Make way for Givenchy! Riccardo Tisci's first-ever stateside show has taken New York Fashion Week by storm, and it's no surprise really—not only is this one of week's major celeb attractions, but it also stands as the show offering the most seats to fans in the general public (we're talking 1,200). The show took place at Pier 26 in Hudson River Park at sundown, creating an equally contemplative and mesmerizing setting (we're talking models standing drain pipes, wielding olive branches and a finale number set to a live rendition of "Ave Maria"). And of course, stars flocked to the much-anticipated presentation, including Tisci's celeb-besties Kim Kardashian and Kanye West. We knew...

In 2013, I attended an introduction of Martin Scorsese’s Taxi Driver by writer/director Paul Schrader at The Royal Theatre in Toronto. In his opening remarks Schrader explained the process of writing a ‘lonely man’ film during a paranoid depressive state he was going through. Since then, I’ve realized that I have a fondness for ‘lonely man’ character films. Films like Nicolas Winding Refn’s Only God Forgives, David Fincher’s Fight Club, Spike Jonze’s Her, andthe Coen brothers’ A Serious Man fit neatly into this category. Each of these movies has their own version of a disenfranchised soul searching for an identity in the world. They resent society because of their isolation from it and they try various ways of connecting with to find a purpose in it. I am also highly aware of the lack of ‘lonely woman’ films or rather a good enough variety of...

The title of Parenthood’s penultimate episode — “We Made It Through the Night” — could just as easily describe the NBC drama’s viewing audience as accurately as it does the family at its center.
Even though many of us are now emotionally compromised from watching Thursday’s installment, we are indeed nearing the end of the Bravermans’ on-screen journey — and this week’s events, while tearjerking (duh), seem to be bringing the beloved series to a sweet conclusion.
After all, how could you not love the episode’s tender moments? Adam helping a student make the perfect soufflé? Sarah and Amber’s lovely duet?...

If you’d thought that maybe The Newsroom wouldn’t actually show us Will and Mac’s decades-in-the-making wedding, well, you were wrong.
But if it’s any comfort, you’re in very good company: Will, too, is spectacularly incorrect in this week’s episode. “Too big to jail,” Mr. McAvoy? The United States government begs to differ.
Elsewhere, the Jim and Maggie Show slowly cranks back into gear. Still pretty indifferent on that one, but it’s for different reasons than I had last season. (We’ll get into it in a minute.)

I think we can all agree that monstrosity means something different to kids than it does to adults. As one of our other writers pointed out earlier this month, “The best movie monsters, for the most part, are the ones that take a psychological giant leap from meek to menacing.” However when analyzing monsters in children’s movies we have to take a slightly different approach. The psychological analysis of movie monsters that we see above, the kinds of monsters that represent, “the constant reminder that all men have the potential to release the monster-made impulses from within,” come from a more fully realized understanding of the world than children have.
So the villains in children’s movies have to be less nuanced and more archetypal in their representations. Case and point: the Chernabog from Fantasia. A monster that appeals to primal fears that almost anyone can understand. Speaking personally,...

Kim Kardashian and Kanye West's wedding in Italy continues to radiate romance. E! News has exclusively obtained a photo from the couple's ceremony at the Forte di Belvedere in Florence, during which Andrea Bocelli serenaded the couple with several songs, including one of his biggest hits, "Con te partirò," which in English translates into "With you I will leave." Which in layman's terms can be further translated into: "I'll be with you forever." The superstar tenor also sang "Ave Maria" as a surprised Kim walked down the aisle, her last few steps before becoming Mrs. West. On Monday, Nick Lachey participated in a Reddit Ama online Q&A series. The new Big Morning Buzz Live host had fun serving up answers to fans hungry with questions about everything from 98 Degrees to his wife Vanessa. What’s his ideal day in Cincinnati, Ohio? Well first you must be asking yourself why Cincinnati but that’s why you have to read through to find out!
1. Nick is a Pie Man…
When asked if he preferred cake or pie, Nick told the user that he’s “more of a pie man. Pumpkin, sweet potato, apple, cherry being some of my favorites.”
2. Nick Wants To Be Reds Player Joey Votto for a Day…
“If you could switch places with someone else for 1 day who would it be and what would you do,” QueenPoser asked. Always an interesting question.
Nick told the user that he would switch places with Joey Votto of the Cincinnati Reds.

