marked the first time there were two nominees in the category. Making a place for themselves in the Best Director category has been a hard task, but it is not so well known that women have had more success in the International Film Award, where dozens of talented directors have gotten nominations and victories way before Bigelow's historic victory came to happen. As of 2021, all continents except Oceania have had at least one female director in contention for the award. This time, we look at this category and ask, which Oscar nominee for International Film directed by a woman is your favorite? If you don't know them, which one would you like to watch the most?
