Women under the age of 29 had the greatest affinity for the Anakin Skywalker origin story, rating it 6.9, while women aged 30 and older gave the film a half-point lower rating of 6.4.
Star Wars: Episode II fared slightly better, with women under 18 giving the film a 7.1 rating (the highest across all demographics.) From there, the ratings decreased by age group, with women 18 to 29 rating Star Wars: Episode II a 7, and women 30 and older bestowing the lowest ratings at 6.5.
By Episode III IMDb users warmed to the series, giving the film the highest rating of the new trilogy. Again, women under 18 gave the film the highest rating with a 7.9, and ratings decreased with each age group, with women 18 to 29 giving Episode III a 7.7, women 30 to 44 a rating of 7.4, and women 45 and older a 7.3.
Although Rogue One has only been out for a few weeks, women on IMDb have placed the first of the Star Wars standalone movies just above the middle of the pack. Women under 18 enjoyed Rogue One the most, giving it a 8.4 rating, while women 18 to 29 and above 45 gave the film a 8.2 and women between 30 and 44 rated it slightly lower with an 8.1. We'll have to wait a few more weeks to see if Rogue One holds steady in the No. 5 spot or climbs higher up the list.
Episode VII stands in the middle of the list with a solid 8.3 rating among female IMDb users. Women under 18 gave The Force Awakens the highest rating: 8.7. And if they were only female age group being considered, The Force Awakens would be the top-rated film in the franchise! Ratings stayed closer across the age groups with females 18 to 29 giving the film an 8.3 and women over 30 an 8.2.
Not surprisingly the original trilogy still holds the most love among IMDb users. With 10,000 more votes cast than The Force Awakens, Return of the Jedi takes the No. 3 position. Women under 18 gave Jedi an 8.5 while women 18 to 29 ranked the film 8.4. Women aged 30 to 44 gave it 8.3, and women 45 and older gave it the lowest at 7.9.
The second film in the original trilogy wins both the second spot on the list and some of the highest rankings across female IMDb users. Women under 18 rated Empire an 8.7. Women aged 18 to 29 gave the film an 8.8. Women aged 30 to 44 rated it 8.9, and women 45 and older gave Empire the lowest rating at 8.3.
With 13,000 more votes cast than The Empire Strikes Back,A New Hope wins the top spot among women. This is where the rankings finally diverge between men and women, with men ranking Empire their favorite of the franchise. Ratings were nearly similar across age groups for women, with women under 18 and aged 30 to 44 ranking A New Hope 8.5, while women aged 18 to 29 and over 45 gave the film an 8.4.