“I think we’re all glad that they changed the name to Fantasia,” states Steve Martin dryly during his introduction of Fantasia 2000 regarding the film’s predecessor, which was originally called The Concert Feature. (Fantasia may be a slightly cooler-sounding title, but it’s not much more inviting to the average audience member than The Concert Feature.) That single line of dialogue represents the key to the creative struggle at the heart of Fantasia 2000, a perfectly entertaining film with no identity of its own. Though Martin is funny in his few moments on screen (all of the celebrity introductions in this new film are mildly charming in their own way, though they vary in tone from Martin’s wacky fourth-wall-breaking humor to regal sincerity, as with Angela Lansbury’s climactic appearance), the fact that a recognizable comedian needs to be one of our ushers into a world of...

Working on yesterday's article about recent classical Christmas albums and looking back at my original Christmas album article got me thinking about old favorites I hadn't included in my 2005 article. Here they are. It says something about their popularity that they have all stayed available, in some cases for decades.
Anonymous 4 On Yoolis Night (Harmonia Mundi) This gorgeous collection contains Advent and Christmas music from 13th through 15th century English sources -- with one piece traceable all the way back to the 5th century. The ethereal beauty of these devotional antiphons, motets, carols, etc. is about as far from the usual hackneyed Christmas carols as one could get. Some of the Latin texts are familiar (Hodie Christus natus est, Ave maria, Videntes stellam), but this is largely fresh, relatively unexplored repertoire. Russian Patriarchate Choir/Anatoly Grindenko Russian Christmas (Opus 111) This is no cheesy Red Army Chorus holiday collection, but insteada...

Clone High Episode 10 ‘Litter Kills; Literally’
Written by Judah Miller & Murray Miller
Aired 1/19/2003 on MTV
When Clone High is at its very best, it’s able to pile trope on top of trope, until it has this Escher-like contraption of story and parody that feeds into every facet of the plot. It’s not quite the case with ‘Litter Kills’, but when its focused on JFK, it’s one of the most touching episodes of the series. In a nutshell, ‘Litter Kills’ is a very special episode about death, wrapped in a very special episode about environmental concerns, wrapped in a very special episode about how a community heals together; and when it’s running at full-tilt, it’s quite an impressive contraption.
Ponce de Leon’s death shouldn’t be something that affects the audience: we’re told he’s going to die before we even meet him, and...

Zach Galifianakis' character in "The Hangover Part III," Alan, eulogizes his father at beginning of the movie with a stirring rendition of "Ave Maria," and it got us thinking. In the unfortunate circumstance that Galifianakis had to use his angelic voice to send off either of his co-stars, Bradley Cooper or Ed Helms, we wondered what songs would the comedian sing in their memory... so we asked him.
Like Helms, we expected Galifianakis to take a less serious route. "The Office" star assumed he would say the theme from "Mr. Ed," but Galifianakis went with the Bruce Springsteen classic "Born in the U.S.A."
For Cooper, Galifanakis plans on using another of his musical talents, his piano playing — which he uses during his stand-up routines — for a rendition of the Beatles classic "While My Guitar Gently Weeps."
"The Hangover Part III" is in theaters now.

"The Hangover Part III" brings Todd Phillips' comedy trilogy to a conclusion this weekend (unless that Mr. Chow spin-off becomes a horrifying reality, of course). But if you're looking for a way to extend the party, you can find it with the soundtrack for the movie, which has just been revealed, and is now on sale from Amazon, among other vendors. A decidedly... eclectic line-up, the record includes radio favorites from the likes of Billy Joel, Harry Nilsson and The Coasters, more abrasive tracks from The Cramps and Danzig, up-to-the-minute stuff from A$AP Rocky, "Mmmbop" by Hanson and in-character covers of Johnny Cash and R. Kelly by Ken Jeong. It's like a party mix-tape put together by someone who hates your party, and we literally can't imagine who in the world would want to buy it. Still, it exists, and it's available for purchase if you do fancy it.

Blake Shelton, Adam Levine, Usher and Shakira get tons of good press for their work as coaches on The Voice — and rightfully so. Even their shtickiest moments (like Adam and Usher hiding behind their swivel chairs during Shakira’s impassioned defense of one of her artists) are fun, frothy distractions from the stresses of our workaday lives.
Once in a while, though, it might be nice to hear them drop their shiny, happy superlatives and offer some brutally honest feedback to the wannabe singing stars in their midst.

Deanna Durbin has died, aged 91.
The musical actress was one of the most popular and highest-paid young stars in the 1930s.
Her son Peter H. David told the Deanna Durbin Society newsletter that his mother had died several days ago, but did not give further details and thanked her fans for respecting her privacy.
By the end of the 1930s, Durbin had become one of the biggest box-office stars, appearing in several musical comedies and presented with a special Academy Award with Mickey Rooney, marking their "significant contribution in bringing to the screen the spirit and personification of youth".
She was said to have saved Universal from bankruptcy during the period, while she was also Sir Winston Churchill's favourite star. The Prime Minister would have access to her films before anyone else in the UK, and would allegedly celebrate military victories by watching her 1937 film One Hundred Men and a Girl.

