Joe McDoakes has a yen to get involved in politics. So, when he's approached by the local political machine, he doesn't even bother asking what office he's campaigning for and assumes it's for Congress. Unfortunately, he's only running for Dog Catcher...and despite this, he traverses the country campaigning like crazy.
For the most part, the Joe McDoakes comedies from Warner Brothers hold up pretty well today. Despite there being a strong sameness about the, the writing, direction and acting all worked together to make cute little films. Unfortunately, "So You Want to Be in Politics" isn't one of the better pictures. It's watchable but only fair compared to the other shorts...and the ending seemed pretty lame. A few of the jokes fall flat as well...such as his speech to the North which is inexplicably all about Eskimos and penguins!
