A daffy woman constantly strives to become a star along with her bandleader husband and gets herself in the strangest situations.
There were plans to spin off the Mertzes on to their show after I Love Lucy (1951)s The Lucy-Desi Comedy Hour (1957)s show ended. While William Frawley was all for it, Vivian Vance was totally against it due to her hatred of Frawley. Because of this, their spats even became more furious, at each other.

While Lucy is somewhat consistent in her lack of talent, Ethel at various times is shown to be excellent on the piano, as well as, having a very basic playing ability. In one episode, she plays 'Sweet Sue' and other songs while the group sings, but in various episodes where Lucy is trying to form a band, she is hopelessly inept on the instrument.
In some of the episodes, the guest-star's name(s) are voiced over, by conductor, Wilbur Hatch, in the Opening Credits or Closing Credits.