Buenos Aires, March 20 (Ians/Efe) Spanish singer David Bisbal, who is in Buenos Aires to close out his "Acustico" world tour, said Tuesday that he hopes God gives him the chance to keep singing "for 40 more years".
"I have a dream of going to various countries that I haven't visited yet and that God gives me the chance to keep singing for 40 more years," said the artist at a press conference in the Argentine capital.
Bisbal, 33, was proclaimed the Argentine capital's "guest of honour" Tuesday, a recognition that he said was "very surprising" but much appreciated.
The performer of popular songs such as "Ave Maria", "Como olvidar" and "Besos de tu boca" said that he is already planning to begin work on a new album.

Just like we said yesterday (when we shared that parody poster) – this summer it all ends! We finally have the first trailer for The Hangover Part III, and it doesn’t look bad at all. Actually, it really looks like the epic finale to The Hangover trilogy. And Zach Galifianakis is singing Ave Maria. And there’s a giraffe as well. And… never mind, just check it out! So, the sequel to 2011′s The Hangover Part II, and the third and final film in The Hangover franchise comes from director Todd Phillips, who co-wrote the script for the movie together with Craig Mazin. This time, there’s...

Industrial legends Kmfdm have been dealing in their own brand of “ultra-heavy beat” for nearly three decades, across nearly twenty albums, and their 2011 release Wtf?! (check out our review here) proved that their axes are still plenty sharp, and that their post-millennial lineup – founder & frontman Sascha “Kapt'n K” Konietzko, vocalist Lucia Cifarelli, guitarists Jules Hogdson & Steve White and drummer Andy Selway – remains their most durable and powerful incarnation in my book. After the misstep of Blitz, which felt like a half-hearted attempt to recapture the band's late-'80s club vibe, the team wisely returned to the workshop to craft another metal monolith, and that form is still firm for their latest full-length studio album... in fact, it's actually moved into an even darker range, with a rebellious fervor matching that of angst-ridden works like Wwiii. All the band's lyrical signatures are still in play in Kunst, including their well-known political...

The first-ever manufacturer of light bulbs in Portugal, Manoel de Oliveira’s father died in 1932, nine years after Raul Brandão wrote a play called Gebo and the Shadow. In the year 2012 Oliveira turned the play into a film, making a grimy, dim oil lamp its legitimate character: elderly accountant Gebo burns the midnight oil in it as he plods away at his books. In an early scene, meanwhile, his wife lights the lanterns outside their house with a match. No one seems yet to have heard of electricity; the time setting is unclear; presumably, it’s the turn of the century.
Presumably. Oliveira’s Benilde, or The Virgin Mother (1975) opens with a title-card of this word to gradually lure us into a province of utter chronological disorder. This very same word has ever since been unchallenged as the most accurate description of the bizarre, atemporal effect that grows stronger in each subsequent Oliveira film.

Cream-colored ponies and crisp apple strudels may not have made the cut, but Oprah has just released her annual list of “Favorite Things” on her website, and, as expected, it’s a plethora of stuff that you simultaneously didn’t know existed and now desperately want.
Word to the wise: stock up now on the 48 products featured – if history is any indication, they’re about to be out of stock. The items are from the December issue of O, The Oprah Magazine, but will presumably be the same as the gifts featured in the two-hour primetime special, Oprah’s Favorite Things,...

When Glee's pilot episode aired lo those many years ago, a stunned nation of homogays sat speechless in front of their televisions. I'm trying to remember what we expected back then, back before we saw the first episode. High School Musical 7, probably. Singing and dancing at the most awesome/ridiculous times. And yeah, it was that. But what was stunning was how the melodies were woven through with a harmony of hopefulness and this idea that it's Ok to dream big dreams, that it's Ok to care, and that the most important thing you will ever do in life is create for yourself a family of people who will celebrate the weird and wonderful things that make you you. Nobody understands that sentiment like the queer community. So even before Kurt and Blaine and Klaine and Santana and Brittany and Brittana and Dave Karofsky and Unique, Glee resonated with us.

