Oscar Best Picture Winners Made on the Cheap

At first glance, $25 million may seem like a lot money. Certainly, it is enough to keep the lights on at home, but it wouldn't cover the expenses of many major motion pictures. While Hollywood is generally secretive about its accounting, it is not a secret that it is common for major movies to have budgets that exceed $100 million. Since 2000, no fewer than 75 movies had budgets that even soared past $200 million (inflation-adjusted). Officially, Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides (2011) holds the record for the most expensive film ever with a production budget of $378.5 million or $412 million inflation-adjusted, while The Hobbit trilogy is the most expensive back-to-back film production with combined costs of $623 million or $675.6 million inflation-adjusted (after tax credits). When compared to the cost of some of Hollywood's bigger budget productions, these Oscar winners were made for pennies on the dollar, relatively speaking. Famous Movie Quotes as Haikus

This poll doesn't try to trivialize the poetry of Haikus, which obey a certain sets of rules without being locked in a cage of didacticism. Let's look at it as a tribute to one of my favorite forms of poetic expressions. The rules of Haikus are the following: It has three lines. It has five syllables in the first and third lines. It has seven syllables in the second line. Its lines don't rhyme. It includes a kireji, or cutting word. It includes a kigo, a seasonal reference. With that in mind, I humbly tried to 'hiaku-ize' some famous movie quotes following as many rules as I could... asking for your indulgence, my question is the following: Which of these famous quotes works the best as a haiku? After vote is done... A forum where the brains storm. Click. The sight is clear.

Best Nostalgic Film

"Yesterday... all my troubles seemed so far away... With the sad passing of Gloria Katz, writer of American Graffiti (1973) and the release of Alfonso Cuarón's much anticipated Roma (2018), an autobiographical film based on his childhood in Mexico City, let's have a look on all these times of happiness and/or melancholy where nostalgia was brought to the silver screen. The following fictionalized autobiographies, coming-of-age stories or lighthearted dramas may not all be based on the director's or a writer's early years... but they all have one thing in common: they convey a warm, sad, dreamy or bittersweet feeling of nostalgia either from the narrative or the way the characters (no gangsters included) reminisce about their sweet old memories. And the nostalgia can be so powerful that viewers might feel nostalgic about times or places they didn't even know. Which of these nostalgic films is your favorite? Film Adaptations - The Second Round

The question is “Which film is as great or good as the classic source they are adapted from?” Reviving a great idea for a poll by Nastasia that was started as Film Adaptations - The Second Round , but never completed and left inactive since 2016 and at only 23 selections. Her description is “This list includes great film adaptations that just weren't lucky enough to get the place in the first list,” (Live Poll: The movies that are as good as the original books?), “because there are so many good movies made from the books and the criteria were a bit harsh. Here we can lower our standards a bit - overall rating of the movie may go down to the number 7, but no less, please!” I’ll fill up the rest because I have a good library of unabridged classic hardcover books by Reader’s Digest, paperback books I bought on my own, and finally classic literature that I know about but don’t have a copy of. So I repeat, “The question is “Which film is as great or good as the classic source they are adapted from?”” To discuss this list, go to this library, and keep your voice down.