With 24 acts going into the semifinals, it's no surprise that America's Got Talent is splitting the performances into two episodes. Regardless, we got to kick-off the beginning of the end tonight, so let's get straight into who performed and will be facing eliminations tomorrow. The show started off strong with an impeccable performance of "Ave Maria" by Andrew De Leon, which earned him a standing ovation from the crowd, but still got some flack from the judges. Howie Mandel brought up the fact that De Leon doesn't have any formal training and Sharon Osbourne said he needs to lose the gothic look if he wants to be taken seriously. Geez! 'What does love feel like? Very painful'
Chloë Sevigny, 37, was raised in Connecticut. At 18 she moved to New York and worked on teen magazine Sassy, which led to modelling work and an appearance in a Lemonheads video. Her first acting role was in 1995's Kids and in 2000 she was Oscar-nominated for her role in Boys Don't Cry. Her other films include American Psycho, Woody Allen's Melinda And Melinda, and Mr Nice. She won a Golden Globe for her role in the TV series Big Love and is the lead in Sky Atlantic's drama Hit And Miss, which starts on 22 May.
When were you happiest?
Last time I was on the dance floor – in Manchester a few weeks ago.
What is your greatest fear?
Something happening to my mother.
What is your earliest memory?
Being in the front yard, playing with violets, and my mother saying they were her mother's favourite flower.

Community delved further into darker territory this week following the ending of last week’s episode in which we learn Star-Burns had perished when a meth lab in the trunk of his car exploded. His death has kick-started a chain of events that could see the end of the study group. The ‘Chang Rises’ arc also hits full stride as Dean Pelton reluctantly enlists the protection of ‘The Changlorious Bastards’.
Alex Osbourne may be dead and gone but that doesn’t stop him popping up a few times in this weeks episode for some more laughs, namely his video will in which he asks Abed to make a tribute video for him and leaves him with footage of himself acting a fool in front of a green screen. Later in the study group, Annie points out how awkward and quiet it is because of Star-Burns death,...

It’s the live semi-final eliminations. But first, you’ll have to sit through a lot of random performances!
Tonight there are performances by Cyndi Lauper (love) and Kid Cudi (also fab) but really, can we not just cut through all this clutter and get to it. Some former contestants come on and talk about how they made albums that not that many people bought.

It really feels like we’ve got an elite eight, and now we go down to the final four tonight. We saw a lot of emotions last night from everybody! Emotions on a lot of levels: everything from Erin Willett, who really broke down after her song, to Cee Lo, who was very emotional during Chris Mann’s opera performance and certainly during Juliet Simms’. The remaining eight contestants on "The Voice" (Mondays at 8 p.m. Et and Tuesdays at 9 p.m. Et on NBC) took the stage during the semifinals and overall, it was an impressive showing.
It's shocking that we're only a week away from the Season 2 finale, when a winner will be crowned. But for now, Christina Aguilera is the one wearing the tiara. This ensemble really looks like she stole it from a "Toddlers and Tiaras" contestant and don't worry -- you'll get a full look at it (twice).
In order to determine who will swipe that headpiece out of Christina's weave make it to the final round, the ever relevant host Carson Daly reminds us that America and the coadges have equal say. The coadges have 100 votes to split among their team members as they sit fit and then America's votes -- via phone, social network, iTunes, etc. -- factor into the other half.

If you're one of the millions of people who thinks William Levy is sexy with his shirt off, we've got some exciting news for you: the Cuban telenovela hunk is even hotter with his clothes on.
Levy, who has been known to rip his shirt open and to get handsy with his dance partner Cheryl Burke on the dance floor, did a Viennese waltz last night on "Dancing With the Stars," to the song "Ave Maria," (performed live by Opera singer and "America's Got Talent" finalist Jackie Evancho).
And, even though Levy was fully-clothed throughout the entire dance, the Cuban actor's performance somehow managed to be one of his sexiest performances ever! It wasn't as raunchy as his past performances, but it was much more passionate and romantic.
The judges loved the traditional and somber dance. Judge Carrie Ann Inaba said, "You bring the romance to life, which is beautiful.

Carson Daly kicked off last night's The Voice by basically asking Cee-Lo, "Isn't it crazy how unbeatable your team is? How do you feel about killing all the other teams and seeing if America notices? Would that just tickle you, you sassy man? Spank your own ass! You're the winner!" Duly noted, Carson, but the elite duo of Jamar Rogers and Juliet Simms had six other singers to spar with last night. Did they conquer just as much as Carson foreshadowed? Or did Christina Aguilera -- dressed like a magician's assistant who picks up extra tips as a JonBenet Ramsey impersonator -- and her team take over? I rank 'em worst to first below.

Christina Aguilera and her fans in the crowd are becoming more and more difficult to deal with on The Voice, but it's worth suffering through to get to fantastic performances like we saw on this week's Semifinals.
Seriously, I'm not sure which is worse, the fans that repeatedly scream out that they love Christina, or the pop queen responding to them every single time. It was more than that, though, this week. Christina was taking every opportunity to show her pipes, get up on stage to show her booty and make every contestant's performance about her. At first it was a bit entertaining, but now it's just getting annoying.
There were some great performances, too, making it even more of a shame Christina was too busy to notice them. Let's take a look at all that went down on The Voice's Semifinals...

For Classical week on "Dancing With the Stars," William Levy and partner Cheryl Burke did a Viennese waltz to "Ave Maria" - with some help from "America's Got Talent" finalist Jackie Evancho. We just love that little pint-sized powerhouse.
Likewise, the judges loved William's waltz. Bruno says, "You have captured the purity and the ethereal quality of the song" and Carrie Ann adds, "True content, true dancing ... you find the story in the music and it's always the story of romance." Len, who is a stickler about the Viennese waltz in particular, gave high praise (for him) when he said, "I wasn't exactly transported to Vienna, but it was close."
What did you think, "DWTS" fans? We found it infinitely more exciting than Katherine Jenkins' rumba. There was just more of a spark and intensity behind this one, even though they are both slower dances. Will William Levy be getting your votes tonight?...

It’s not easy being a contestant on The Voice. Not only must these fledgling artists show extreme patience at getting upstaged in the midst of their critiques by chants of “I love you Adam!”/”I love you Xtina!” (possibly delivered by Adam’s and Xtina’s assistants, disguised in trench coats and sunglasses) but they also have to endure backstage interviews in the Sprint lounge conducted by a babbling ponytail attached to a stem-cell smoothie. (Sometimes that entity is referred to as a “Christina Milian.”)

Let the record show, Werner Herzog is the best when it comes to choosing music--after all, he said so last night. Talking to a completely full room at the Brooklyn Academy of Music's Rose Theater after a screening of "The White Diamond," Herzog mulled over opera and working with musicians, and briefly entertained a Nicholas Cage question over an hour-and-a-half dialogue with moderator Paul Holdengräber, director of Live of the New York Public Library.
"We are doing this as a pair of co-conspirators," said Holdengräber as the duo introduced the film. The choice of screening "The White Diamond" had to do entirely with the film's soundtrack, written and recorded before the film had been shot save for the ending track.
"It's very hard to speak, to verbalize about music," said Herzog. "Though I do stage opera once in a while, I do it quite well." The statement elicited laughter from the crowd,...

As far as Rick Santorum is concerned, mainstream Protestantism "is gone from the world of Christianity." That's what he told students at Florida's Ave Maria University, founded by Domino's Pizza mogul Tom Monaghan, during a 2008 lecture.
The clip was unearthed by People for the American Way and played on Saturday's "Up With Chris Hayes" on MSNBC.
"We all know that this country was founded on a Judeo-Christian ethic. But the Judeo-Christian ethic -- sure the Catholics had some influence -- but this was a Protestant country," said Santorum. "And the Protestant ethic, mainstream, mainline Protestantism, and of course we look at the shape of mainline Protestantism in this country and it is a shambles, it is gone from the world of Christianity as I see it."

Hank's back wasn't the only pain hitting the Hamptons on Royal Pains this week. Egotistical doctors, thieves, drug-induced dreams and even some old faces made an appearance in "My Back to the Future."
I must start by saying that there was nothing funnier than watching Hank struggle with his back pain. The exaggerations, which I am sure amounted to great pain if it was real, could not have been played any better by Mark Feuerstein.
Speaking of which, this was his directorial debut, and it was certainly a great first effort. I do wonder why this episode was chosen for him to direct, though.
In the meantime, the ongoing storyline involving Jack and his Lupus continues to be an important feature in each episode, and the relationship between Hank and Jack has grown significantly into a friendship. I really like seeing these two together on screen, not just as great actors,...

De La Huerta Stars In Music Video
Actress Paz De La Huerta has shown her support for up-and-coming singer Jihae by shooting a music video with the rising star.
The Boardwalk Empire actress dances provocatively and crawls on all fours in a dramatic black gown in the promo for Jihae's cover of Kraftwerk track The Model.
But De la Huerta was adamant her pal return the favour - she convinced Jihae to record a classical arrangement for an upcoming film project.
Jihae tells Spinner, "I found it mind boggling that kids today when asked what they want to be when they grow up, 99 per cent of the time the answer is, 'I want to be famous' or 'I want to be on TV'. If you ask, 'Famous for what?' you'll most likely get a shoulder shrug.
"It's a sad world when the Kardashians and other reality stars are the role models for our next generation. This is what inspired me to cover the song and make the video.
